Swungover
Приєднався 27 сер 2013
The official UA-cam channel of the swing dance blog Swungover (tm), as written by international swing dance instructor Bobby White.
Swungover: 1. (adj) the mental and physical results of binge jitterbugging. 2. (n) a blog of random swing dancing thoughts by Bobby White.
Bobby has a sordid past in newspaper, magazine, and fiction writing. He has won championships of many different sorts and teaches Balboa, Lindy Hop, Solo Jazz, and a little Collegiate Shag with his partner Kate across the world. He gives talks on both historical and personal adventures in jitterbug history. If you would like to hire Bobby and Kate for their swing dancing services, please visit www.bobbykate.com. He is honored to be a part of the Frankie Manning Foundation.
He invented the word "swungover" to describe the sensation he and the entire swing scene had the Monday after Frankie Manning's 95th birthday/memorial weekend in 1999.

IR 36: Walking by the Norma Table (w TARYN NEWBORNE)
Переглядів 169Рік тому
TARYN NEWBORNE , who started off in ballroom dance before finding swing and Lindy Hop, has combined her passions to become an amazing swing singer and band leader. She joined us to talk about her story, what a swing scene family is, and hopes for how we can emerge from the pandemic. Making a great record takes a lot of time, and, sadly, money. You can help make a Taryn Newborne album a reality!...

This is a few excerpts of Mura Dehn's "The Spirit Moves" footage with name identifications added. These are not the only dancers we have identified in the footage, however by no means do we have complete identifications of the 1951 work, which was filmed over the winter of 1950-1951 in New York city. Featured dancers are: Thomas King, Esther Washington, Lee Moates, James "Ronnie" Hayes, "Tall" ...

Best way not to kill people on a crowded dancefloor...........dance balboa not swing!
Amazing!
4:50 Jean Veloz with Marcus Koch
As an older person in the scene, who came to it late in life (so I'm not a respected "elder" dancer!), I can relate to this conversation, even though age (and the physical limitations that come with it) was not specifically discussed. Thank you for all your wonderful conversations!!
Wow! that was wonderful! You'll never see that kind of dancing again!
What do my daddy's real at the moondance finalists 1936
Cant believe you found James "Ronnie" Hayes. Sonny Allen said that he'd dance like that all night long. Thanks for putting this together.
Very nice 🙂
The contributions from the audience are incredible. Kudos to all of the folks who spoke up.
❤❤❤❤❤
Just here for the good gig goss
Real dancing!!!!!! and people think they dance today! ❤
Ahh!! Trust is so important. One of the worst moments of partnership I had was when someone spun me and walked away because they were rushing to join another part of the class. I was expecting a connection and counterbalance was abandoned. So much of this conversation resonates.
And “say yes to what you have” is the thing I needed to hear. I haven’t been back to dancing more than a few times since COVID and a lot of it is lack of motivation about being out of shape, lack of endurance, more weight, more hurty knees, etc. but it’s something that brings me joy. A half dance of joy is better than no dance of joy so thanks for the encouragement.
and I know need to find classes with alla yall. I’m so excited.
Ok, hear me out. #countryfocus needs to be a thing. Great discussion! 50:00
Hola. Me encantó el gato. Hey I love cat.
😒 'Promo SM'
Thanks for the try. I am so uncoordinated I can't do it. Just call me ELAINE!!!
Absolutely stellar compilation. Thank you!
Thank you so much! 😊
That “Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise” at 10:30 always gives me chills 😰
Thank you. Only possible way I would ever be able to learn this, by breaking the different motions apart.
never noticed before the cornet player plays a shade of the Louis Armstrong vocal break on sweet sue! Armstrong is everywhere!
White dancer couldn't compare, because the melanated ones created this dance, you hate us soo much but you can't produce our energy, Melanted Ancestors are speaking. Stop hating melanated folks, maybe, then you can copy our greatness, I think not. Repent!
Melanated is where it's at! Shout out to the real linday dancers. I
Great👍🏽
We need our own Lindy Hop dance scenes. Here you have a bunch of white people who are performing in predominantly black American cultural dance moves. But yet somehow someway they are intimidated by black people, that is odd!. But the fact is, we need our own Lindy Hop movement... It started with us, it should end with us..
Years later I still love this video!!!!! Love the way you dance. You make it look so easy!
Thanks!
Thank you for giving black people their credit
That was great fun, and I admire the work. Thank you.
Incredible footage! Thanks for sharing.
An extraordinary piece of dance history. In some of the clips, I assumed the female dancer was Irene Thomas, but turned out to be Jewel McGowan, who I wasn't aware of until looking at other YT material. I simply can't believe the energy of people of that era, and of course the astonishing dancers, named here with thanks, of Whitey's Lindy Hoppers in Hellzapoppin'. I'm deeply impressed. Thank you, Robert, UK.
Alwesome Tuto Thanks and Be blessed 🙏❤️
❤️
Sheer brilliance ❤️
❤️❤️❤️
amazing
this is maaad and awesooome ❤️
I feel so dumb, I'm a musician and this is hard for me lol. I've never danced in my life...so this is interesting and seems like a great way to get fit, and I'm starting right here.
no volume?
Please note! In the intro I say "a lot of things were safe to talk about in 190s comedy..." I should have said "a lot of things were relatively acceptable to talk about among the general adult comedy audience..." or something to that affect. Still learning how to discuss these important topics!
Very nice. Thanks. Blessings always 🙏
Can't see where the music is coming from...I wonder whether they were dancing on a Live band or music played from recordings on a certain type of sound system?
Live band! By the stage. Throughout its entire run, 1935-1974.
Your work is a godsend. Thank you so much.
Fabuloso, té felicitó.
Thanks for this great video, and.. Promise! :))
Hi Bobby. Thank you for your instructions! It looks awesome. Top!
I still can't do this move haha it's difficult and especially if you don't have the right shoes on haha.
