ONWARD4x4 - Overlanding the USA
United States

"For many years I have traveled in many parts of the world. In America I live in New York, or dip into Chicago or San Francisco. But New York is no more America than Paris is France or London is England. Thus I discovered that I did not know my own country." - JOHN STEINBECK (Travels With Charley)

This episode is about two ferries. After a few days camping at the beach, I continued my way along the Outer Banks of North Carolina going Southbound, and left Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The first ferry is the Ocracoke Xpress Ferry which takes you from the Hatteras Island to the Ocracoke island. Once on the Island, again continued along Southbound and arrived at the second ferry which the...

I left Virginia Beach towards the Outer Banks of North Carolina to visit the Wright Brothers National Memorial and it did not disappoint, It was neat to see where the first motorized flight took place and the plane in which the event happened. The Park is beautiful and the memorial and museum is worth visiting. The Outer Banks of North Carolina is beautiful and beaches are just some of the best...

Circle City, Alaska - Steese Highway - Overlanding Alaska

Took a day trip to Circle City, Alaska driving on the Steese Highway. Steese Highway starts out as a very nicely paved highway but around mile 75 or so, pavement ends. The dirt road is pretty well packed and smooth and so I did not have the need to air down my tires. Circle, ALaska is a remote fishing and hunting destination. It was named Circle because the folks who went there first, thought t...

Next time you come up here ask about me Isaiah Boyle aka Ozzy
Thanks AGAIN.....I missed Eagle in 1968....nice
Thank you....very nice tour.. in 1968 as a weee boy from Indiana fresh out of Diesel trade school with Army looming about i made a plan to SEE the END OF THE ROAD as my destionation from Talbot. Indiana. I looked a many maps and decided my fun adventure would be the GREAT distance to ride on my Suzuki 100 scooter loaded with all my camping equipment needed to enjoy a GREAT ADVENTURE to Circle. ALASKA...I did it..july..August..September.. October.....Bye by..Timothy
And to think back in 1968 i had NO clue the Dalton Highway was just a Buldozer path and i could only head to CIRCLE as my adveture continued with my story only now being typed and detailed as possible to share with family and friends to feel the dream ADVENTURE i experienced July August September October 1968..a great year to be 18..
It's not a race.
I went for the midnight sun
110 = 68
Im taking the same route
You mention this place you're going to I want to get a pop-up in my jeep so bad and they have one in Portland where I'm
It's Ursa Minor Vehicles. Goodle it--they have shop in Seattle.
I forgot all about Wendy's, chili. Yes its really good❤
Why u don't get a deep sleep made specifically for the jeep wrangler they are so comfortable they come in a black nice bag
I'm eagerly awaiting the next episodes!
Great information. Thank you for the good, to the point video. Two thumbs up 👍👍
So glad you find the video helpful and thank you for watching!
Good video. I drove it in a Kia minivan. I didn't need extra gas, but I did bring it. I gave me piece of mind as when I was driving south I got to Eagle Plains after it closed. I thought I had enough gas to make it to the end, but only about 50 miles of buffer (I made it no problem). I brought 1 FULL SIZED spare, which I did use. I had my donut as the 2nd spare. The reason I got the flat was I was driving too fast...so go slow. You should go slow anyway. It's amazing. Honestly I would take at least 3 days in each direction. Longer if possible. One thing you missed: Pay attention during fire season if there are fires starting. I would have been stuck in Fort McPherson if I didn't get past a fire in time. There were no fires on the way north, but one started south of Eagle Plains when I was in Tuk.
I did not know about the fires. Thanks for adding it and thank you for watching!
Shared on the web at OCRACOKELIVE 🎥😎🌴
They actually accessed Whittier which was called Camp Solomon at the time was by boat before the tunnel was built.
You are absolutely correct! Thanks for the notation 😃 (I did remember to mention by boat at the end).
Never been on this and always wanted to know how the process goes.
The process is super easy. You can get your ticket online and then simply get on the ferry and ride! It's really nice. Thanks for watching!
Love following along!!
Thanks for watching!! 😁
Been waiting for your next Adventure. Darn yt notifications suck. Man Rhonda looking Sweet. I'd still try & find some metal in the tow hitch to get that wiggling jiggling to a minimum. Looking forward to seeing where you take us. Thanks for sharing your journey's with us.
That clamp took care of the rattle pretty nicely-it's solid with it. Thank you so much for watching!! I so appreciate your comment. Thank you!!

