My channel is a mixture of Science, Art, and Nature, along with some old cine film footage that dates back to the1930s, taken by my granddad. Unfortunately he added music to some of his film clips, so in order that I don’t infringe on music copyright rules, I’ve had to change some of the original audio to the best of my ability, with what I have available, as I’m no expert, I just felt it would be great to share some of these film clips with you, hope you enjoy them.

Last of the summer days in the motorhome, surfers riding big waves, calm ambient sounds of nature, it's just a perfect day, back home to wind and rain and being creative.

This really is like going back in time, in the quaint harbour streets, see how different it all looked, the fishing harbour and the old boats look a picture postcard, all in the days of wooden surfboards :)

Great video, happy days back back then. My best mate took me away on hols with his parents to Combe Martin about 1970 in the the caravan site just up the hill. We had 'chicken in the basket'. First time ever I had that and thought it was so fab. How simple things then seemed so good.
it was all the rage back in the day, chicken in the basket haha
Hi. Had all my teenage holidays in Woolacombe in the 70s. I remember we always went to a nice restaurant in Ilfracombe on the Quay. There was an old "Pong" video game on the right on the way in. I recall it as the Porthole restaurant. Still there in 1987. Anyone recall it?
The Porthole cafe is still there at Woolacombe along Marine Drive :)
@@zagacious Ilfracombe Quay I am asking about.
Love the little train.
The little train isnt going to be used anymore since a incident happened
Is it fake or is it fake?
Ilfracombe has not changed that much. Love the film.
Can anyone who lived in the 70s 80s Scarborugh and have footage from Peasholm park and the tree walk with all the lantern light up at night please post a you tube video, and Mr Marvels etc and the swimming pool next to What is now The sands. Aslo would love to see footage of the amusement arcades back in the 70s 80s.
My Great Uncle Moved his family to Poole From Harborne near Birmingham in the 50's Then my Grand Parents moved down with my Mum in the late 50's for the clean air as grandfather was gassed during ww1. Anyway my mum met my dad and married in 62. The Poole park model Railway still runs to this day as far as im currently aware. Mr Great Uncle bought and ran the Blue Lagoon in Poole where he sold boats. Long gone now i suppose. Id like to think my parents would have seen these places as shown here at around this time. Thank you for posting these lovely images of a simpler time.
Thank you for such a lovely message, my grandad may have bought a boat from your great uncle.
Its so lovely seeing the pavilion... i have never seen it and i live near there now... i have always lived in North Devon...thank you for posting
Thank you for your message :)
Thank you Wonderful, wonderful ! My favourite place in all the world ❤
Yep, I'm inclined to agree with you there, thank you for such a lovely comment :)
I visited Ilfracombe in 1965, aged nine. I was on a Sunday School holiday for a week in Woolacombe, and it was for a Sunday's evensong service. I remember very little about the trip to be honest, except the church was grey stone, and I believe there was an airfield near the raiway station. I noticed a church in the clip, and I wondered if that was indeed the church I went to all those years ago.
Thank you for your message, the medieval Church near Chivenor airfield is in Braunton, close to Woolacombe and is called St Brannock's Church, the Church in the 1970s Ilfracombe film clip is St James Church, hope this helps. There used to be a railway station in Ilfracombe and the Church near that is called the Holy Trinity Parish Church.
Sorry there is another Church in Ilfracombe down the seafront called Emmanuel Church, this was captured in the film footage you watched.
@@zagacious ok, thanks for that. From your reply I would think it was the parish church I went too, as it was walking distance from the train. It's strange how I remember so little of that week as I did enjoy it. We 'camped' in a school closed for the holidays. We looked across the open play ground straight at Lundy Island. Several trips to the beach etc. Just as a matter of interest we travelled by train from Solihull near Birmingham. Diesel hauled to Exeter St Davids, then steam to Woolacombe.
Look how clean and tidy it looks
Born and bred in Scarborough loverly town in its day. I was 5 when this was made loverly little film love it 😊
Many thanks for your kind comment 👍
It’s like watching an episode of “Look At Life” on Talking Pictures TV.😊
Sitting in a deck chair fully clothed with a blanket over your knees, warm beer and early closing. Not surprising people started going to Spain.
7:13 I was waterskiing in this lake in 1973. A friend who lived in Thirsk was a member of the club, his grandmother lived in Scarborough so we stayed with her for a few days. Happy memories 😊👍♥️🇬🇧
My grandparents live in Scarborough so I visited every summer holidays from 1955 to 1974. We swam in the South Bay pool every day and always went to Peasholm to watch the naval battles. Thank you for posting this and bringing back many happy memories.
Many thanks for your kind comment :)
Lovely…..
spent a lot of my school holidays there through the 70's at my nan & grandads, they lived above a bank where my uncle was the manager, loved fishing in rapparee cove.
