Gratitude is the title track from Patrick's sixth album, out now.
Throughout his chart-topping recording career straddling the fences of
contemporary jazz, fusion, prog-rock and smooth jazz as a composer, pianist,
organist and keyboardist, Patrick Bradley has stood stalwart as a man of Christian faith. When one is blessed to be in cruise mode for long stretches of life, thankfulness can sometimes innocently be taken for granted. But when Patrick’s health took an out-of-nowhere nose dive, the downward spiral rendered him suddenly turning to God with a fervor literally off the charts - no doctor could pinpoint the source of certain organs failing or his freefalling weight loss. To Patrick’s shock and horror, it did not feel as if God was answering his prayers as swiftly as he expected. It was at this time that Patrick realized that maybe he had not been as attentive in his walk with God as he needed to be. And following a highly emotional breakdown leading toward elevated obedience, Patrick began composing the bulk of his sixth and latest 10-song album, humbly titled Gratitude (Patricks Song Factory Records).
“Strangely,” Patrick confesses, “sickness deepened my relationship with God.”
Of the richly inspired songs on Gratitude, the escalating mid-tempo groove of
awakening, “Abide in Me,” set the pace for them all. “I’d had a massive headache for a month,” Patrick shares. “I was praying - bawling - ‘Jesus, why am I still like this?’ For the first time in my life, I wasn’t getting prayers answered. That thought process created this great need for me to grow deeper with The Lord - to be more real, to repent more and, ultimately, acknowledge Him as The Sovereign God. John 15:7 reads, ‘If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.’ In other words, stay close to God - because you can’t do anything without him. This was a profoundly deep ‘come to Jesus’ meeting for me. And that’s where the songs for this album came into play.
Patrick collaborated on the album with returning Grammy-nominated co-pilot
Darren Rahn who produced the project and co-wrote seven of its songs. “I came in with 20 song ideas of mine to start,” Patrick shares. “He always appreciates that we have so much to work with from the start. The skeletons were pretty much there. Then we identify the ones we’re going to work on. I’ll write some parts; he’ll write some parts. Then it’s a collaboration process.”
The stellar musicians of Gratitude include guitarists Allen Hinds, Dave Beegle
and Randy Jacobs, Darren Rahn on sax, bassist Mel Brown, drummer Tarell
Martin, and percussionist Christian Teele.