Nice video , I have to cross American to Canadian border at Coutts in August . Is it very busy ? Don't want to wait all day . 😢
It wasn't busy at all when I crossed. When I arrived there were about 2 or 3 vehicles ahead and things went pretty quickly. Good luck and enjoy your trip!
nice wheels 🚙
Thank you!

Very nice economical upgrade. I have seen replacement quality LED fog lamps $340 OUCH. I`m gonna go with these stick on`s. Thank you brother, good video
Glad this was helpful!!
@@Onward4x4 Had installed the LAMIN-X 1yr ago. Still looks great.
Good video with good music. Finally some music in a video that you can listen to. Keep it up! The SCHF-36 knife, is in several respects, not an ideal knife, neither for bushcraft nor to process food. A carbon steel is usually very susceptible to rust. The knife grind and the thickness of the blade is also not ideal for such work. What I can recommend in any case is, look at various knives from Joker. What have proven themselves to me over the past few years, are filgende parameters for a outdoor / survival knife. 1.the blade should have a flat grind 2. maximum blade thickness 5mm 3. a good stainless steel and no carbon steel which is maintenance-intensive. Joker offers these parameters with a very high quality and at fair prices. I can highly recommend the following knives: Joker "Montes II Joker "Campero Joker "Ember Joker "Nomad I also purchased the SCHF-36 some time ago, and now have it in my car for when I need it. What I can also highly recommend is the "Lion Steel T5". Meanwhile, it is one of my favorite knives, because the build quality is very high, and the stainless steel holds an edge a very long time.
i bought one of these tanks for a US army guy, just one problem, the filler cap is not lockable - what could be the solution? I will be travelling in Africa, hence the question.
You may be able to find lockable gas tank caps. I am unaware of any.
You're about as clumsy as a cow on crutches😅 Mudflaps on a jeep?😅😂😅😂🎉
What percent of the magic circle is men 😅
Hah... that is a good question. I saw mostly women--but that's either because I have only eyes for women or there were in fact more women... 🤷♀
Got one but I had to grind the handle bump off would hurt my middle finger. I have to massively disagree with you this knife is 6mm thick and batons like a beast I only used it for batoning its so much fun. The thicker the knife better for chopping wood
I have no reason to doubt you. I have used its sister knife to baton wood for several years (the Schrade SCHF9) and I have no reason to doubt you can do the same with this one--even if it is a bit too small for my taste. These knives are very well made. Thanks for the comment and watching!
Canadia? WTF? Amerika……..
I used the term without any malice. Obviously it offended you and I am sorry. My intention wasn't to offend-I have zero reason to offend any Canadian. I also googled the term and I could not find any reference to it being considered offensive. In any event, my trip to Canada was awesome and love to do it again. Cheers.
@@Onward4x4 no worries, we understand. It’s all good…….. I hope you enjoyed Alberta, B.C. And the Yukon on your way to Alaska…..
@@westbenchmancave I did enjoy it. The drive all the way up was amazing. i want to go back.
@@Onward4x4 Thanks for keeping us in mind for your future adventures. There’s lots to see and explore on the main routes and countless adventures await you on the not so main routes. Stay off the beaten path and explore a little…….
Great video. I've been there many years ago so there were many memories. He missed the landmark in Chitna, the "It'l Do Cafe," now closed and dilapidated, a classic tale in itself of better days. It also left out a discussion of the constant danger on the road: a flat tire from an emergent railroad spike or other hazard on the road built over the old railroad. It connected the Kennecott mine and plant with the ocean, beginning with the McCarthy-Chitna leg. He's right: get in, see it and leave, unless you want to hang around for the scenery. 2024
Subscribed. Hope to see more of your 2023 videos.
Thank you!!! Am working on it!!!
Canadia??? Lol
Well.. you know....!! 😂😂😂
I have seen and thoroughly enjoyed each of your videos. No pressure, but are you planning any future content?
Oh man, that is so nice to hear. Thank you so much!! Yes, I am currently on the Trans America Trail and will make videos once I am done. So there will be more!!!! 😄 Thank you again so very much!
@@Onward4x4 my pleasure. My wife and I are downsizing and will be heading out “part timing”. Our travel pace is more closer to your’s, as opposed to rushing between destinations. Look forward to your video.
I've had my Schrade 36 for 3 years and it's become my everything knife. I use it to cut my pizzas to steaks to opening boxes.. I use it for everything. I just ordered the Schrade 28. They call it the Little Ricky.. This one is about $50.. I paid like $25 for my Schrade 36. The Schrade beat the Esee and the Kabar in the destruction test. The Esee and Kabar broke in 1 hit on concrete.. The Scrade lasted the longest. I saw the vids on Joe X. He beat the hell out of the Schrade before it broke.
They are really work horses and well made!
Thank you for the fairly advise
You are welcome. I hope you find them useful!
Re the screws' lengths - FWIW, I have installed WeatherTech mud flaps on my JS Sport a couple of weeks ago, both front and rear, and all screws were long enough for their respective purposes.
Let's go relax in nature and make it loud, trashy, and obnoxious for everyone else...
Why would you want to do that?
I don't know where this is but there are no off-road trails inside Echo Bluff SP. Some people actually went through the creek on ATVs here last year and got $500 tickets.
Really? We had a local guy who guided us through the trail. FWIF...
@@Onward4x4 there are gravel roads through Pioneer Forest but none through Echo Bluff State Park. People see this video and think they can use Quadrunners and side by sides on the parks trails that are only for hiking. The forest is not part of the state park. It is privately owned.
When did you do your Alaska trip??
From May, June and July 2022. Are you planning? Let me know if you have any questions-I'll try to answer them!

