A New Take on How to Achieve Your Goals
In this video, I share a new take on how to achieve your goals. To achieve your goals, you'll need to follow a process that will help guide you toward your desired outcome. A new take on achieving your goals is a quick video on the method I use to achieve. In more recent years, goals have been augmented by the concept of systems. The problem with systems, though, is that you need some prior knowledge about the subject to be effective. In this video, I share how to use competencies and best practices to augment your systems and goals.

Here's My Take: What To Do About Thieves
Awesome video. Analog Knowledge Dev > PKM. ✍🏻🗃️🚀
The "extra work" you are talking about, is what will actually create the insight. You want conversation to start within the cards, that is the voice in the box.
This is a great perspective. I’ve grappled with some of these ideas lately and ended up moving my Zettelkasten back to the digital realm. But with one key difference-I didn’t choose the Obsidian route. Instead, I opted for Scrivener to keep the focus on writing and output. I also chose to forego ChatGPT for insight generation (it brings too much baggage with it) and opted instead for Notebooklm, as it constrains its results to my notes themselves. Lastly, I still write my cards in analog fashion as an exercise in neuroimprinting, but care not about filing in the real world.
For example, here are a few ideas on what to pursue next after a few minutes tinkering with both your video and my comment: RELATED IDEAS (Note) The original passage provides a concise summary of two different approaches to adapting the Zettelkasten method for better insight generation. Here are some related facts and ideas from the source material that can expand on and enhance the concepts: - Dissatisfaction with "Accidental" Insights: The first source emphasizes the speaker's frustration with the traditional Zettelkasten's reliance on "stumbling upon" insights during review. He explicitly states, "I don't stumble upon across an a card that I forgot I put in there and at the same time it generates this Insight ... it doesn't generate the kind of insight that I want it to generate." This highlights a key motivation for seeking out new methods: the desire for a more proactive and deliberate approach to insight generation. - ChatGPT as a Learning Accelerator: The first source positions ChatGPT not just as an answer provider but as a tool to "decrease your learning curve." The speaker argues that ChatGPT's ability to provide direct answers, compared to sifting through search engine results, streamlines the research process and allows for faster exploration of ideas. This efficiency is what makes it valuable for his adapted Zettelkasten workflow. - “Baggage" of External Information: Alberto, in the second source, expresses concern about ChatGPT's reliance on external data. He prefers NotebookLM because it limits its analysis to his own notes. This introduces the idea that purity of source material might be a consideration for some Zettelkasten users. Some value insights generated solely from their own thoughts and connections, while others are more open to external influences. - Scrivener's Emphasis on Output: Alberto's choice of Scrivener over Obsidian sheds light on the diverse goals people have for using the Zettelkasten method. While Obsidian is lauded for its flexibility and linking capabilities, Scrivener is specifically designed to support writing projects. This difference aligns with Alberto's prioritization of writing and content creation as his primary outcome. These additional points offer a more nuanced understanding of the motivations, concerns, and priorities that shape how individuals adapt the Zettelkasten method to their needs and goals.

A recommendation for everybody who is going to start a Zettelkasten. Don't blindly follow anyone's advice. Read. Scott Scheper's book, read Sönke Ahrens' book and especially read Luhmann's Zettelkasten paper!!! Then start thinking and answer these questions: 1. What do you want to achieve? 2. What is the intention of your Zettelkasten? 3. How can you achieve it the easiest way? Then adjust your Zettelkasten to these needs. What do I mean? I started my Zettelkasten from the perspective of a natural scientist. As such, I need to validate each and every idea and thought I have. Thus, I started my Zettelkasten with atomic notes taken from publications relevant to my field. My goal was to have smart notes to re-capitulate what's in a publication I've read. Thus, I took every note very seriously from the publication without adding own ideas. However, I sometimes shuffled the order of the cards to make the contents more digestable for me. Moreover, I linked every note to potentially many other notes that fit to the idea on a card. And last but not least, I added own ideas thtat usually interconnect many cards (and thus many publications). That way my net has grown and nowadays if I want to write a literature review I just need to read a few new papers, add it to my Zettelkasten and I have tons of related topics that fit to the idea of the paper I'm going to write.
If I was a Generator, I’d jump and scream my thanks to you for this video. But as a Projector, I’m sending you a wave of focused appreciation 🙏 The part about needing people in order to be successful was so helpful to hear. Thank you so much for this video.
You're welcome.

