Cleaning the kamado Joe
I use my Kj all year round but periodically I like to give it a good clean.
Best way to clean a Kj is with heat.
Big basket of charcoal and let it roar. Burn few a good few hours on a high temp and all the residual grease and fats will be gone.
I remove the metal trays and holders as they don’t need this kind of heat.
I also remove the thermometer as it doesn’t need to be run this hot for so long.
Hope this helps

Hunter Parkray aspect 4 compact

Putting a Parkray aspect 4 compact back together. This is a lovely simple stove to dismantle and rebuild. Things to be careful of are that the rear brick goes the correct way up - air holes at the bottom. The metal baffle sits nicely on the with the two side parts over hanging. Otherwise it’s simple - One base brick , normally first out and last in. Two side bricks One top brick One top metal b...

Unboxing and first burn on a stovax Huntingdon 40. Wood only Lovely stove , bloody heavy !! Beautiful glass viewing window 🔥🔥 All quite simple - three fire bricks , although these do have a pattern on them they could be cut from standard fire board to keep cost down. You can see I removed the fire basket and the air vents are behind this. When sweeping I would suggest cleaning all of this out t...

Stovax riva 1 Running on a pumice liner in a new build property. The owners never realised it had to be swept so this is the first clean in five years as you can see from the amount of soot removed ! The owner said the stove has slowed down some what so he tried to clear the holes in his fire bricks with a poker 🤦🏻♂️ anyone that knows to cost of riva bricks can cringe now. Surprisingly althoug...

Hwam 2610 taken apart swept and put back together. Plenty to see here with one of my favourite stoves. Lots of fire bricks to remove, one metal baffle in these stoves and once they are all out you can see the air vents that need cleaning. As I always say don’t force any bricks they should slip in and out naturally. The metal baffle sometimes will still have the travel part in it and this needs ...

Ok ! So this bit of kit is still fairly new to the market and not sure how many reviews or insights there are. I realised this weekend I’ve had it almost two weeks and haven’t done a video yet , and this one is only a quick one as we took it to a show yesterday had lots of interest so chilling today and thought I would get some footage. First off - I’m lovin the bbqube , it looks amazing it’s a...

Sweep and maintenance visit on this newish Hunter herald. Beautiful stove , lovely large glass front and easy to use air control. The bricks are simple and straight forward to remove. Good thickness and feel solid. Both sides bricks were broken but it looks like this could have been done during fitting. New bricks on order. The metal baffle is easy in and out once the shelf it sits on has been ...

Beautiful ACR woodpecker 5 plus get its annual sweep and service. I like these stoves a lot. I’ve always thought that it is a lot of stove for the money, that these stoves are a great deal ! Almost a steal ! You’ve got great efficiency but on top of that you have a great looking stove with a huge viewing window for that visual effect. Beautiful Firebelly stove have a chimney sweep and clean. Love this stoves - simply made and good to use. One top tip is there is an air vent on the top that if you open it gives you a little more wiggle room to remove the top baffle. The bricks are nice and simple , flat and standard shape. I use a thinner rod to negotiate the first part of the mechanics and then use my flue cleaning brushes t...

