    My dear, why would you move more if it doesn't come naturally? No need for that. In the old days being in good(!) orchestra, it wasn't even allowed to move. It is pretty restless to watch and it takes away your energy. But if this is the modern teaching, that go for it. Good Luck! I bet you are a good student🙂

    I've digitized my (smaller) artworks and writings to be able to keep them as memories but not as physical clutter. my favorites, i DO keep in a designated folder in a filing cabinet. Papers are def the hardest thing to keep organized. I also have an ABUNDANCE of art supplies that is ever growing (hello hyperfixations!)

    i appreciate your video and that you share it took you six months for this process, I used to think that I needed to do it all in one or two days which is super stressful for me and I ended up procrastinating about decluttering. Thank you for sharing your journey, it inspires me to be more mindful to declutter often!

    I'm at the same stage as you, but I've juist started a s a geriatric (I'm 76). You've summed up all the pitfalls, failures and successes in this journey. But we overcome them if we stick with it, don't we! Latest challenge is the right hand positioning, but I've just bought a thumb rest, my positioning is far better, I now avoid touching the trill keys, and the squeeks have disappeared.

    It really hurts to see how much these things have effected you. I hope you can somehow find piece with this and know that the teacher really shouldn't have done that. On a more positive note I have and love that tarot deck ♥️ I'm so proud of what you have achieved so far and I'm here if you ever need to talk. 🥰

    also your teacher is first off an ass ...but also just a human , and what i mean by that , is that , it could seem that she knows something , but she doesn't ... bad teachers will blame the student instead of admitting they aren't capable to teaching ...not all people learn quickly or easily ..thats the whole point of the teacher , to be able to teach them , it easy to teach someone who is quick to learn .. like hora ! you can do what a teenager doing a presentation can do ..

    As you get older, things accumulate the longer you live at one location, so it is good to look at your things and reduce what you don't need. Part of it is making a box or two for memories and thinking about what is special enough to add to it. I am 41 years old living on my own in a condo and I like to organize things every month to remember what I have and to throw away/recycle/donate whatever is not practical for me. My dad is a hoarder and that has made me more aware of my environment and my need to be tidy where everything has its place. I do get clutter, but it's not too bad to deal with. I think you are doing a great job building a habit where your surroundings won't stress you out (especially if you have to move).

    Seeing your heartbreak over learning Japanese, I hope you are one day able to approach it again and keep going. There are many people who should never become educators or leaders; bullying and belittling anyone in the learning process is unacceptable , in my opinion. Those are the kind of people with a power complex. The way you were treated is not a reflection of your ability or self-worth, it is a reflection of that person’s own shortcomings and motivations. Educators should nurture and uplift their students, always. Anyone can learn anything they put their mind to. Curiosity is a gift. 🩷

      thank you so much for your comment 🤍 I’m definitely healing from it more now especially after getting rid of all the physical stuff that held bad memories for me! i’ve had some amazing educators and some who probably had a bit of a power complex as you say ahaha :) i think learning is such a gift and i hope it can be joyful for me in the future ! thank you for being so kind ! have a great day :)

    Sometimes the very best gift you can give to yourself is the freedom of letting go of those negative memories, such as from language learning. Those notes (if they were the ones in question ) might be “useful” if you were to pick it up again, but not if they remind you of embarrassment, shame, judgment, failure. Letting go of them and starting with a fresh slate, welcoming back your initial love, without the association to those comments and the academic pressure, is such a wonderful gift. It took me years to adjust to that mode of thinking, but it’s been hugely freeing. In fact, I’m still struggling… WAY too long after flunking my post secondary passion… to reconnect with that passion without those associated feelings. But ditching the physical symbols of that time was cathartic once I’d done it. Great job carving out a new and fresh path forward! (Btw, I had no idea that Layton book existed! I need to look into it!! Is it an art book?? 👀)

    • @ivanfurber
      @ivanfurber 3 місяці тому

      you’re so right! holding onto stuff that actually represents something really negative prevents us from moving forward or from starting fresh :) i definitely felt so much better and more inspired to learn again after getting rid of them! it was like they were telling me how much i “should” know or how much time i had “wasted” but now i feel so much freer from that negative way of thinking about it. and yes! it’s an art book called the world of professor layton, it’s also got lots of stuff like interviews, storyboards, concept art etc :) i was lucky enough that i bought it right when it came out but i think its pretty hard to come by these days but if u do end up looking for it i wish you luck! i do love the book :)

    "Ramblings of a brainwashed person in defence of the 9-5" 😭 lol But I agree. I find work easier/less stressful in a sense it doesn't follow you home unlike school. Of course, sometimes I can't turn my brain off and I keep thinking about work related things (I'm a software engineer) on my free time, but I don't technically HAVE to do that. It's not as stressful as education. There is more freetime.

    • @ivanfurber
      @ivanfurber 3 місяці тому

      yeah i just find being a not work-from-home employee suits me so well lmao because it just forces a bit of balance 🥲 in education there’s always the sense that you could be doing more, after all you can never literally learn every single thing about a subject so there’s always potentially more you could be doing. at least with work it’s like well i cannot do my job when i’m not physically in the building ! so eventually you learn that your free time is actually free for you to use how you please and you don’t have to be “doing something productive” (whatever that means) every hour god sends !!

    I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone put into words the difficulties of education I have experienced myself. I am currently wrapping up my masters degree and proof reading my dissertation after a big gap after my undergrad. I’m 28 and sobbing like a little girl because it’s been gruelling. I got good marks during my module work but felt really unsupported during disso. I’m not even sure I’m better at my career path after it all. I hate how education ruins the joy of learning. Give it another go if it’s something you’d want to try and find a tutor who is supportive :)

    • @ivanfurber

      thank you for your comment and i’m sorry that you could relate! I really hate the way the education system is set up as it as you say really ruins the joy of learning. i can’t wait to be free of it again next year 🥲 i definitely would love to carry on learning (anything) tho after i graduate hopefully with evening classes or a tutor in something if i can afford to do so :) learning is such an amazing thing i just wish the education system didn’t literally destroy any interests we have as children 🥲 good luck with your dissertation !

    I’m gonna save this video as a reference for a loved one. They have a lot of trouble with hoarding and putting too much value on unreasonable things. In the past I had to help them clean their room, however I’ve then had to come to the realisation that it won’t help them. They go back to their old ways, and one of the more frustrating things was the things they kept. They kept actual trash. For some reason their depression room, full of hoarded stuff annoyed me, but now I’ve noticed that I was actually upset at myself. Because Im technically in the same position, if you look at me as a different person. I’m startimg to also change my ways, and you really will start to heal from past things and be happier and feel more organized. Also: I had Japan as a special interest for years, it has toned down (but its like animal crossing: i see it, i feel good). I started to learn japanese in different ways and can comfortably say that im absolutely terrible at it. But im having fun keeping my streak in duolingo (95 days as of now), and when i hit the これ / それ part, my face lit up because i recognised it and felt like i actually am starting to learn. I did try learning all the basic n5 kanjis (i believe there are 95?) but i dont remember them. I feel like i need to let go of the pressure and just enjoy the slow process.

    Those teacher's comments were horrible. As someone who has never even thought of teaching and ended up with a language school and 140 students, I always encourage the joy as I want my students to have a different experience to what I had at achool (it was exactly the one like yours) and here in France it is also the same to my comprehension when we talk to our students, very academic, rigid and critical. I had the best results for both English and French learning when moving abroad or when finding native speakers/private teachers to talk to. You crying breaks my heart. Don't let a harsh person to stop you from your passion for Japanese. Love. Katerina
