I have been working on a Rescued Craigslist find. With your help, I will say it is a model 161. Sadly, the canvas and the structure are missing . The rest seems to be intact. I hope to find replacement canvas and poles. My other thought is to “build” a Wall Tent, over/around the box. You have a very nice piece of history!

My uncle contacted my dad about a 72 type 3 fastback that was in good condition. Apparently the first owner wanted to do something with it but didn't end up having it done because he died but the guys friend kept it for him in a lot behind his shop. Sold it for 2,500k It ran and had 45k miles, great condition and minimal rust we are the second owner and currently are replacing the engine because the original was very weak and barely worked now it has about 2080cc still waiting on the transmission tho.

The VW is worth way more as a parts car. Unless you're doing the body work it would be a small fortune to repair.

You didn't show the crank and jack to take it off the hitches and to level it up. Room for 2 adults and five children. Sleeping bags and folding table on box. Other gear, clothes,, food, stove, in storage. Ours has a mosquito net door as well. Need to fiind 1" ball hitch.

Very cool! My first car in high school was a ‘66 Type 3 Square Back. Miss that car-a joy to drive.

I remember these cars but never the notch back version, and I think it's because they were' not imported into my country.

They were not nearly as popular as the squareback (wagon) and later fastback (hatch) versions.

Brother!! This 64 is a beaut! That dash is mint! And funny how you have a Red needle clock and fuel gauge but white needle speedo, my 64 has the opposite, just a red needle speedo! Pretty nice car man, Ive restored worse! I have a floor pan replacement video using KlassicFab panels! Best of luck man! You are correct, an S model would be dual carbs.

Had a 2 wheel model in early 70s. It was a great camper. Also had a 65 VW Doormobile B 4 that. Camper all over Germany in both.

Hi, I came here, looking for advice. Because I’m going to use our old Heilite car toper, for a trip or two. It’s in beautiful shape, except for the canvas cover. It has some tears, and stains. I’m nervous about cleaning and repairing, canvas that’s so old. Love your 122 in the background. Now that’s style.

What is the hitch on the front of your dormobile?

Previous owner added it to mount a receiver for a bike rack. Personally never used it. It’s welded to the frame rails very strong.

I just bought a 1958 161 and thanks to your video know a little more about it! The previous owner had a hitch that plugs into my truck's receiver, and a custom made bike rack that can be attached on top of hitch.

I have one without the canvas tent. It is converted to a two wheel axle trailer. Cornering gets squirrelly sometimes with the single caster wheel. It's for sale.