Are they magnets you’re using to secure the sheet? Clever.
@@alexandercarter2088 thank you Alexander. Yes that’s correct , magnets 🧲
This was a very useful video. Reattaching that left side retainer is the hardest bit, I find the lever jams up against it and you have to force it. I wish it was designed with a bit more play in the lever.
@@alexandercarter2088 yes your not wrong.
Thanks for the great video! I have this stove and wasn't too sure of how to remove and refit the lining. Your great vid shows this, step by step. Thanks!
Ok. How would you rate this stove?
@@MyTing775 this is a great stove. Visually it is great with a large window and the heat it puts out is amazing. Very easy to control 👌
@@stubbyschimneysweeping6096 thanks. Ime looking at this or heta ambition 5
@@MyTing775 both very good stoves. Personally I prefer the Parkray.
Brand/model #?
Do you or anybody on here know how the top air wash system works on these ??. I’ve just bought one and the top knob is stuck in the out position. I’ve no idea how it works to be able to take something out and free it up abit. Thanks
@@philrobinson215 hi Phil I’ve never had issue with air wash on a aga but first attempt would be is the nob to tight , somtimes when in place these can be screwed to tighten them in position. Second would be take all the insides out like in this video and see what nuts and bolts there are that can be loosened off to give it a good clean out and use something like copper greese to get it all moving again. Generally most good stoves allow for maintenance work so it should be accessible. Or contact local sweep and say you need a full service of the stove due to said issues. Let me know how you get on.
@@stubbyschimneysweeping6096 I’ve not looked to much yet as it’s still sat in the car, I kind of had a bit of a push pull twist but nothing seemed to happen really. I do plan on stripping it down giving it a good clean, reblack the outside and all new stove rope before installing but i had hoped someone could just x y and z me to the finish like with the air wash lol. Thanks for the reply
Could it be the Smokless zone version? There is a screw that stops the top knob being pushed all the way in and so it runs with more air and the fire cannot easily be shut down to get a rolling flame. The fire in this video (and others that I have seen) have been adapted by their owners to have cord blocking the vents to get the same effect. The stoves burn very fiercely otherwise
@@garyharris5291I have managed to free it up today, got the wet vac in the and blew some crap out gave it a good hoover and it’s real nice and free now but like you say still doesn’t push in fully. When looking inside through the slits at the top the metal plates have grooves in and it is moving all the way front to back of the grooves, I can’t see a anything blocking it otherwise bar the bolts going through the metal and in the grooves. I’ve not fired up the stove yet to be able to say if it shuts the air wash at the top off fully or not yet. Would I still need to adapt it to prevent it from running fiercely if I’ve got the top air wash working ?
Great video. Did one of these yesterday and it was a pain. I fitted a new back brick but the stove looked quite old so I think the metal had warped and putting the bricks back in was a bit of a nightmare. Millimetres of space. Ended up sanding the edges of the bricks and tapping them in gently with a mallet. I have to say though, they are the most solid firebricks I’ve seen. Almost like real bricks. Luckily I didn’t need to remove the baffle. I was able to remove the vertical flue opening and then clean the chimney from there. Then hoovered everything out. 👍
Do you know if it is possible to remove the multi fuel section from these? Thanks
Good question , I know it’s avaible as wood only so presumably this would come out. If the grate is loose then yes. There will be a hole to fill from the riddler bar to the right but this would be a part that you can purchase.
@@stubbyschimneysweeping6096 thank you for the reply. Yes the grate is loose, and I believe it's optional. I'll do a little more investigation once this fire is out haha.
@@dandii.. undo the riddler handle and it should lift out ! Keep it in the garage though in case you change your mind but also I would hazard a guess that the multi fuel kit isn’t cheap to buy !
👍
Great video though, nice and clear
Once the throat plate is in place it ain't going anywhere. Do you need the wings ?? Seem to be a needless extra
Good question , I have seen them running without but I generally put them back in to run it as manufacturers instructions.
Thanks for the videos, really helped me out
Thank you for the commmet
All untrue! Does not work AT all
? What doesn’t work ?
Best stove on the market ,everything simple and parts easy to get.
Brilliant video, thanks for sharing 👍
Thank you very helpful
Very helpful video thanks. Does the fire have to be removed in order to sweep the chimney? I have a CV400 with a lined flue. Thank you.
Thanks phill I personally like to remove all fire bricks and baffle to really give it an effective clean and also an annual check on the bricks. I don’t remove fire grate normally unless needed.
Wrong…sorry…the right(primary) is only used to start the stove using wood. After that it’s closed down and the left (secondary) is used to control the stove. HETAS qualified engineer speaking.
🤣 good spot , can’t believe I made that mistake. I’m also sure it had a P & S on the knobs 🤦🏻♂️ No manuals were left when using the trailer 🤣
I have always stripped and cleaned my own Wenlock out every year for the past 11 years the baffle plate is indeed baffling at times and I have yet to find a sweep that could put it back for me, but there is one coming tomorrow as I have injured my shoulder so let’s see how he gets on I will, of course show him your video.. thanks for posting Peter
I must admit I quite enjoy a wenlock 🤣
How did he get on ?
He did very well and turned it all round within an hour including cleaning the stack. In fact, I have booked him in again for next year because I am struggling with arthritis. Not many people can do them that easy. We must have a gift..@@stubbyschimneysweeping6096
Hi how efficient is it please thanks
Very efficient. They put out heat amazingly. Very easy to control so you don’t waste fuel
Thank you
Great video, could not get baffle in until viewing this. You saved me hours more of distress.
Thank you 🙏
Haw come that rope cuvering the vent up
Customer believes in the summer that even with the vent closed to blows in cold air so each summer she ropes it up.
We have this log burner and the bottom vent spin dial is jammed any idea on how to fix this?
@@samstevens8605 Hi Sam , I would suggest giving it a firm tap with something , maybe a rubber mallet. It should just be seized slightly but nothing stopping it.
@@stubbyschimneysweeping6096 thank you very much will give it a try. If this does not work can it be repaired or would we have to get a new door for it?
@@samstevens8605 believe it can be removed from the inside. One bolt.
Wrong way round mate
Good spot 👌 just checked and your correct. I’m sure there was P & S on the knobs 🤦🏻♂️🤣 Everyday is a school day.
Great vid 🎉 The best and possibly only clear vid on how put that plate back in. Top work 👍
Thanks! Got the exact same stove and couldn’t put it back together without this.
Thanks @stuartsawyer5180 glad it helped 👍
I agree with you about these ACR Woodpecker stoves. They have a modern contemporary look with large crystal glass and they burn very clean and are not expensive. It burns so clean that I have found it quite difficult to black the glass. What I like about mine is that as the glass is so large you can observe the secondary combustion taking place at the top of the stove which is almost mesmerizing in the patterns that it creates. That metal deflector baffle plate at the the top of the stove is quite tricky to re-install correctly as I have found out myself. The only thing I would change about this stove is to have the front fence a little taller to stop embers and logs rolling out of the fire quite so easily, but thats only a minor point.
Yes it’s funny you say that I actually have a customer that purchased a second log retainer and puts it on top of the other one for that reason and claims it works a treat.
Thank you for the demo. How does this one (being a dedicated wood burner) compare to the Blithfield in terms of usability, quality and controlability?
Great question @daisyb5646 Both stoves are very controllable with great efficiency. This has just one air control as it wood only but the blithfield is multi fuel so will have two air controls - primary and secondary. Both 5kw and very suitable for any homes.
Hi. Ime looking at this stove as a possible. Do you rate it ? Thanks
Hi @myting775 for me this could be stove of the year. Great burning , large view window, very controllable
Thanks. Any issues with smoking when opening door? I run an ivar 5 in other room which is great but can often smoke as these highly efficient stoves have very tight fitting baffle plates. Draw on actual chimney is excellent.
@@MyTing775 no smoke issues at all. These stoves run so well. Easy to light as well.
