Fit for Life with Dallman Ross

Healthy and comfortable fitness without gyms or equipment! That's the emphasis here.
It's 2021. I'm 65 now. I had slowly put on weight since the 90s. I developed heart disease and needed medical intervention eight years ago. I had a new emergency hospital visit in the spring of 2020. That and the danger from Covid together were my wake-up call.
Eleven months ago, I decided to get fit rather than become an easy target for the grave. I lost 23 kilograms - 50 pounds - in ten months. I'm at an ideal weight. BMI's currently 23.0. Body Fat is 13.0%. I haven't stopped the workouts. I want to share my story and my determination with you. Maybe you'll find some inspiration too.
I feel great again. The cardiologist doesn't need to see me now, though he'd expected to. Various other ailments have receded notably or disappeared. My partner of 20 years has never seen me like this. Click the "Body Reset" link below for more about my story and my exercise plan. I'd be pleased to hear from you!

New set record: 70 declines with parallettes! In three weeks I turn 69. I've been working on hitting my age for ten weeks now; I finally beat it.

Crown of head touches next stair below for extra range of motion. This was a good hard set not long after four handstand push-ups! I'll be 69 in a few weeks. Show some love with a 'like' or subscribe!
Deep-eep-eep knee bends with 4-kg dumbbells @ 68

32 of these puppies, going deep-eep-eep with 4-kg dumbbells. Woof! I'm 68.
58 parallette decline push-ups is my second-best ever. I'm 68.

The dumbbell parallettes add significant difficulty by requiring hyper-contraction (elbows past 90 degrees, chest to floor). After I could do two sets of 100 declines without the parallettes (but with this 30-cm offset) in the spring, I upped the ante again and switched to these. I'm 68 and started calisthenics 4½ years ago. That first year, I lost 50 pounds-and I've kept it off! #calisthenics ...
55 decline push-ups with parallettes for full chest-to-floor depth @ 68

55 declines with dumbbell parallettes in today's first set, featured here. Second set got to 51, a second-set record. These things are the bomb! I'm in better condition at 68 than I was 52 years ago in high school. Give a like-let's motivate each other!

51 reps in the second set makes for a new 2-set record: 121 on the day.
Great job. Excellent mobility and balance. Your legs look well developed. Best!
Thanks, friend!
Just did 60 reps on the second set, for what it's worth. Best second set yet and best two-set total with these.
You are full of surprises. Love it.
Thanks! I actually did those often, as in about twice a week, for a couple of years after I started the calisthenics, but I don't know if I ever posted them. I quit them when I had a knee arthroscopy in the spring of 2023 on the advice of the surgeon. But I've decided he was wrong! They qualify as HIT - high-intensity training - that is desired and hard for me to replace with something else. I'm going back to doing 'em! For the record, my radiologist told me a few months ago people shouldn't do pull-ups. He doesn't look so fit to me! These guys may be good at their medical specialties, but they are not trained in sports medicine or physiology.
Неужели нет человека который даст пинка
Tyreek hill being able to do this with no rope is crazy
Noway you're 63
@akshaykrishnan.g7654 I'm not 63, I'm 68. Four years ago, I weighed 50 pounds more and I could've been dead. See my write-up linked from the About/Community page.
Nice. How do you integrate your recovery times? Seems like you're always exercising.
@grampagrit Thanks. I stagger my sets on the multiset work and I switch off with a program to target different muscle groups on different days. For major core work like push-ups and pull-ups, I take a couple days' break in between. For other stuff, I can recover pretty well after a day. I try to use care to practice best form to avoid injury and favor my joints. I try to listen to my body. Take "exercise snacks" over the course of the day!
Incredible, that’s so many! What a year!
Indeed! What a year. Thanks, Antony!
What an awesome story, Dallman! So glad to hear that you’re feeling so good. Onward!
Thanks very much, Bob! I appreciate it.
Great results. Thanks for sharing your story. It's both inspiring and motivating. I too have eliminated many aches and pains with my exercise program started a year and a half ago at age 61. Best! 😊
Thanks for the warm reaction! I love it! Best to you, as well.
This is very impressive 👏
@@Energymadethisone Thank you very much! I appreciate the good word. 🫠

Thanks! I appreciate the reaction. Be well!
This is so important at any age, I am so glad you're working on it! I am working on my balance, personally ❤
Thank you! I do appreciate the weigh-in. And, hey, I've been working on my balance too!
Amazing brother! God bless you! Looking amazing at 68! Keep up the good work
You did a great job of keeping my motivation intact! Thanks so much! Best to you.
Absolutely crazy! I am 28, more fit than the average, pushups are my strength and my all time record is 90!
Thank you very much, friend! There is always a new challenge, with the right motivation.
Just Brilliant! Thanks!
Thanks for that! Be well.

Thanks!
Cool work keep it up maybe u will become famous in future
Stranger things have happened! ☺
found you off a comment on a mike tyson push ups vid. Really impressed doing this at ur age, keep up the good work!
Thanks for looking in! I appreciate the word. Yeah, that was the great @FitnessFAQs, Daniel Vadnal's site, we both checked out. Today I did two sets of 103! I'm stoked. I'll upload a new video soon.
Don't do it pike push up on stair💀
Why the heck not? You mean for fear of falling down the stairs? That's not a particular danger. If I were to fall, I'd just fall on my face. These pikes are terrific and not dangerous.
Damn man crazy strengths I am here stuck at 10 😢
Thanks for watching! Of course, my answer has got to be: don't stop! Improvement will come.
Wow, that’s awesome. And you maintained great form all the way to the end. Incredible.
Entirely pleased to see you drop by, Antony! Thank you for the warm comment. Yes, I feel good about what I've done and will continue, of course, just like you! By the way, I "only" did 84 in the second set this time Sunday. The week before, I had hit my months-long goal of two sets of 100 for the day! I also typically do a third set with parallettes for yet deeper range-of-motion for my chest, which I also did here and the previous week. I got to 26 reps in that final set. I see you on track to repeat your 30-pull-up performance again soon! It's amazing - great strength!
Good job. Keep going. 🎉
Thanks, Tobias!
wow thats really impressive!
Appreciated!
Keep up the good work. Lets f*cking go.
Thank you! Yes, let's go!

