The Fall, "So What About It?", track 1 from the album Shift-Work (1991)

One of the very few Fall tracks not on UA-cam, so lack remedied. Written by Funky Si Wolstencroft, with Craig Scanlon adding guitar, and Mark E Smith contributing the lyrics.

As Lou says at 10:55, they played live on TV the following day: ua-cam.com/video/loqZGDo8Te4/v-deo.html I transferred the cassette sides in reverse order, so this is second half first and first half second. Was going to fix it, but decided I liked it better this way. Correct setlist order is posted online here: www.concertarchives.org/concerts/sebadoh 4295912 If you want to listen in that order...

Recorded on a cassette walkman with the mic molded into the body of the player, so it picks up the motor noise when the auto-level comes up bw the songs and the S/N ratio hisses like a cut snake. The signal hit the tape so hard that it's completely saturated so hot the VU meters are permanently parked at 6bB. Hot as a stolen car. Worst recording I ever made. Best recording I ever made. Just 200 years ago the spot that you are standing on grew a tree that housed the beasts and shone in the eternal sun. Someone came to have a look, wrote it all down in a big book, came the day they said okay let's fill it up with theives and crooks. Sons of theives and crooked men do not understand what they've done, they bless themselves with monuments and disregard inhabitants. We're sorry we...

Every morning as I wake I move gently so as not to break Because it's fragile, so fragile. And as I lay my head I remember the word I said It's fragile, so fragile. As I walk around one thing that I have found It is fagile, so fragile And every step I take it says be careful of the moves you make Cause it's fragile, so fragile C'mon and pick me up, give my life a reason You, you pick me up like that warm fresh summer breezing through my hair Sometimes it's so good to know that you're there. Everything you do, it's going to have its effect on you, Cause it's fragile, so fragile And everything I see sure has it's effect on me Cause it's fragile, so fragile. C'mon and pick me up, give my life a reason You, you pick me up like that warm fresh summer breezing through my hair Sometimes it's so good to know that you're there.
Amazing. Thank you
The Story of Strewth Peter 1410pm 14.8.23 proto neutral milk hotel?
Haus der Lüge + Halber Mensch = Einstürzende Neubauten at ATP Melbourne, Australia 2013. it's had it's day. though i am not adverse to a little old timey rant from the red and black of Neubauten...anyhow; i did think i would find some musings re: Lovecraft on you channel. has it been hastily contrived by another? bang clank cling clang. etc etc...
Tomato - Live @CBGB#4 aka "Lonely Boots of Leather" 1359pm 14.8.23 these boots are made for walking... sudden? wow... i dont live there anymore... she could have told you that...
Tomato -- Jam Zero Plus One 1357pm 14.8.23 what did you come up with - tom-hate-o? after all this poison i was feelin' slightly ill as they failed to recognise i would be suffering from a bout of tom tits. hence exist stage left pretty damn quick!!!
Tomato -- Jam Zero (aka Good Thinking) 1356pm 14.8.23 all summed up with the image of the medieval gal throwing her stole water at the musical discordant dregs she was forced to listen to...
The Kind -- Shambles 1350pm 14.8.23 guess the street? probably in Prestwich (old village...) if yer dad's a brickie he will have told you were a lot of locales are situated...
I improvised the lyrics about one Hopetoun Ave where I lived at the time in Strailya. When I did the upload, I just googled "old couches an mattresses an shit on the street" to get an image. If it's Preswich then I'll be a monkey's uncle. It's close enough to Macclesfield, where my gravestone is.
@@davidrathbone4029 The Kind -- Shambles 0731am 17.8.23 wow spooky reply... you talkin' about the gravestone of his nibs from joy division? never visted it. been to Macclesfield, though. the town of the Moffats. i was taught by a Moffat at school.. i thought image is kindda prestwich or sudden looking. i have no idea where strailya is... australia? i think australia just lost to england women at football.
@@JJONNYREPP No, I do mean me, tho yes I.Curtis is buried there too. But there's also a stone there from the 17thC with my name on it -- a distant ancestor in so-called reality, but a namesake's nothing to sneeze at. And begyours, yes, Strailya is AU-stralia, but them shielas were playing soccer, not football. And I say good on em for losing, much better for the soul. Probly a kicker conspiracy anyway... In my mind I was singing on behalf of every homeless person in the world. So much of the so called west looks like this now, like detroit and baltimore and probly half of Manchester: the shambles is infiltrating every city somewhere. Actually I just noticed - is someone crouching under the couch?
@@davidrathbone4029 The Kind -- Shambles 0817am 17.8.23 urrrgghhhh... fall jokes are the worst jokes. Sheilas? never met any. i am sure they taste much better in Australia. UK Sheilas might win something. we hope. soccer? football? who cares.... we know what we mean. as, i am sure, do they. i am currently watching a euro max skit re: the top 5 holiday destinations. UK came in.........................................................................5th. which means last. which is another drab indictment on the pom and his proclivity for purposely losing as winning is far too embarrassing and far too much of a fiasco for the old ticker and innate sensibilities to take. france came in first place for holidaying. decent bread but that's about it. incidentally, i make a decent loaf. but am not french. thank efff, eh?

