2024 Entiat Vintage Regatta Grand Prix Final
The final exhibition of the weekend took the form of a Grand Prix final from the 70s. Originally over the weekend, times would be kept for several classes with the fastest from each class being chosen.
An example would generally include N-225s, F-5liters, H-division 1 7liter, J-division II 7liter, and could also include flat bottoms like SS-super stock.
The slowest boats would be allowed on the course while the fastest were delayed entry. Off the top of my head, I don’t remember the prize for winning. However, Sammamish was known for putting on GP finals.
The lineup for this event was the 145 Tiger Too, 280 Water Scamp, 280 Country Stoves, and 5 Liter Pegasus.

Experimented with a shoulder view for the GoPro. Some refinement to do before I’m completely satisfied, but it’s something different than the wing mount. The red flash on the lightceiver was for hardware malfunction on another boat.

That motor sounds so beautiful when you 1st start it and rev it a bit high. Is it a V-8? Lovely sound!
Yes, it is a 368 Chevy small block. 13:1 compression and 18° heads, she will really scoot in clean water!

My father's good friend was a kilo world record holder Ray Gassner the boat was called SUNSHINE BABY 7 liter. Sure miss the Southland sweepstakes Regatta.....
Sunshine Baby was restored. Don't think it runs at any vintage events. Tom D'eath drove it after Ray retired. And a true gentleman Gassner died 1970-? 71. My sister was Miss St,Pete and sat in the Baby 1964 or 65, in the down town parade before the boats headed to the pits at Maggorie. I miss those years also.

The first naturally aspirated powered limited hydro the average over 100 mph on a 1 2/3 mile course. F62, driven by Gordie Gilmer. 302 CI Chevy with two 4-bbl carburetors. Engine by Gary Michael. A great milestone.
Only half a mile an hour off the division 1 7-liter record at the time.

Matt M...R.I.P! This was a tragic accident and this is just another reason why U need to know Jesus Christ as your Lord & Savior! U never know when ur gonna die, if U were to die today just like Matt died unexpectedly last Friday & ur all the sudden standing b4 Jesus are U sure ALL your sins are forgiven? are U sure where ur goin? heaven or hell? For this very reason U need to ask Jesus Christ into ur heart and ask him to forgive U of ALL your sins cuz just like Matt, U never know when ur gonna all the sudden be standing B4 the LORD!
