Hello! That is an Irish bodhrán.
@@andrewkruspe thanks!
I’m tryna play CAFO by Animals as leaders, this helped a lot thanks!
Sure thing… I’m glad it helped!
Hello Andrew! Any more plans for this channel? I learned a lot from you from your various time signature videos especially. Sorry if this is the wrong place or the wrong time.
Hello, hello, hello! I do, but real life is asserting itself, so I haven’t been able to put as much content up as I want to have. All I can say is watch this space… Thank you so much, and be well!
@@andrewkruspe Thank you glad to hear it! Hope everything is going well with you. Take care my friend.

Glad I found your channel! What a great visual to teach syncopation! Thanks!
Thank you so much!
Since there's no tape, what did you use, if anything, to dampen your Evans drumhead?
Hey! I actually used clear drumstick tape on the head for muffling. It weights it in the same way as black electrical tape.
@@andrewkruspe Any specific brand? I'm curious to try this on my HEDge bodhrán.
Any 1” clear vinyl tape should work. Just search for “clear stick tape“ online.
Excellent idea! It works on other instruments too. Play a song on guitar a few times, then switch to another song or instrumnet then back and notice a more rapid improvemnet on the first one,
Thank you… I’m glad that it resonated with you!
cool ty
I wish Christian still made this bodhrán. It is the perfect one for teaching as well as for unmiked gigs in the open air or in noisy places. You could get a lot of sound with them . Also the weather would not affect them
Wow, Thank you!
Thank you!
I just wrote a bass line in 17/16 BY MISTAKE! This was the first video appearing and made it look EASY!!! And amazing playing! I WANT MORE
Thank you so much!
Andrew, you have some of the most unique and coolest drumming patterns and techniques I have ever seen and heard. I always learn something when I watch your videos. I hope you make some more of them soon. Thanks for the awesome influence.
Hello, and thank you! I’m glad that these videos resonate with you. As for future material, watch this space… Cheers!
Very well explained metronome variations of the beat
Thank you!
This is just SO cool, Andy....starting with one idea and ending up with 1/2 million options!! Also, liking the t-shirt.. the RNLI do some good humanitarian work in the English channel helping migrants in small boats....
Thank you so much! I had a great time putting these videos together during the first summer of the pandemic. As for the shirt, purchased on Inis Oírr… I’m hoping to get a new one this summer!
Or 1e+a2e+a3e+a4e+a 1
Dude I’m baked af with my band mate and we decicded to try and write in 17:4. No fucking metronome can do that so your video saved us
Hey Kruspe you came to Prospect Elementary school to teach me in 4th grade and I loved it?!
Hey! I’m glad that you enjoyed that session!
whats the instrument you used to explain ??
Hello! It is a bodhrán- a frame drum used in Irish traditional music. Cheers!
Brilliant. Thanks, Andy.

@@MrJamesbond207 Make that two answers. And besides, it’s been quite something in the last two years, right?
@@andrewkruspe yea you're right its been pretty wild
I wrote a song partly in 13/8 and I found another way to explain it which seems easier to understand, at least for me. Inspired by David Bennett's piece made up of 5/8 bars that "feel like beats", I tried to make a melody with two 5/8 bars and one 3/8 bar. So I basically devided a 13/8 bar into groups of five, five and three. After that I added a segment that had a waltzy feel, because I grouped the 8th notes as 6 and 7. This I think has a cool vibe to it, because you would expect it to be 6/8, but every second bar has an extra beat.
Hello, and that makes absolute sense! Great explanation, and thank you for sharing that musical idea… Be well!
Earthworks - My Heart Declares A Holiday
Very cool!

Hello Andrew, l've been watching your vids for quite a while and been applying to more or less extent your amazing teaching and tips. So... l have a question that may be could be answered in a vid or just here :-). Watching your videos l am more and more convinced about getting a Rebellion drum. I have certain experience in lrish music with other instruments but l am not looking for an lrish Trad "centered" bodhran. I picked up bodhran for its amazing versability, portability and sofisticated way of playing. And it is not my priority join sessions but to make all the rhythms lm able to play:-) So, Could you give me your insight/opinion about the sounds, range of tones, different sounds. Playability depending on the diff skins used of this amazing little drum which is the Rebellion. It is an expensive one for a bodhran but looks like it is worth each cent of it. Any other model that could be compared to this one? Etc. Thank you very much!
Hey! This may be a conversation better had via email or Zoom. Can you shoot me a message at akruspe@me.com?
@@andrewkruspe Thank you will email you as l do not have a permanent internet connection abd zoom is a little compkicated for me :-)
@@coronelsakura2841 Sounds like a plan. I look forward to it!
This is great. So much tension and release...
Thank you so much!
Just like a harmonic spot on strings, the bodhran has a harmonic 'sweet' spot.
100%. Physics, amirite?
Great video and playing! For jazz in unusual meters, check out Don Ellis and his big band in the 1960's

god that sound so weird yet so... i dunno, its not bad, but its not the best either...
0:56 Brian Mendes was wrong. That beat can make everybody's booty shake and make someone rich!!😂
Hey, and thanks! However, I think that we’ll need Brian Mendes’ opinion on that one!
How's it going man, I'm new to the bodhrán as well as your channel but this is great stuff. I've watched a tonne of great videos on UA-cam about bodhrání, from rudimentary 101 stuff to odd as you like time signatures and all else and nowhere, not one time, did anyone describe finding the sweet spot and the nodal goings on and the what, whys and wheres of them. I mean once you point it out, it's so self evident and unmissable, it's like "There it is, sure where else would it be?", takes the thinking right out of the equation, where it belongs. Sound.
Hello, and thank you! I appreciate the kind words, and I hope that these videos help out as you continue on with the drum. Take care!
@@andrewkruspe thanks man, you too.