The Kind -- Cover of Failures of the Modern Man 1346pm 14.8.23 you got some over utilized low-fi going on there, sir... are all your compositions covered based on spectre vs rector? sounds like that guy from that other band from america... i was expecting some song about crazy dan via scratch acid..
Actually it's the auto-volume level on the truly crappy walkman I used to make this recording. I acually happened to be in america (boston) when I recorded this, so prob yeah that guy had his fluences upon me. And yes, my life in general is based on spectre vs rector. My faith is in the spectre. Beware of expectations. Last orders, Dan.
@@davidrathbone4029 The Kind -- Cover of Failures of the Modern Man 0716pm 17.8.23 these are the words of expectations. beware the words of expectorants... i was thinking. said it before, though: the best song by far, under the influxes of the influence is: words of expectation. the live version as opposed to the peel session recording. as for lo-fi recording techniques... go figure. it was a big boon some time back to strip it all down and find some virtue - whether smugly self-satisfied virtue or generic look...listen what i just done!!! schtick - of the low-fi endeavour... dolomite or the grifters, even, dallied with that kindda caper. the life of a bostonian. ummmmm... all i know is: greasy pole walkers competition.... i watched that live on you tube. i was gettin' right into it. kindda appealed to my simpleton-ness. watch it's a knockout for a full resume of where i'm at. it's a knock out is on you tube.... somewhere. yeah, i liked the idea of the spectre reeking some revenge (sic). i mean, akin to old timey horror movies, if those meddlin' kids or crummy scientific boffins hadn't have meddled where they shouldn't etc etc etc etc... crazy dan (was the man)... scratch acid song. like it. you can also discern the studio aspect to spectre vs rector as against the low-fi live aspect of the recording as recorded live somewhere in a disused warehouse... i'd love to know which factory they recorded in... i think i met steve hanley and forgot to ask. the spectre vs rector song as exemplified in the nice lp cover of spider and butterfly. which creature good which bad...? as simple as it gets, really.
@@JJONNYREPP Church of the Specter: ua-cam.com/video/ul5pLGEnDEI/v-deo.html Words of Expectation is indeed up there with the greatest of the great, but by the live version do you mean: ua-cam.com/video/-fSh_SnLLMA/v-deo.html or ua-cam.com/video/1Yd_mpaDu6U/v-deo.html ? And speaking of the greatest of the greats, exactly: ua-cam.com/video/4YHONGUFMI0/v-deo.html As for where that old warehouse SvR was recorded in, SteveH would probly still remember. Have you heard the House of All? ua-cam.com/video/SQjbpfFd5cs/v-deo.html They're great but I wish they had Karl drumming as well. And Tommy Crooks on 3rd guitar. и "Kiss Alive" 👍👍👍
[English translation] "Amazing concert! Great band, I've been following it since 1994, when I bought "Venus Luxury...." in Moscow In general, the fresh energy of this live performance somehow does not fit with the rather insipid "80 vs 90" and "Tropic .... Is that sounds from the cables? Sounds like steel drums or a marimba 💛
You're close Walter: it's a combination of a ceramic drum turned upside down with the mic being scraped around the edge of the end without the skin, and metal mesh on the front of the heater on the wall of RB headquarters on Ludlow Street.
Interesting video David, more so seeing the Telecaster in the background! The use of a pickup as a demagnetising tool, and the fact that you are demonstrating (auditioning) a Revox a77 which to me looks like a a77 mklll which just happens to be my latest acquisition!!! First challenge for me is the recap project. That Spyro Gyra track is a great tune to demonstrate the capabilities of the a77. Good work. Where in Oz are you? I am in WA.
Thanks for the questions Roy. Have made a vid of the Tele for you. And yes the Revox is an A77 Mk III (with the illuminated VU meters). Good luck with the recap, it'll take a bit of patience. There's a pdf of the full service manual online if you don't have it - it's quite a document, incredible detail: elektrotanya.com/revox_a77.pdf/download.html
