Picking and Cooking Purple Bush Beans
Thank you for the video. My wife and I are currently starting our batch.
Hello I am about to harvest my first ever luffa garden! I heard towards the end after washing them all out (this is something I will probably have to do bc mine grew very late but very quickly but they will all still be green) so my question is, after u wash them the first time, you let them sit for atleast a day and then you wash them again and cut them wet or dry? Thank you so much for ur informative video ❤ I was looking for a video just like it and I’m so glad I found it! Greetings from a luffa grower on Long Island, NY 😊
Can I just leave it to dry for a few days before processing it?
@@jilldalton4887 you can definitely try that, you just don’t want it to start to mold and rot on the inside!
I pulled two of mine a little earlier- not green, but not ready yet either. I think I will process one of them tomorrow and see how it goes. This is so much fun!
But if you already have candles to make a candle, then, why do you need to make a candle?
@@damianmartintvvideo this will burn longer than a normal candle, and give off a small amount of heat longer.
The ideal moisture content for popcorn is between 13.5 and 14%. More or less moisture makes it VERY hard to pop.
You might need to let them dry out longer
Can you cut them into smaller pieces when green to make getting the pulp and seeds easier to get out?
@@Clrink I have never tried that, so I can’t say for sure.
Can I still follow this process if my loofahs have already started to mold on the vine
@@dlm7543 I would definitely try at least one, and see what the fibers look like inside!
OMG, I’m your 700 subscriber
Ik this is a really old video but I love it still
Hello love this video by the way I have some coturnix qauil in my incubator. and it is today 12 I think so couple more days and YIPPEE
They have hatched a couple weeks ago and 8 hatched so ye
Good job. Wow! Thank u for sharing.😊
i just harvested ours and i’m thinking of holding it over an open fire like a hotdog just to see what happens.
I loved this, it was so helpful. Lol and I use empty water containers for so many things! Mostly for food/water containers for my cats and my stray colonies, but I've even grown tomatoes in them 😂 Thanks again for this.
Awesome, simple video and straight to the point! Thanks for sharing, I just planted some and can't wait to see what comes of it. Happy 4th of July to you and yours!!
Here in the UK ive just planted 30 seeds for this. Not to eat particularly but because its unusual.
planted this for the last two years, the ears are pretty but small. I'm going to keep planting intending it for meal or flour. Turning to Peruvian Purple corn for main crop and finding an heirloom sweet corn for fresh eating. Fortunately I have enough land for planting two types at a time with space for having true seed.
It may be they were dried too much to pop
How did the berries make? Big small, ?
Do you have seeds?
I drilled a 1 inch hole in the middle of each one to put a stake in. It gets really windy here and I didnt want it to blow over.
Great explanation. Thank you : )
How did thing turn out for you?
I liked it at first, but I realized they were not good for me. They didn’t hold up well in the sun and heat, and the plants dried out way too quickly. Having a garden bed in the ground is much more practical and easy for me I have learned, but I’m glad I tried it, especially before the prices went up at Dollar Tree!
We're in zone 6, how do these do over the winter. I'm worried my strawberry plants will die 😬
That was a good hatch rate
Try spraying them with cyfluthrin. It's a non toxic pesticide. 😊
How do these smell when they burn?
Try olive oil. However, an air popper with a cloth over the bowl they seem to like. Been a long time since i had that corn. It is great for a lot including incredible corn bread. (Hate marketing) good quality nutrient dense heirloom doesn't need marketing. Never did. Also, matters how you dry the corn. That makes a huge difference.
Thank you. I thought mine would have to be trashed since freeze is coming and my loofa are still quite green. I will attempt to salvage mine now.
I have some dark spots in my dried luffa. Should I cut those out? It’s not pulp it’s a spot in the sponge. thanks!
I also live in texas and have around 30 to dry and they are green, can i still dry them outside during the days? Thank your
so glad you posted this. i almost composted what turned into a perfectly good loofa!
Cornbread?
Yes, it can be used in cornmeal recipes!
So glad I saw this because I’m going to have to harvest before they are yellow. Thank you, sweet Lady.
After I clean my green luffa out as much as possible, I throw it in the clothes dryer and all the seeds tumble out
When you dry them for 24 hours, why do you rinse them again? Also, what’s the best way to dry it? Leave it on a flat cardboard surface, baking sheet, hang it on a clothesline, how? I put mine down on the deck in plastic shoebox container and ants are all over it.
I rinse mine again just to get any little fibers/ slime off that didn’t come off the first time… sometimes there are hardly any, others will make the water look like fresh squeezed lemonade. I usually lay mine outside on a flat surface in direct sunlight… there have been a few times where it was too windy or a storm was coming, so I left them on my kitchen counter to dry. We’re your gourds whole or cleaned when ants got to them?
How long do the sponges last ypu before you feel like it needs to be composted (wash dishes)?
I am growing these for the first time and am impressed with the abundance! Our plants are not even a foot tall and have like 50 beans on each plant. How do you know when they are ready to pick? Are they like other pea/bean plants can you take the peas out of the middle and dry and replant them?
What happened?
Thanks for sharing this information with us we really love you are content Watching from Ghana 🇬🇭
Yes move and lift corn off heat you can’t just leave it to burn
Do you need to cut too off before hitting on ground
Awesome idea. With weather unpredictable it is god to have in home as well in emergency kit in vehicle. Thanks a million
What the sellers name on ebay
I am in SW FL. I love growing loofas but mine are only about 8-12” long. Questions: 1. What kind of fertilizer can I use to make my vines and loofas larger? 2. I have brown spots on my loofas. How can I make them pretty? Thank you.
I put rabbit manure and chicken bedding on mine, and that’s really the only amendment’s I add to my Luffa. Are yours getting plenty of sunshine and staying dry? I could tell a difference in mine that were in full sun as opposed to one I planted in the shade.
Yes I’m full sun. I’ll try some black cow.
Way easier to process if you dry the green ones in the oven peels much easier .
How do you dry them in the oven?
Cut ends open, put small cuts in skin, 300° for 45min
@@holeinmind thanks
Just keep in mind though that you can't use the seeds if you dry them in the oven.
Mmm sir I really really like it, mm sir me I stay in Zambia 🇿🇲 so how can I buy it from you please please sir I really like them and I need them ASAP, so sir please help me I want to buy them from you please
It seems to me, after a year and a half of gardening, that all aspects are therapeutic. The hard work of moving a lot of stones and rocks, the pitchfork work of turning compost piles, the harvesting (and snacking), and even the time spent just looking at the garden in a moment of contemplative silence, are all good for the soul. As for the idea of, "it not getting old," when you process a luffa, I find that is true of all my gardening tasks. I am truly loving it!
By the way there’s still seeds in there 😅😅
