Kelsey is a journalism student at Appalachian State University. Although she is originally from the bustling outskirts of Washington D.C., over the past four years she has fallen in love with this unique...

Nice mountain town w/decent people. I stayed at the Sleep in there back in February 2019. The Boone Saloon was cool (delicious nachos) as was the fare free Appalcart transit bus service.

Excellent video. You did a GREAT job showcasing so much of the town and surrounding area in under 3 minutes. It's hard to find videos of places that can combine all of that.

Sort've reminds me of buying stuff in the rougher sections of downtown Washington DC. The clerk, however, is behind bullet-proof. Still, the items are put on a carousel that spins around. Then you put your money down....

They are at the convent by their own volition. Nuns/monks feel called to a certain way of life to dedicate themselves completely to God. God bless them.

+taylorkalister why dont you Let someone from Boone tell you all about Boone nc and why its not a good idea to live there. I was born in boone in 1966 and REALLY KNOW BOONE.. the boone of today is NOT the Real Boone. it is a generic cityfied version of the real thing. let me tell you what happened to Boone and where it is headed. in the 70's 80's Boone was the BEST place to live with no walmart or Big buisness or ASU for that matter but we will get to them in a moment. 1970's. Boone was a thriving little country town that bordered Blowing rock/ Fosco-Banner elk and Mountain city Tn the whole county and surrounding survived on the tourist trade in the fall people would coem from all over to see the leaves turn and Awe at their beauty in the winter the Tourists would come to boone banner elk etc. and spend money sking on ski slopes like Ski hawksnest.Applachian /beech/etc. then there was a BIG change that came about in boone around the 1986 to 88 years and that change came in the form of wealthy people from FL/NY/NH/MA. etc came to boone and the surrounding area's and thought Id so love to buy me a home here in the mountains of boone.. and the reason why wealthy people from other states wanted to buy homes in boone and surrounding towns was because of its small quant friendly towns folk and good Ol down home feeling. well the Local real estate agencies in league with the town councils of boone and surrounding area's thought to themself here is our way to make some money. now the most a person in boone banner elk or etc would pay for a 1500 sq foot home would be close to ( if my memory serves me )$125.000 to $135.000 but when the council and others got togeather they knew that wealthy people not from here are known for paying alot fo their homes. so that 1500 sq ft home went from $125.000 to $135.000 to $400.000 to 4800.000 almost overnight. and the wealthy tourists paid for that gladly. now as the years went along more and more wealthy people not from bone bought up alot of the homes and land in the towns area and surrounding county and that which raised the housing amrket in boone up to a point where locals could not bye a home for the cost was too great for them to be able to afford. so in boone NOW today NOW.. the amount of locals from boone as in born and bred there is around 10% the rest are ASU students and wealthy people that came here because of its hospitality and home town feel. OK LETS TALK ABOUT TODAY. Boones housing market crashed awhile ago because the wealthy tourists that bought homes here woke up one day to realize the twn was full of wealthy tourists. and ASU students working in resturants. the Locals went across the NC tn line they moved to mountain city or out of watauga county for the most part. to get away from the HELL the town council and real estate market made boone to be. but things are looking up finally... those wealthy tourists moved out of boone and some abondoned their homes just to get away from the shell game that was boone nc. now that the homes are not selling. the towns profit has dropped so low they cannot hardly pay their bills. so if you are a tourist and someone from another state wanting to move to boone id advise against it for at least 10 to 15 years. because in a year or 2 boone is going to die. the town is actually going to resemble Mountain city tn. and will stay that way for 10 years. until those corrupt in boone leave to suck the money out of someone elses county and when that happens we will have the boone we know and love

Thanks for the reply but ive been living in Boone for almost 10 months and i love it here. I moved from Florida because ive lived there for almost 14 years, so i was ready to leave. Im actually looking to buy a place. The prices for the condos or houses are pretty high for my taste. I have no problems with Boone so far.

***** I was born and raised in boone nc and if I was you I would not move there if I was you.. but that's just a opinion. from someone who actually knows the place and not just a college student. which BTW only see 10% of the REAL BOONE and surrounding towns of blowing rock and banner elk

+Josh Farrington so I've lived here for over a year. Also I'm not a App Student. I love it here. If you are an outdoors person, then this is the place. I've yet to get over the views since its in the mountains. I've lived in south Florida for 14 years. Defiantly a new change in scenery.

king bibibear Ashe county Damn good cheese .. and BTW one of my favorite places when younger we use to every Friday night and Saturdays run the town drive our trucks around down to the restaurant then back around Love the people but watch that damn fog on way back to boone one time I had to place my best friend on the hood of the truck to see ahead of us but now with the DOT trying to take everyones homes the NC DOT has NO MONEY do you know where blackberry is? down blowing rock/321 mtn they took all those peoples homes ten years or more ago and to this day have not paid ANYONE for their homes.. because their BROKE. they STOLE their land there is a HUGE lawsuit against the state of NC for in fact stealing these homes .. their doing the same thing to you all in Jefferson and west Jefferson. you need to the NC dot site and see what plans they have for you all there in Jefferson they are trying or are taking peoples homes but they cannot pay for them as for the rich folk in Jefferson it is SO changed a lot I remember going to the record store there in Jefferson I remember blackfoot's tomcattin poster on the wall the store was like a cream green color if I remember great people of Jefferson and west Jefferson. but I was there not long ago and its just changed so much
