New Years Eve Fireworks - Melbourne Australia, 2020
Midnight fireworks along the Yarra River for Melbourne's New Years celebrations for 2020. Similar to previous years there were a number of launch sites, including 22 city skyscraper rooftops either side of the river. a total of 14 tonnes of fireworks were used at a cost of $AU 3.4 million.
These shots were taken from Queens Bridge which was closed to traffic. Normally traffic and trams cross here between William Street and Queensbridge Street. In the distance the former Sandridge Rail Bridge can be seen which carried the former St Kilda and Port Melbourne rail lines between 1888 and 1987 when the lines were converted to tramways and fed into Clarendon Street leaving the river crossing abandoned until conversion into a pedestrian bridge in 2006.

RIP George Negus
Nihan ❤😂🎉
At least Jeff Kennett got things done even though I didn’t agree with his privatising assets
Someone at Nine obviously had an interest in privately-owned-but-publicly-funded Transurban.
RIP George Negus (1942-2024). He will be missed.
Is that Billy Murray?
34 years. From 1999? So free road/tunnels from 2033 (9 years from now). Noted and looking forward to it. Any government that keeps tolls on it, will be reversing/stifling progress and will show only contempt for its constituents.
The Bolte/Westgate/Domain-Burnley Tunnel setup is an absolute dogs breakfast
39years ago Jennifer keyte still reading news absolute perfection
If you want the “Welcome aboard V/Line!” jingle it’s at 0:43
That's not even Michael Nesmith's real hat.
6:24 “This is herald sun television, the time is nine o’clock.” And then the scene cuts to a page with no voices or musics were added for the very last time. 5 seconds later… switched off! I remembered when analogue television was around Australia when I was a younger kid in the early 2000s
Thank you for uploading this. I was just thinking what's the name of that guy that did the movie intros. I had to look it up and i ended up here. I have such fond memories of watching these with my nana when i stayed over on holidays. I wish there was a place to watch all his presentations with the movies. Living in the world was so much better back then in almost every meaningful way.
Peter Hitchner is still presently the head newsreader for Channel Nine! :)
No he's not
Interesting story about the break-in at the Fitzgerald Unquiry office in Brisbane.
My parents have that model TV on the left they bought in the 70’s, still working. AWA I think is the brand. That tv got a lot of use in the 80’s and 90’s.
1:47 Mickey Mouse Club
I forgot they used to show public works documentaries like this before the age of Internet 😂
Please god let me go back to the 80s and have my childhood over.
I wish they would bring these back I gave up mobiles after the flood. I want to be young again . a lot of good and bad things about that era . the late 80s and 90s were the best.
notice how none of the ads now show colorful clothing and just everyday people looking good. its all old news readers who were overpaid and boring.
What's with the bath and shower references? I could be wrong, but I don't recall there ever being either on trains, and definitely not buses!
I always thought it was a bit rough to be paying for a long stretch of the former 'South Eastern Freeway'- which had already been paid for by Victorian taxpayers. But what would I know? Throwing sand at the media- a classic Kennett move. I'm by no means a fan of his policies or his political agenda (I would never vote Liberal in my life), but at least he had a sense of humour. I became friends with one of his kids, who felt similarly to myself about many of his father's political decisions. It must have been hell at times, having an association that's beyond your control. Thanks for the U/L. It's always good to see historic footage of Melbourne.

Gran Sale! Gran Sale! Gran Sale!
Not as iconic fall damaging as the "Big Red" or "Heavy Green" more alittle classy and found in many malls or shopping centres. In the 90's there was a blue version with a black handle etc.
I remember the blue one but it was a way different design with the hand set on the face of the machine . They were generally on a stand with a little open box for a phone book and they do were digital in number dialing and had a small screen they were dark blue . The orangecone were much better quality and never seemed to break the blues always had a problem though .cheers
I think that the train is either a Hitachi or a Harris type. Pretty jumpy and optimistic television ad but come forth after 39+ years here?! There is little for melbournians to be happy about now in 2023 regarding voting etc.
Almost every 80's household had one of these...Essentially a Bullworker for your crotch.
Such creativity and enthusiasm here!!! I was thoroughly entertained by these ads but 80's TV ads always delivers unlike today's mindless tripe which always condescending and irritating...
I sadly never really got to travel on the once iconic orange livery of V/Line in the 1980's but I do remember it alot. It wasn't until 2017 that I got travel on them and they were so-so at best.
Well of course it was so-so you are taking the train 30 or 40 years too late
Farmers were once highly regarded and respected in the 1980's. They were seen as a national icon or a hero, we even excursions to farms as well. Nowadays you barely hear about them except their struggles to times of self deletion, hiring pack packers and involved with many other suss activities. That guy looks alike the guy from the late 90's to early 2000's Danoz Direct promoter....It's a bit sad really with our farmers.

H.R. Giger approves.
I always loved watching this advert, especially the boy trying to impress the young lady, being a gentleman struggling to set up a deck chair for her.
19 years later broad gauge is still going strong and being built, not sure what the issue is?

the thing I hate the most about it is that I was alive at this time and easily could have seen it end, even if i would have had no clue what was going on.
I would've been 9 when it happened.
@@namachef I was 8 years old at the time, I wouldn't have known and I wouldn't have cared
@@gggumball It's interesting going back and seeing what happened in the world as a kid when you were too busy being a kid to see it.
@@namachef oh absolutely! it can be a little sad though if something happened that interests you years later but you missed it because you didn't care at the time