@ONWARD4x4 - Overlanding the USA thanks for the heads up, we'll change it to mid July
Were you there July 14 and there’s still ice
I reckon there is ice year around up there...
You are right on about how several, if not most, “UA-camrs” exaggerate the conditions on a trip. I traveled the Idaho BDR in October and only used 4 wheel drive once. I watched a , video ,when I got home and they made it seem like the IBDR was a gauntlet of obstacles that only they were capable of overcoming. The whole trail can be run in any stock pick up for sure. Keep the videos coming. Please overlook any typos. I’m 65 yo and techno challenged.
Ha ha!! So true!! Thank you 😂 BTW-I did not notice any typos!
I found your channel about a month or so back. I thoroughly enjoy the content and appreciate the laid back style. One day I hope to experience similar trips. I am outside of Louisville. If you’re ever traveling through, I would enjoy meeting for coffee or a beer. Keep the videos coming and be safe.
Oh man that's very nice of you to say! Thank you! I''ll be sure to holler if I am in the neighborhood!
Overall this is a nice well instructional viedo in titan fuel tank but note going to a shop to install wheel studs you could have done yourself they are very easy to install use a air hammer in second they ore installed , I own 5 offroad vehicles build I am currently working on my 2007 land rover lr3 build I added a terrafirma spare tire swing out and I'm thinking of buying the titan spare fuel tank I believe this one will work fine also trail'd makes a spare tire fuel tank my concern was will it leak being mounted in my original spare space gas too flammable to be making any mistakes
Correct-there are several ways to feed a cat 😄 Tho I still think the install kit should come with the studs already mounted... Perhaps I expected too much! 🤷
Not true on needing a press to install or remove wheel studs a hummer or air hammer easily removes or installs them ive done it before I prefer a air hammer but a regular hammer works fine
New to the channel, new jeep owner, look forward to traveling along on the adventure!
Thanks for watching!! I hope you enjoy the videos. Let me know if you have any questions!
It's Coutts,AB.
No. It's Sweetgrass on the Montana side. Sweetgrass is separated by the US/Canadian border from Coutts. So, if you start from the US side, you are in a city called Sweetgrass, Montana. Once you cross the border, then you enter Coutts.
@@Onward4x4 you said Coutts is in British Columbia... Coutts is in Alberta.
@@Onward4x4 Yeah, he's right. Coutts is in Alberta, not British Columbia.
