I Turned My Van Into A House (2017)

Converting my Chevy Astro Van into a Tiny House
Walden ? I’m impressed . Good luck to you
how do you stay cool in the summer?
Great build! Love that you brought your Bible, and are proud to show His Word traveling with you! God bless you and your home on wheels.
Im working on converting my 2005 Astro. Zero built-ins for me! I want to be able to clear things out if needed. Portable storage only. Lite Rubbermaid totes, etc. I put in new cushy carpet pad and new plush carpet. Now the entire floor is a potential bed.A twin bed would imply I'll be sleeping solo. I want to be prepared for any scenario.
I like that you didn't gut the van and worked around the original interior. That's my plan as well. Thanks!
Good job. If you change the hinges to be on the back of the drawers, you'll be able to open the doors from your bed and from the doorway.
Very sweet, bro.....ideas for my 2005 AWD Astro!
Thanks Rob, good luck!
Check out Lubeguard.....real science---lowers heat. I run in my oil and trans. lubegard.com/home.aspx
I really need help with converting my 2000 astro van. Know someone in Nevada County Ca.? Able to trade cars and/or RV for help. midnightdavelive@gmail. Thanks for your wonderful video.
I like this
Lovely artwork. What were your reasons for choosing this van? It is on the top of my list, there aren't many van builds for the Astro.
Thanks a lot! I chose this van because it's really stealthy. I've slept in many different parking lots and never once had my door knocked on or anything. Before this I had a huge econoline van, and that thing was just way too big and drew too much attention. Astros are great, I highly recommend them!
I really like the layout. Do you happen to have the width dimensions of the bed and the drawer or the dimensions of the floor? One thing I would suggest is drilling ventilation holes and applying a protector to the wood so you don't get a mildew problem in the future, speaking from experience there.
Hey Rick, sorry for the late reply! Your ventilation hole ideas are a great idea, and I will definitely do that. I just took some measurements for you: Drawers/Cabinet things: 90 in L x 16.25 W x 6.5 in H Bed: 78 in L x 34.25 in W x 10.25 in H Open Floor space at end of bed: 12 in L x 18 in W
Jon Peacock thank you! I'm currently in the process of building out my Astro van. Maybe I'll post a video on it sometime in the future.
Tiny van. Love the way you made the storage box on the floor and under your bed. Plus very homey looking with the vines and candles. I'm 6'3 as well and get lil jelly when I see other setups for shorter people. Being tall has its down sides.
Thanks a lot man, glad you like it! Haha, yeah the struggle is real with being tall! :-P
Sweet it looks nice 👍👍
Thank you my friend!
Awesome build, dude! I like how you gave it a warm touch with the lighting, plants, & artwork...Keep up the good job!
Glad you enjoyed! Keep up the good work on your channel
what solar company on amazon currently in the market for a solar kit
Cool man, here's the link to it -- best of luck to you www.amazon.com/ECO-WORTHY-Watts-Volts-Polycrystalline-Solar/dp/B00HTSVDAM/ref=sr_1_18?ie=UTF8&qid=1494913306&sr=8-18&keywords=solar+panel
did you get a solar charger with it like the whole kit or just the panel
That link is just the panel; make sure you get your charge controller, deep cycle battery, and inverter separately

desiree johnson -- glad you enjoyed, and good luck on your build!
Nice job on the framing of the bed
Thanks, my friend!

gb box, thanks, I got them from Amazon for under $20; here's the link: www.amazon.com/dp/B01N4IAZDG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_slj2ybKJ2N5EZ
Jon Peacock nice thanks bro.
This is almost exactly what I was planning to do for my astro build. Any feedback? Do you find it functional? anything you would change?
shawn dooley -- Yeah man, it's super functional! There's nothing that I've done so far that I would change but I am going to be adding: 1) a dometic fridge 2) a swivel seat base on the passengers side seat so it can spin 3) a table that can flip out when you open the back doors (as a kitchen/cooking table). Probably will make a video about building this as well Since this video I installed some grey laminate hardwoods all throughout the van, even under the bed, and floors really make it feel more like a home. I would say nice flooring is a must if you care about having a good aesthetic. Also, really think through how tall you make your bed before you build it. When I first built this bed it was six inches higher than now. I ended up having to rebuild it to make it lower, because otherwise I was way too close to the ceiling and couldn't sit up in bed. The height I have it in the video is perfect for me now. Best of luck on your build man
Very nice work.
Glad you like it!
Nice build I'm starting mine soon (been to cold in Massachusetts) I have a 1999 Chevy Astro conversion Van Hightop and will be towing a 13 ft 1962 travel trailer for my business. I appreciate all the ideas I saw in your video!
The Nomad Sharpner -- glad you enjoyed, best of luck on your conversion!
Saw you comment over on Weston's channel (Wizard Dream), so I thought I would come check you out. Really nice build. Simple and clean. Are you going to do regular van life videos? If so, I will definitely subscribe so I can follow along. I can't get enough of these types of videos. Good luck out there👍🏽😀
Yeah, I'm definitely planning on doing lots of van videos and travel videos coming soon! Thank you, glad you enjoyed! :-)
Excellent! Great job! Nice touches of home, yet very functional.
Thanks Houdini! ;-)
Beautiful!!! Love the night lights <3
Wizard Dream dude thanks for watching - love your channel man, you inspire me!
Good job
Thank you!
Wear a headlamp have more than one. Rather than store clothes in these boxes you want to get soft sided bags to store your clothes in bags ,that way you can use them as pillows. Also I have encountered a few van /hammock examples they will set up the hammock and sleep that way so that when they are done resting they have all floor space open in a minute they are done setting up. I refuse to give up the economy of the prius thus I have to have a bed vs hammock there is not enough room for hammock in a prius.
Thanks for the input!
Cool video, thanks for sharing!
Thanks man!
looks awesome good luck with your travels
I appreciate it!
Oh and just subscribed.
Thanks man, just subbed you too, keep up the cool channel!
that's a cool van, nice and compact done, some a sweet job.
