Susan that is not tide, it is current. The tide move vertically, the current moves horizontally. That is not a powerful boat, it is a crazy boat operator. I was a tugboat captain in BC waters for some years, also I’ve done Gabe for 10 years.

I've taken my own commercial fishing vessel through there several times. Never tried to run against the current, never seen anybody else try it either. I do hope he announced his "upstream passage" well on the VHF before he started. That's a narrow channel, would be a rude awakening to see a boat running against the tide if I was running with it.

Curious to know where Mudge islanders park their boats on Gabriola when going across for groceries and supplies, and if that costs moorage. There doesn’t seem to be a community dock on Mudge, just a private one? So do the folks who live there full time just park their boats on the beach full time? And where do Mudge islanders park their cars on Gabriola, and if they have to pay for parking
