Change Your Life – One Tiny Step at a Time
If you are like most people, there is a gap between the person you are and the person you wish to be. There are little things you think you should do and big things you ought to achieve.
From working out regularly, eating healthy, learning a language, working on your novel, reading more or simply actually doing your hobby instead of browsing reddit.
But it can seem that to achieve your goals, you have to become a different person. Someone who is consistent, puts in more effort, has discipline and willpower. Maybe you have tried your hardest to be like that. And it worked! For a while. Until you find yourself slipping back into your old ways. In the end, you always seem to fail. And with every failed attempt, you become more and more frustrated and annoyed with yourself.
If you believe “success and hustle” internet, it is all your own fault: if you don't succeed, you just didn’t want it enough and the failure is all you. But change is actually hard. But as with most things in life, understanding why makes things easier.

    Yep! She's correct on the clothing. Probably correct on the "time is money." I doubt the, I don't care how much the meal cost idea. You may be wrong on that one. They don't talk about money or like to talk about money. You're correct. If they work when they don't have to, it's because they want more money. Probably greed. Good observations.

    Dear Helen, what excellent advice you give. I made most of the mistakes you discuss, like buying/selling 15 - 20 motorcycles at a loss, impulse buying, etc. Luckily, I have a frugal wife who put us on a savings/investment plan early in our marriage (1980). I wound up making good money; we both had investment accounts when, Surprise! I got a stage 4 malignant thymoma that left me with a neurological disease. I had to retire at 58. However, thanks to my wife's urge to save, we don't worry about money. --Old Guy

    The last point is very true, the people who need this job to stay afloat complain about the job, the company and or their bosses way more than the people at the company who are already financially independent. I know that I enjoyed my job way more after I achieved financial independence and it was the same job.

    2:53 poor people will still go to restaurants and spend more than they can afford if it’s payday. My brother used to do that. Pretend he’s not a broke bitch for one night every 2 weeks.

    2:20 if the cheapest thing on the menu is $20 dollars and the thing you want is $35 then just get what you want. You already committed to the $20 so really you’re only choosing to spend $15 more. Don’t go to restaurants until you can afford to eat at restaurants.

    Fact. Family will end up thinking that you had the money anyway and will "forget" payments. When you call them on it, they end up resorting to "You had the money anyway". Starts an ugly thing that could involve deflated tires among other things.

    I submit that how big your starter emergency fund needs to be depends mostly on how long you expect it to take to get to step 3. Every year you spend in step 2, you should add another thousand to that initial emergency fund, until you get to 3 months expenses.

    maybe listen to what people are interested in? most people talk about about who said what, what someone owns, how they feel... a few people like to talk business, how something's made, investing, how to build... It's two different crowds really. If you want to spot a 'rich' person maybe talk business and see who asks questions? If you want to spot a 'fun' person maybe talk vacations and see who asks questions. there's way more 'fun' people out there

    I agree everything you said except that they don't look at menu prices or price tags. Successful people still want "value" in same way we want "value" for a well made hand bag or other product like you said. Everyone else that I know who is successful is the same way. Granted, I am talking about people that made their own wealth, not generational wealth or trust fund kids- maybe that is different.

      @MillionaireHouseholdFinance Expensive to maintain and repair. They are mostly a status symbol for those that have plenty of disposable income. And then you have the wannabes that would be better off buying another brand like Toyota. But to each their own. Oh, and I think BMW was the first scammers to make you pay a subscription for hardware and functionality that came with the car. Like heated seats. But suckers fall for it anyway.

    My experience is that maxing my 401k was one of the larger mistakes I made. Here's what I wish I had done; 1) invest up to the company match in my 401k 2) max out my roth 3) max out an HSA when I qualify. 4) Invest the rest in a standard brokerage account. (this assumes you are a buy and hold type of investor, and that you do NOT have a ROTH 401k available) Here's why; 1) The company match is worth the taxes you MIGHT have to pay. 2) ROTH is tax free at retirement, and can be used without penalties or taxes within limits before retirement. 3) You're gonna have health care expenses, and why not pay them tax free? 4) There is NO long term capital gains tax on your first $89,250 of GAINS PER YEAR (if you're married). This is MUCH better than a traditional 401k tax treatment. So, during retirement, I'd draw nearly 30k per year from my traditional 401k. This would be tax free because of standard exemptions. Then, I'd take out about 60k of GAINS from my brokerage account that would also be tax free. If needed, I'd pull additional money from my ROTH, and of course pay my medical with the HSA. This gives me a tax free income in excess of 100k per year if I've made good investments. I am not a financial adviser, or a tax professional and this is not financial or tax advice.

  • @bartwilliams4478
    @bartwilliams4478 26 днів тому

    Biggest Scam in regards to 401k, is that you have no idea at what tax rate you will fall under 40 50 years later, and how inflation affects the value. Any taxes on distribution should be based on the annual tax rate at the time it was deposited, kinda like fifo...jmo

    • @bartwilliams4478
      @bartwilliams4478 26 днів тому

      Also think about this, when they convinced you 401k taxes would be less when you retire because you require less annual income therefore your money will be taxed at a lower rate. What is not mentioned that over time inflation forces you to increase distribution to cover essential costs which could bump up the tax rate.