Thanks for this memory, got a picture of me flying a kite on Woolacombe beach, dad didn't like Porlock hill when driving mk 1 Ford Concal.
Thank you for your comment, yes some of the early cars struggled going up Porlock hill, some were even known to reverse up :)
Many happy memories!
I'm sure after viewing his work Albert would be in his element today with modern technology, a camera drone would have been a must. Superb channel, liked and subscribed.
I remember the Mere before it silted up, a great place to go away from the hustle and bustle of the sea front for a day. There were rowing boats there, a tea room and we kids looked forward to a trip to treasure island on the pirate ship to dig for pieces of eight. A walk up Olivers Mount blew the cobwebs away. Thanks for posting, this excellent film brings back such happy childhood memories from before the World went mad.
It was great back in 1966. The 'Combe has a fascinating history and was once only second to Brighton for seaside holidays. Peter Sellers started off at that pavilion. Barnstaple - once a lovely market town now unrecognisable and ruined by meddlers - grabbed all the investment. Ilfracombe's most popular attraction is now Wetherspoons, and the powers-that-be seem totally clueless and disinterested in the town. The ideal holiday in North Devon is spent travelling around the coast, not Ilfracombe.
Of Interest?! 👍!
Very nice videos, love it!
Thank you so much I really appreciate your kind comment :)
This was the year before I was born ,I was born in ilfracombe ,and finally came "came back home 9 yrs ago ,always have been a coastal girl ,and in the 1970 s ilfracombe was North devons answer to Blackpool, thankyou for this ,it was very interesting ,
Thank you so much for your lovely comment, most appreciated :)
Looks really cool place there great video looks like you are having fun 👍👍👍👍👌💜
Thank you so much for your kind comments, it is beautiful in North Devon and Cornwall, I love the adventures exploring in the camper van to visit new locations :) I don't know any other friends who go caravanning or camper-vanning so it was lovely to receive a message from your good self :)
That is not Surfers Paradise
oooh I bet it is to the guys surfing haha, definitely a paradise down at Woolacombe, it's beautiful there :)
Doesn't look much like Ilfracombe in Outback Queensland!
Great to see the Corana and the 2 ladys running out of the harbour .Had many trips on them in 50/60"s
Wow 😮
I grew up in North Devon, worked in Woolacombe's Narrocott Grand, Saunton Sands Hotel, and dated a lad in Ilfracombe all in the 1970's - what a great video! I remember also you could visit Clovelly for free - I left to go in search for the bright lights, change the horse for a car.... I still go back to visit my family, and, wished I never left! I often used to go to Ilfacombe with my dad, so seeing the gardens, and the Pavilion where magical, he also used to race the train going along to Ilfracombe from Barnstaple - it reminded me of how much freedom I had then.... well done!
What a lovely message, thank you for that, yes Ilfracombe is a beautiful place, sadly there's no longer a train running from Ilfracombe to Barnstaple, a factory in place of the train station, but you're right, always was magical here in the 70s, and still is in many ways :)
Helicopter
a totally silent helicopter as it wasn't making a sound. All small helicopters have two red lights on them so you can tell it's a helicopter from the ground at night, this was a ball of light.
Thanks, has a regular visitor to Ilfracombe since 1993 - I had never seen the pavilion building. Always wondered what it looked like - also first time seeing the large hotel that was replaced with the theatre. I do wish there was more investment in Ilfracombe. There is so much that could be done here to improve the local economy. That last time I remember any investment was the Wetherspoons pub that replaced the other large hotel on the front. A shame the ferry port never materialised as I think that might have done the trick.
I agree more should be invested in Ilfracombe. I love the place. It doesn't "die" in the winter, as do many seaside towns.
Spy balloon ?
wonder what they're spying on in Ilfracombe :)
An interesting look at life in England before the Islamic takeover. Gone forever now.
Things have inevitably changed in 56 years, but where's the 'Islamic takeover'?

Thank you for that :)
Just love these old Films, very Rare to see somebody of Colour!!? What went wrong? Also Hand cranked Petrol Pumps!! Brilliant
I loved the hand cranked petrol pumps!
great film! More More!!
Thank you for posting this. It brought back so fond memories of our many holidays in Scarborough when I was a child. I remember trips on Coronia and the Naval battles at Peasholme Park. I believe the Tree Walk was in operation by 1963 also and you can catch a glimpse of the Pagoda at 7:12. Other memories include whiling away rainy days in Jimmy Corrigans amusement arcade and Fish and Chips at Bamfords which is now back in family ownership!
Thank you so much for your feedback, I'm really glad you enjoyed it.
Stunning scenery and beautiful colours ❤

Thank you again for your kind comments, haha, not sure about talented, but do need to be patient as they take a while to paint, I'm not good at landscapes but better at portraits :) it's like learning anything it just takes a lot of practise :) I'm still learning :)
Definitely talented. Hope to see more paintings 😀😀