I took the silva course. If its an ongoing visualization like healing something..do you imagine the bad scenario always in each session or only the 1st time you do it and then never again when you keep doing it daily?
I still imagine the bad, but I incorporate any improvements or progress in the first screen if it is an ongoing visualization.
A good advice: Don't follow Schott Scheper or someone else's advice on the Zettelkasten. Just read what Luhmann wrote about his Zettelkasten. Ask yourself instead what you want to achieve with your Zettelkasten. Then write down some rules and apply it! For instance, I'm a scientific researcher and my goal was to have a broad foundation of knowledge and to connect my own ideas with this net of knowledge (ground truth). Thus, I started to subset every paper into a varying number of atomic notes. Every note is connected to the previous note(s). That way I will have a "ground truth" net within which I can exactly reconstruct from which paper it came and I can even fastly re-read the paper by following the links. Moreover, I then connected notes between different papers (usually with personal notes/ideas) and finally came up with a writing machine. Whenever I want to write on a topic in my field, I just have to go back to the Zettelkasten and grab some ideas that fit my intent and can tell interesting stories (e.g. writing up a review artcle). It alo helped me to create some kind of verification machine. Why? Because if I have a new idea and it doesn't fit to "nearby" notes, I can see instanty whether there is a logical error in my lines of thought.
I've used this system for about six months now. I've become proficient in the fundamentals and have begun incorporating some insights of my own like an Apprentice turned Master (not quite a master yet). When I started, I needed clarification on my purpose, but clarity increased by using it, so following Scott's system to get the ball rolling helped. Thanks for contributing your insights.
@@_heresmytake Sounds good. Am looking for more or your videos! Just want to warn you and others that there are more than just 1 way and that you don't have to pay money to achieve your goals!
Thanks for sharing your take. I am going to honest. I don’t have time to read Scott’s 600 page book and I really didn’t understand his videos. After watching your video and another anti net zettlekastan , it is much clearer. I am new to this system and I am not quite convinced that analog is best for me. I am looking to combine.
No problem! I combine analog and digitial, but I only go as far as using Zotero for digitial. I hope you can find the system that works for you.
I bought Scott’s book and honestly I wouldn’t recommend it anyway. It is BLOATED, especially if you’re already sold on building one and just want how.
@@stormchaser9738This is what I suspected. Other than the card system, I’m pretty sure that I already use something similar to this system, only I use the margins of what ever I’m reading and lots of highlighting, underlining, circling, etc, and also the index in the back. I mostly study the Bible. I use a wide margin KJV as my main Bible. I use other versions, commentaries, dictionaries, lexicons, etc. Like you, I don’t have time to read a 600 page book about it. I read slowly and methodically to digest the content. It would take me forever to read that book and would take time away from my Bible study. Thanks for the input!!
Very informative and very insightful! Thanks for your video!
Hey man, I’ve been thinking about this topic a lot recently-how to adapt the antinet to study the Bible. In a way, it reminds me of Jonathan Edwards’ miscellany journal, if you’re familiar. Thanks for your video, you’ve got a lot of helpful ideas in here!

Terrific explanation. Through the years I wrote notes in hundreds of books and papers, and worse, wrote on post-it’s and stuck them on certain pages in my books- all with insights about each work, but all disconnected from each other and physically dispersed in my library. I tried to remedy that with digital Zettelkasten but I retain more information by physically writing out my notes, going “old school” analog. So, where do the Bib cards line up with the major index (major disciplines) and individual note cards (each one idea or insight per note card) crossed-referenced with the major disciplines and sub disciplines? Thanks again!
There are three separate sections in the Anti-Zettelkasten, Main Box or Main Cards, Index, and Bib box. We use bib cards to extract salient information from the material we read. It acts like a table of contents for ideas we might want to turn into a main card and need to relocate later. Index cards are used to capture the numeric alpha location of the main card. There are two types of index cards: Alphabetical and Keyword. Once you determine which section your main card will be placed and you have given it a number you record that in your index so that you can find that card later, especially as your Zettalkasten grows. When you create a main card, think beforehand about where it should be placed, i.e which disicipline/subdiscipline and behind which card that is most like it unless it is the first card in the category. Hope this helps. Let me know if I explained your question. Thanks!
Great job! Thanks for your hands on introduction by explaining your Zettlelkasten system. I finally get it! Good luck with your doctoral work.
Notation 1000=humanities etc. Does this come from a pre-existing system? If so, what are you using? I get that the A - Z is for bibliographic information. The second group pof cards is totally content related. So the indexing system has to embrace both the bibliographic reference and the content reference.
The system is based on the academic disciplines: Arts and Humanities, Social Science, Natural Sciences, Formal Sciences, and Applied Sciences. These broad areas will encompass any knowledge that we acquire. Wikipedia breaks down the subdisciplines in each. For example, under applied science (5000), it could be business or business ethics, and the numeric-alpha code would be arbitrary, like 5120. Regarding the index, I don't include my bibliographic card information on my index because I cite the source as a shortened footnote at the bottom of the main card in red ink. From there, I know which bib card to pull because I also link all of my sources to Zotero with the same shortened reference as a tag. Let me know if this answers your question.
@@_heresmytake Thanks, I have zotero. I wanted to stay analog if possible. that makes sense. I'll cross reference it with Kathleen Sprackler's system. It's not a factual content project, so my needs are quite specific. But that clarified that aspect and was helpful. Thanks.
You’ll fall in love with the zettelkasten. It’s truly a generative tool. I’d recommend that you look at Kathleen Spracklen’s videos. Since you’re just getting started, she will be really helpful to you. And her numbering system is excellent. Scott’s is unduly complicated. She blurbed the front of Scott’s book but she does things a little more intuitively.
Good explanation. I highlight for the same reason. I don’t want to have to read a bunch of material when I’m going back to create a card for the main Antinet/Zettelkasten box. Steve doesn’t give the “laws of Antinet,” he just explains why he does things a certain way. Then we can choose. We are all different and our brains will work different ways. So there’s no right and wrong. As the kids say these days, “You do you.” 😊
Great info, just the music 😩

