    I miss that he was never able run DEI as an owner on the box because DEI would surely be a top tier team today. But he was the dirtiest / got away with it driver in the history of NASCAR. Had he not wrecked or damaged others early and if Tim Richmond, Davey Allison, Allen Kulwicki lived, he might have won 2 or 3 championships.

      NASCAR has went completely into show business now. It’s not racing. It’s all about selling products now & putting people in the seats racing comes last. Last year they just about got caught up in it when it became too obvious. From around early 60’s forward it slowly has became a show business company. Now it’s like Professional Wrestling & Vince McMahon type. Independent contractors that must tow the official narrative of NASCAR or they leave. Just watch them 2 teams didn’t sign new contract loose legally. I hate to break your heart but even you will see this in the future. A team not supposed to win will get NASCAR’s inspectors or black flag. Sad but true. Them 2 teams will sign that contract & tow the official line or leave. Watch & see if they are allowed back in & it doesn’t become like classified non public release clause. Delete this if you want to but time will prove myself totally correct. I know NASCAR very well. I have no dealings with them now.

    I think if Dale had his belts tight he may have had a fighting chance of surviving. Watch any video of Dale racking & you will see he sits closer to the door than any other driver of the time. Any fan knows he was known to leave the belts a little lose. That little bit it may have been lose translates to a lot of pressure on impact, potentially causing a belt failure.

    • @jamescook6564
      @jamescook6564 День тому

      If he wore the HANS device he would still be alive. It existed when he raced but was old school and did not like it. That is the fact of the matter regardless if you like it or not.

    • @thomasgreen8894
      @thomasgreen8894 День тому

      @jamescook6564 That is not fact, it's opinion. Even if Dale had that device on i personally, I think with running the belts a little lose for comfort when the wall impact happened & the belt failed that device would have done .ooooshit to save him because you're head/face will still hit the steering wheel. I am no expert, BUT when a restraint belt snaps that device won't help by any means unless the belts are TIGHT pre crash.

    • @jamescook6564
      @jamescook6564 День тому

      @thomasgreen8894 It is fact. He died of a bascular skull fracture. Which means his brain broke off the top of the spinal column. The HANS device most certainly would have saved his life. Notice there have been no more fatalities like this since his death and the HANS device became mandatory and there wee 4 within 2 years of him dying.

    • @thomasgreen8894
      @thomasgreen8894 День тому

      @jamescook6564 so if your safety belt breaks & your upper body is prone to go flying forward, I do not see how a head & neck restraint will save your head from getting smashed into the steering wheel. I am not a safety consultant, BUT how does a head/neck restraint keep your face from eating the steering wheel when a belt failure happens? If Dale had his belts tight, that possibly would have been enough to save him. Again watch any video of Dale running hard at any race & watch how much closer he sat to the door than any other driver. It's easy to say 'X 100% would have saved him' because we don't know.

    • @jamescook6564
      @jamescook6564 День тому

      Dale Earnhardt would intimidate Mark Martin when he was driving behind him on the race track. The media gave Dale Earnhardt the moniker, "The Intimidator". Not all nor most racers were intimidated by him especially Darrell Waltrip and Rusty Wallace and other top racers at the time. Virtually, it was just Martin and the media noticed that. In my opinion Dale Earnhardt was the best at bumping, pushing, or just plain taking someone out of the way. NASCAR was more lenient with him than any other driver in history. Richard Petty helped build NASCAR with the proverbial white hat on. Dale Earnhardt helped NASCAR with the proverbial black hat on.

I watched that race from the Reno Hilton and was shouting at the TV, "stop blocking, you're going to wreck". As soon as the checkers flew, I grabbed my bag and headed to the airport. Didn't find out about the tragic loss until about 3:00AM. Sterling was just racing for position.

      @jk-kr8jt I remember when he died, and a lot of people who weren't Nascar fans were in shock. They talked about it at school and work, and I remember the homegrown memorials put up around local tracks. This was the beginning to the end of what was going to become a wild year of 2001 and the end to many other great things we once loved. Nascar races used to be so alive, and the fans were more loyal than any other sport. I'm a collector of a lot of things, and the 70s had so much creativity but also the end of "Made In America" and I'm also glad to have grown up with our greatest generation of a lot of things.

Wins back in Pettys priime came unchallenged most of the time. It's the same thing with JJ as well. I'm not saying these guys are not statistically good on paper, but if you were to have a room full of nascar fans who their top 3 drivers are of all time, Petty and Johnson would not be the first choice. I find it hard to consider the Talladega gang or even the Labonte brothers in my top, even though they had notable careers. If JJ was one of the greatest drivers, he would go out and finish much better than he is currently.
