had this just happen with a catfish. he broke the line at the reel so you would see a bobber come up every so often. we got on some kayaks and after a hour or so got that cat in

Chances are a fish kept out of water for that long (which suffocates them) won't live. They might look okay when you toss them back in, but between the lactic acid buildup from the fight and the lack of oxygen will make him a 'floater' in a short time.