Keep it up, your doing great!
Thanks! Appreciated.

Thanks for the critique.
Thank you sir. Keep it up.
I appreciate your looking in! Be well.
You inspire me to make this commitment, as well!
That makes me happy! Thanks.
I’ve seen them called “hamstring lean” or “hamstring curl” They look pretty tough.
Thanks!
I’m 65 and I stopped all of my weight training (with the exception of pull-ups) when I realized how stiff I am. I forget why but I laid flat on my back with my head touching the floor and to my surprise it was painful, very uncomfortable. I couldn’t just lay there and feel relaxed. I then tried (with locked knees) to touch my toes and I couldn’t do it. A couple of weeks later I tried the primal squat with my heels flat on the floor and about 90 degrees was as far as I could go down without tumbling over. So this past December I started stretching. My goal is to be able to do a primal squat and at least 1 muscle up by this December. The muscle up came from UA-camr “Fun With Calisthenics”, he makes it look so easy, whew! The primal squat is no joke, it’s a tough one. I’m working on stretching my heels, calf’s, and hamstrings so my knees will go further past my toes so I can do the squat with heels laying flat. I forgot to mention as part of my stretching I do dead hangs. But, I had already been doing them off-and-on for about a year. When I first started i couldn’t hang for 5 seconds (no kidding) and now I’m up to 2mins with each hang. Long story short, guy’s like you are an inspiration for us baby boomers. Keep up the positivity and good work!
Thanks very much for the remarks! I sympathize with what you've been going through. Pain is no fun! We have to be careful not to injure ourselves seriously. It gets more important than ever as we age! I was surprised to find the primal squats and the dead hangs so helpful. I've been doing those for about a year now. I easily do 10 minutes of primal squats now, about once a week. I read books aloud while I do them. It helps pass the time and it keeps my breathing regular. I did 13 minutes this last week, and it felt good! I could only do half a minute when I started these last spring. My dead hangs also started with 20 seconds or so, but are now past two minutes. My best is now 2:35. That was about three weeks ago. This certainly isn't medical advice, but it seems to be an obvious practical tip to remind everyone to listen to his or her body. I'm all for pushing oneself to personal excellence, but don't ignore obvious pain. The training will still be there when you resolve it. I will say, however, that I personally have found that if I use care and caution while challenging *minor* pain, I can usually almost magically work past it! I found this kind of astonishing, actually. Well, do be careful! But realize that the body is capable of healing itself in remarkable ways if you let it. And we were made to move. Best to you!
Keep it up
Thank you, Dhru!
Looking strong. Keep it up
Appreciated!
Love it.. no stopping you.
I appreciate it, Antony! Thank you.
I'm impressed!
Thanks!
Well done! Now improve the resolution of your videos, please.
Thanks for looking in and for the comment, Bob! I appreciate it. This video has an "FX" filter applied called "posterize." It's supposed to look like that! Kind of fuzzy, but on purpose. I use that filter sometimes, especially on short things. But check, for example, the next-most-recent video in my channel, with eighty-something decline push-ups, for the full, non-downfiltered view. Oh, another point is that my cellphone camera is not the best. It was a €100 Aldi special about four years ago! I have the video resolution cranked up all the way. (The selfie lens might not be as good as the regular one, though.) In the daylight, the videos look pretty sharp. The decline-push-ups one is fairly sharp, for example. But when I tape myself at night, even with the light on in the backdrop room, the videos don't come out entirely sharp. This video was taped late at night. 🙂 Apologies for the (too) long explanation!
@@mefityoufit That’s a good explanation. Thanks!
Today's first set beat that by one, with 86 reps. Today's second set of 77 beat last week's by two. Stay strong, guys!
Your story of going from 1 chin up to sets over over 20 incredible. So pleased for you..
What you’ve achieved since we’ve been buddies on here some 2 or 3 years ago is beyond my comprehension.. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉.
I love that you come by to look and cheer me on! You help me to think about what I do. I like seeing your consistent work as well!
Incredible… words fail me.
I've belted out 115, 110, and 116 reps over three sets a couple of weeks after that one, too! :-) I should put the video together. But as you saw, now I'm on to decline push-ups as a change-up.
Nice progression!
Very much appreciate your looking in, Bob! Thanks so much.
Great form.👍🏽
Thank you! Glad to see what you're doing on your channel.
That is simply incredible. So many puppies in just 4 sets! Congratulation..
Thanks for viewing that one! I had fun with it. My current best with chin-ups is slightly better now. Today was also chin-up day, and I tied my record from a few weeks ago of 25+24+24+24 for 97 on the day! Once I get to 100 in four sets, I think I'll start adding band resistance to these. Pull-ups are not far behind. I'm not up to your record yet, but my best is now 22+20+20+20 reps for a day's worth of four sets. I'm happy with the progress over the last few months.
@@mefityoufit I’m pleased you are happy with the progress. I’m astonished. You’ve come soooo far.
It's fantastic what you are doing right now.
Thank you very much! So nice that you looked in.
21…. Is still very impressive. Form or not.
Awesome.
Thank you!