You seem to have manipulated the scriptures. None of the scriptures you read dealt with local church bodies. Also, how can you say someone should be giving MORE than 10% when Paul instructed to give as according to one's own heart? That could be 1% or 100%.
Thanks for your comment. It is never my intention to manipulate Scripture. Firstly, the Scriptures I cited are dealing with local bodies. The Church of Corinth and The Church of Ephesus were local churches. Secondly, I'm stating that God may be asking for more than 10% because I've found people attempting to deny that they should financially support their churches because tithing is OT. My point is that NT giving is based on the generosity of the heart, and it is a way to prove our trust in God and show our gratitude, thereby potentially requiring us to give more than the standard 10%. It doesn't mean they are required to, but potentially, if that's what they believe their faith requires. Whatever is not of faith is a sin.
@@_heresmytake in your video you made bold claims saying that we SHOULD be giving to a local church more than 10%. Also, Corinth and Ephesus were cities. 1 Corinthians 9:7 says "Who ever serves as a soldier at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat the fruit of it? Who shepherds a flock and does not drink from the milk of the flock?" The context of Paul's letter to the CHURCH at Corinth was that he and others like Barnabas should be financially cared for whenever they are there ministering, as everyone else who ministers there. It's the same concept that Jesus spoke of when he told this to the disciples in Matthew 10:10-15: "10 Do not take a traveler’s bag for the road, or two tunics, or sandals, or a staff, for the worker is deserving of his provisions. 11 And into whatever town or village you enter, inquire who in it is worthy, and stay there until you depart. 12 And when you* enter into the house, greet it. 13 And if the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it, but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. 14 And whoever does not welcome you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet as you* are going out of that house or that town. 15 Truly I say to you, it will be more bearable for the region of Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town!" What we have today in western culture (neighborhood and community churches where people get to choose where they attend according to the styles that most likely connect with) is not what I believe Jesus or Paul was envisioning. We first have to get past the manipulation that draws people to these "churches" today and find out if the church truly is ministering and serving those who attend or if it's just another guy who sounds like they know scripture and "starts" a new church, or dare I say business. Once you get past that, it must be determined if the "pastor" is actually pastoring or just giving people what they want to hear, what upsets the pastor at any given time about trivial things such as attendance, or if they are actually speaking through the Spirit and intimately involved in the ongoings of that church community the way Paul, Peter, Timothy and others were in scripture. My point is that it's not just black and white as "give to your local church" when that statement has so many false meanings and interpretations.
@@carltontriplett4947 I think I addressed why I made the statement about giving more than 10%. First-century churches were known by their cities. However, they were still considered local churches. In my video, I stated that if a parishioner expected foul play from their leadership, they could opt out of attending that church. Still, if that is their place of fellowship, they are responsible for supporting it financially.
One of the best argued points of view about this tricky subject that I’ve yet heard. Thank you.
Thank you for watching. Be blessed.
Some good points. Today's version of tithing from earned wages carries no biblical precedent so it can't be seen as an act of biblical obedience but, yes, we should support our local church, other ministries and charities financially and/or otherwise but we're free to give, not bound to pay. The story of the widow's mite is sandwiched between scriptures that talk about the corruption of Pharisees. Jesus was chastising the Pharisees and used the poor woman presenting the widows mite as an example of how the poor were exploited in many cases.
Mark, thanks for ‘Your Take’ albeit biblical! It is enlightening.
