Toyota 1JZ in a Nissan Silvia (including DYNO runs)
I posted a video a while back about this car ( ua-cam.com/video/P8grX7_nKBo/v-deo.html ). This was the first Silvia I ever owned but not my first S-Chassis and I bought it in 2008. I drove it for several years and then sold it. It was passed around to a few owners and then my good friend Brody bought it and started a restoration on the car. He offered it up for sale and I knew I had to buy it. This is not a drift car for me. It definitely drifts but this is my nice car.
After driving this car with the SR20 for a while making 278hp, the engine failed on me. I couldn't resist the urge to put a 1JZ in the engine bay. I wish I had documented a bit more before I had the SR20 fail but this wasn't really a project car. At this point it has become a test subject for modifying a 1JZ.
With this car I will be doing some upgrades in future vidoes and documenting the dyno results.

Don`t what year model you have, since you have plastic tanks. I think you have a F-250? I have an 86 F-250 6.9 Diesel. I installed a 38 gallon Spectra F26E rear tank. new senders etc... I bought one of the Chicomm FSV`s flooding the market for $50. Installed it all was fine for the first year. Then it got stuck between tanks. Pulling from the rear, and returning to the front tank, till one day it overflowed. I finally deep 6 the FSV, ran the rear thank to the Engine and return back to it. The front Tank I ran a hose to the rear Fill Tube, drilled a hole in it on the side towards the top. Used a 3/8" threaded Barb fitting, opened up the hole just large enough so the threads grabbed the edge, then JB Welded it. Connected the 3/8" hose to it. Installed a small Facet electric pump to transfer the front thank to the rear. The wire from the front sender is Dark Blue/yellow The wire from the rear tank is Yellow/ Blue yellow/white wire goes to the Dash Switch, and from there YW wire goes to the Big instrument Cluster plug for the Gauge. The other 2 wires will be a Red and a Brown. Pos/Neg Color code of the wires could be different between years, and makes of trucks. They all work the same. They have been a troublesome POS ever since Ford introduced them, and maybe other makes also. With the 38 Gallon tank I can get 600 miles max out of it, usually fill 4 - 500 miles. Depends on your MPG. Removing the bed off the truck for me makes it easier.

Wrap all the pipes with thermal wrap to keep the heat in. Cover that bucket lightly too. You are losing heat through that. Put as many heat exchangers above the fire as physically possible and find a way to weld heat sinks onto each of them to absorb more heat. Hope this helps!

I knew a guy who did this and the local council came to his place and put a monitor on his chimney and then closed him down as they said it was poisonous gasses, like the stuff coming out of power stations, cars, buses, and trucks isn't ! One of the best things you can do is route the chimney the full length of the building, as they do in Canada. That spreads the heat, and if it is long enough, almost no heat is wasted by being vented outside. Some Canadian chimneys split into two and run both sides of the building. keep going that's OK for a Mk 1, Mk 2 will be much better,

@BrandonWicknick You made a what's called in industry a "Shell and Tube Heat exchanger" with the barrel, all be it a crude one. The Plate heat exchanger is doing little to nothing for you in the barrel. I'd get a "stainless steel heat exchanger coil", like the one they use in home brew beer kits and heat that in/on the furnace. Run water through that to the hot side of the plate heat exchanger and the cold side of the plate heat exchanger being your floor fluids.

  • @thepostman41
