In 2019 our team was a little bit surprised because in August we welcomed our first patient from Australia. He came to our center after a serious car accident in 2016, that held him in bed for almost 30 months.
Because of the heavy head injury, he was not able to sit or to stand, and he was using an electric wheelchair in his every day activities. At home, he had two assistants to help him with the activities of daily leaving. But he had a great asset, his mother Natalia, who is a professor of medicine. She was sure that her son will walk again, and she never stopped believing in this.
The government of Australia was negative with Natalia's thoughts and willingness to see her son walking again. They strongly believed that she must not give wrong hopes to her son and that she should focus on making his life easier with external assistance. But she was searching a way to see her dream come true.
So she found our center in Greece far far away. The journey to Greece was a very difficult trip, it last more than 20 hours with three different planes Australia - Dubai - Athens - Thessaloniki. Fortunately they did it and they came here to Thessaloniki - Evexia Rehabilitation center.
Doctor Stefas Eleftherios was patient's head physician during his stay, the clinical condition that he met in combination with the willingness of his mother made him believe that we could change the quality of patient's life. We prescribed a totally individualized rehabilitation program, with robotics, electro stimulation therapy, virtual reality and hydrotherapy. It took time but after 90 days we saw his first steps with no help from our team in the pool.
The happiness of his mother was a motivation for whole our team. We have the experience and the knowledge to help people recover. Our goal is to be a point of reference in acute phase rehabilitation worldwide.
