I am a thematic collector (my subject is languages), but if you or a PSLC member need any information from other fields in Brazilian philately (or have any questions on a text in the Portuguese language), it would be my pleasure to assist by reaching out to a specialist among my fellow collectors. Hi! Thanks so much for sharing this great presentation and following discussion. I am a new stamp collector in my 20s and I'd like to offer some of my perspective seeing that I grew up with the internet and did not receive stamps in the mail as a child. I don't think making stamp collecting appealing to Gen Z is a lost cause (me as proof). While I do enjoy video games, philately scratches an entirely different itch and it is a completely separate wonder to actually be able to own pieces of history and admire them in real life. If people my age were to realize this, I feel like it would be a lot more popular! Stamp collecting does not have to compete with video games, they can coexist. Personally, I was exposed to stamp collecting as a child not through the postal system, but a generous man approached my Boy Scout troop and helped me complete the stamp collecting merit badge by giving me stamps for free from his own collection. I did not pursue stamp collecting further as a kid, but the seed was planted then, and I rediscovered the hobby as an adult now. I really wish I could thank that man today and I hope that wherever he is, he knows he accomplished his mission of sharing the hobby to someone who otherwise probably would never have been exposed to it. I share this story to demonstrate that it is definitely worthwhile to present the hobby to children! I do not have a mentor in real life to help guide me, so the internet has been invaluable to learn about stamps and postal history. I have you guys to thank for this as well for uploading these presentations for guys like me to learn online. Please keep it up! Thanks for reading!

What I like about philately is that I can look at it from whichever angle I wish. I might be a collector for an entire country, or get excite different stamps around the world, topicals or cancelations, might focus on BOB or the history behind the stamps, what the stamps telling me and what was going on at the time it was designed, what is that flower/ animal I never seen before, or a country I never heard of, history of my own country is on the stamps and it is not just about stamps… post cards, sheets and others.. I can present them with designs I create on publisher I might need to search for an old language that does not even exist today to read the inscriptions on. And for my 5 year old - I don’t have a separete time from here as I work 9 hours a day and she is back before I quit and I am woth her until she is put to sleep and if this is my cycyle of life and I am trying to breath sometimes by just looking those stamps - they are art- I ask her to join and ai noticed what is appealing to her is removing stamps from paper , we wash them together and the Japanese ara better as they are colorful and very different not old same old and boring - there are animes cartoons and flowers too.. I believe the stamps can be introduced to young ones with activities at school. We do a story telling game with my daughter by picking a few from our box off paper stamps… they are great resources to trigger an interest a focus point. If the students are asked to write a paper on anything deal them some stamps to pick one and tell about it may be at the second language classes… these are my thoughts. Hope some of you who lead certain roles at clubs might be interested to put in reality by visiting schools around the clubs… 😊

Thank you much for visiting the PSLC UA-cam Channel and enjoying our videos on philately and postal history. Your comments are spot on and appreciate you sharing. And our Society is very active in the local school district in our communities, partnering with educators and offering our time, stamps, etc. in their curriculum. I also started the "Passport to Discovery" back in 2019 in partnership with the North Museum of Nature & Science here in Lancaster County, PA. We utilize stamps on the floor of the museum in activity stations, with aligns with our various exhibits (e.g., Dinosaur Exhibit and Dinosaurs on stamps, as well as Insects, Flowers, Birds, Countries, etc. ). Each young person recevied a Passport which they can mount and keep any and all stamps they want, they get their passport canceled, and they get to take it home and return at a future date for more activities. Very successful. We also partner with the Girl and Boy Scouts, giving lectures, presentations, educational sessions, etc. Wishing you well, visit our website any time at www.lcps-stamps.org Regards, Dr. Charles J. I love and collect the machins. I was so looking forward to watching this video. I found a plus and a minus. The information is very, very good. But, and no disrespect intended, the presenter does such a horrible job that I can only watch and listen for a few minutes at a time. He is very knowledgable but as i contemplate further videos from this channel, I do hope you utilize a different speaker. I'm not a great orator but this video is nearly unwatchable in spite of it's excellent information. Sorry to be so rude. Please keep up the informative videos but please change speakers.

My grandfather ran The New England Stamp Company at 81 Nassau St from about 1927 until about 1932, when he moved to Boston and ran the shop there. His first wife had died, and as a Montreal native we think perhaps he just wanted to be a little bit closer to home, but we aren't really sure. Then at some point the business suffered a downturn and he moved his second wife and their children to Boston.

I have seen fortunate to visit Mick on numerous occasions and seen "glimpses" of his vast collection. He loves to "show and tell" and this is another example of his superb eye for material and the dedication he has for the subject matter. I am fortunate that I call him my friend and fellow philatelist.

Why doesn't our APS staff that produces our monthly have a column dealing with all the Machin stuff?. Are they waiting for the Queen to die? I have always relied on Scott and I went into detail with them only as far as Scott did. I did borrow a SG from my club library and was amazed that they went into different shades on many stamps that Scott completely avoided for example on some of the earliest of GB issues. Then I looked at the Machins and flipped out. So after that I got a stockbook just for Machins and sorted by color & denom only hoping one day I would be able to make sense out of it all, Thanks for a wonderful presentation. There must be a chemical one can use(not water) to remove backing on the latest stuff without destroying the stamp. I use Lighter fluid on US and it works fine. Then you just scrap off the goo with a credit card. Thanks again for a wonderful presentation. Been a member of APS since 2017.

Hi from the UK. The SG catalogue is a great source of knowledge for the Machins, especially the differences with Phosphor bands. I have a vast collection of the Machins, I have a stock book with a small printed catalog number for each stamp, so it helps me track what I am missing. As for the self-adhesives, I have had some joy with Isopropyl alcohol in removing them from paper.
