I did it 10 or 11 years ago and I don’t think you understand why they had to individually target and CC. The reason is two fold: 1) CCs couldn’t reliably knock all 4 shadows because they formed a rectangle rather than a proper square (that was changed later for QoL so you could just knock them all at once). As a result you had to individually CC them. 2) the DPS check was actually higher relative to their gear. If the DPS check was lower then they could just CC once or twice as an AoE. Instead it’s a rotation of about 3 per add and those CCs were fairly strong. I believe on the plus side they did shrink the size of the square relative to the rectangle but coordination means you can just focus dps more than before. Your team just does two tech knockbacks plus roots which is fairly reproducible with low error rates. If you want to see how much dulfy’s group struggled just watch the 6 min mark where they mess up a CC on one add. With gear this wasn’t a dps check but dulfy and others got there with lower level gear than the instance drops (they did this in mostly HM gear). That’s rarely the case anymore. Edit: just to note you wouldn’t have 30 secs to burn the add before you died but on the same 30 sec window your DPS would need ~11K total DPS. At that time tanks and healers couldn’t deal a lot of damage (tanks did about half of what they currently do) so you would need around 2.2K from each of your dps plus everyone getting the knockbacks on an individual basis. 2.4K was extremely optimal dps from most dps specs at that time in that gear. Since you generally had closer to 20 secs the dps check was more intense than dulfy’s video makes it seem. The remainder of the dps could be made up by tanks and some healers. I was an Op healer and would do a full dps rotation plus orbital strike (back when they had orbital strike) to make the check. The game is just really different so it’s hard to compare what was harder. There are many things players have now that didn’t exist back then and some things back then that no longer exist now. It’s still a good fight and it’s still hard but I wouldn’t say it’s “harder” or more of a dps check.

We just cleared the fight yesterday. Very tough fight, especially surviving DPS race at the end with “the END” 1 time shot. Having shroud/2 cloaks on both Sin tanks is a must to survive it.

one nice thingy about Surprise Shiving, Vilus Garr is usually attacking the closest person to him with that, so you can force him to damage himself if Merc/Commando baits him into doing it since they CAN use their Reflect while stunned ;) it's not much but some extra damage never hurts :D
