Squacco Heron (Ardeola ralloides) Afrikaans: Ralreier There’s only a few rare birds to chase besides the Rare Squacco and the Goliath Heron. So a quick pop into the Poo Farm at Strandfontein, but neither of these two SA Rare Birds could be found. Ok, so one last drive around, and the next moment, the Squacco is flying above the vehicle. Happy to snap a few images before heading back to base.

The opportunity was too good to pass up, so we altered our plans and shortened our return journey to Cape Town. Instead, we opted to stay near the Gouritz River mo...

This milestone was a powerful reminder of the urgent conservation efforts needed to protect these magnificent birds. As part of the Mouse-Free Marion Project, managed by BirdLife South Africa, this achievement unders...

We are incredibly excited that we captured the first and second Tristan Albatross(Diomedea dabbenena). We were fortunate to have MBE Peter Harrison on the spot to confirm this Critically Endangered Albatross. This was on the Flock to Marion 2022 aboard the MSC Orchestra. This must rank as one of the personal highlights of my birding career.

Flock to Marion Prions(Whalebirds) Prions are the LBJs of the seabird world; they mainly feed on planktonic crustaceans, which they filter from the water with fine hairs(Lammellae) on the sides of their bills. Hence their alternative name, "whalebirds." We had the good fortune to capture five of the species listed on Faansie Peacock's Firefinch app, which was launched for this First Ever Cruise...

Very nice video!
Thanks, trust you watched the one with Peter Harrison explaining how they separate the two species
A super-entertaining video, thanks very much. I just started a frog pond here in New Jersey, USA and have six froglets, so cute!
hes adorable!!!!
OK, you could not get a video clip of the Babakoto singing? I'm going to the Northeast reserves in Madagascar just to listen and see them.
The video has two clips of the Indri Indri singing. Can confirm it was a serious challenge to get these clips. The dense forest, misty lenses and at times crowds all jostling for a great view proved to be a real challenge, good luck
AWWWWQ!!!
no
Amazing frog! Well done!
he looks mildly disappointed that he was picked up
Can't expect him to be happy about it
No he was very happy when we returned him back to his warm sandy home
Thanks to all the photographers for these remarkable images, they have made this documentation of all the species seen on the Flock to Marion possible
Awesome & so lovely capture
This was the high point of the whole cruise, these are the words of MBE Peter Harrison who confirmed the first Tristan Albatross that was called by one of the top birding guides of the #flocktomarion Adam Riley. This footage was taken one day later when we captured the second Critically Endangered Tristan Albatross. We only pieced this together a few months ago while collecting new footage for some Wandering Albatross. What a remarkable find and how exciting it was so thank you for your kind words.
Wonderful footage. Can’t wait
We are also excited to revisit this Pelagic wonderland, hopefully we can enjoy this experience with a little less pressure and also tick off the remaining 14 species we missed out on. This adventure will remain with you for a lifetime especially when you get to see the iconic Wandering Albatross in flight and at close range. Add to this the incredible likeminded people you will meet, the informative lectures, cetaceans, this list goes on and on, thank you and keep watching this channel for new updated videos on the Pelagic Seabirds on the #flocktomarion2022.
I have owls in my backyard and I love them …

We had a 9 hour twitch for the double, got the White-rumped but dipped on the Buff-breasted Sandpiper, you just can't win them all.

What a tough bird to get locked onto from a 14 story cruise liner
Nice and beautiful video. Thanks for sharing & Big Like 3
Such a unique moment and memories that will last a life time, in the words of Peter Harrison this was indeed the highlight of the whole cruise. We had the good fortune of being right there at the right place at and at the right time, how blessed we feel to have enjoyed this remarkable moment and being able to capture the raw emotions of that experience is something tremendous, we hope you can enjoy this moment with us…..
Love this video of the Sooty Albatross
❤❤🧡💛💜💙💚
Unbelievable scenes!! Never had trawlers on my pelagics out here.
Thanks for your feedback, our second Pelagic we did find a Trawler but it wasn’t working and hence not too many birds around. But our first was incredible so it makes a huge difference but it’s difficult to focus as so much is going on. If we go again it’s alway the Trawlers that make the difference between wow and fantastic
Nice and beautiful video. Thanks for sharing.
