Chico Fold & Go - A Great Option But Not Quite Perfect
Переглядів 7 тис.Рік тому
I’ve tried a couple of travel car seats now, and this has some great qualities but by no means perfect. This is an isize seat suitable from roughly 3 years, but lacks a 5 point harness which in my opinion is a massive turn off….. Quite chunky so not quite travel size, but more compact then your average seat

Maxi Cosi Nomad - A Surprisingly Disappointing Car Seat

Here’s the Maxi Cosi Nomad car seat. Supposedly the innovation in toddler travel. The foldable multi stage car seat. I thought this would be the product of dreams given the wait list for it, but having tested it for myself, I’m not sure I would feel comfortable using this for my children. Surprising for a brand such as Maxi Cosi! Fitted as per the instructions and re fitted several times after ...

do you mind telling us which clinic you had it down with? I found one but it's from £12k and you paying £9k (and having good results) seems more appealing.
@@dianaatuona4263 Hi, it was iqonic aesthetics in London, interested to know where you have seen for £12k?!
كيف اصبح طفلك الان
Thank you for this! We are on day two and you've just made me cry because you know how I feel! I feel silly about how emotional I feel. I had just gotten the hang of looking after this baby and now I feel like I'm starting over and we're back at day one with me not knowing how to do anything. Anyway thank you for the video, the practical help was very useful and also just knowing someone out there knows exactly how this feels was also helpful. Hope everything worked out well for you and your baby!❤
@@stellamariemagee thankyou, and I promise you it does get easier! Every time I read comments like yours it’s takes me right back to 3 years ago and it’s so emotive! Take your time with everything, you’ve got this! x
I have checked and it says 9kg onwards. Not for 9mths. Second you loop the diagonal belt into the two anchors which is incorrect based on instructions video. Hope u correct your video..i was almost put off buying this until i saw others highlight the errors. I dont mean any disrespect but misinformation can be very stressful for first time moms trying to make good decisions
Hello, it’s been noted before the production information has been changed online since this video was posted. I had also been I contact with the company and flagged my concerns with them direct. This seat was originally advertised as from 9kg. I appreciate your comments around the fitting but others to have experienced the same problem with this seat. If works for you in your car then great. This type of product is a great idea if it fits properly!
I’ve updated the thumbnail to show the original description of this car seat stating from 9months. The new model has updated to show 15months
Do you have any regrets? Anything you'd do differently? Thanks 👍🏻
@@ninas5747 no, no regrets atall! For me there really is nothing to regret! I wouldn’t really say anything I’d do differently as I haven’t had any issues etc…. Only had it sooner (if it was available!!!) x
@@erinlouiseruth thank you! Sorry for all the questions.. how long was it until they settled into the final size/shape? I have a consultation this week with Dr Richards.. but am pretty nervous about the post op pain/recovery/general health risks. Thanks 🙏🏻
@@ninas5747 I’m 3 months in now and I would say it’s been atleast a month since I’ve thought they look absolutely normal. They look and feel just as normal. The shape does change and drop over time so just don’t be alarmed with how they look straight away! The downtime is pretty low comparably to a traditional procedure but obviously have to still take it easy and just ensure being sensible for good recovery & healing!
***SOLUTION*** At 2:59, she mentions threading the diagonal part of the seat belt back through the waist band hook. Don’t do this as it introduces a second lock to the belt, which stops the belt from tightening further. Also, do not put the diagonal belt through both RED/GREEN stoppers. Only use the one closest to the top of the belt. Pull everything through tight as she mentions. Following all of the above will stop the bottom of the seat from jolting forwards. However, the top of the seat does still move forward, however, this is intended as it is meant to dissipate some of the energy during an impact. If the seat was tight and didn’t move at all during an impact, the energy will be transferred to your child’s neck, tragically
Great series of videos. I hope that the smile on your face stays for many years yet and that the procedure gets adopted by many others who feel short chaged by nature. Thank you.
I normally watch your husband, but am really intrigued by this method of enhancement. You deliver it so well and your enthusiasm is infectious. I hope the whole thing goes really well and changes your life for the better. Thank you.
Erin - glad it’s going so well - as I said to Rory, you are a natural in front of the camera - be it here, the harness or car seats - you should do more (and that was a great article in the press too - well done you!)….
Now a month later, do you feel the implant by touch? Do you think the implant is a little visible or they seem 100% natural?
@@GiuliaGUIDI-e6p I certainly can’t feel the implant by touch, me knowing I have an implant I can ‘sense’ it in some instances but it doesn’t feel unnatural by any stretch. I’ve updated my journey on my TT page so maybe check in on there as might give more insight :) x
@@erinlouiseruth thank you for the quick & kind answer! Just followed you on TT <3 !!!
How long did you wear the breast belt/ band over your sports bra?
@@AndreaSantanachannel I was told to wear the band for 1 week, which I did. And then I wrote it a few extra days at night as I actually felt more supported with the band on!
@@erinlouiseruth thanks!
Absolutely incorrect installation. Just delete this video , lol 😂
@@neevmarcel4639 given many have had the same experience I’d argue it isn’t an installation issue. If you have belts that are on stalks, you cannot get the tension needed for these to secure properly
Beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
How long did the procedure take and how long did you have to stay afterwards before you could go home?
@@AndreaSantanachannel I think the whole thing was about an hour from going down to the theatre to coming back to recovery. I went home a couple hours after that. Being the first to have it done it was a bit longer than it would generally be!
What size or how many cc’s did you get? I know MIA goes up to 190cc because the projection is different than other implants. Are they the size you wanted, or did you think they’ll be bigger/ smaller? Thanks!
@@AndreaSantanachannel I had 170cc, and for me the size suits me without looking too big. Most people wouldn’t even think I’ve had anything done as they are just in proportion which is what I wanted. I didn’t want ‘big boobs’ but it’s preference! They are the exact size I was describing I wanted x
@@erinlouiseruth thanks so much! Also my goal, I don’t want big breasts, literally just want to restore the volume I lost after pregnancy and breastfeeding 😀
I am going for my MIA procedure on 3 September in Belgium! Can’t wait. Thanks for sharing your experience
@@AndreaSantanachannel ah so exciting! Good luck!!
Good to see you recover that well👍😊
Hi Erin , during your recovering did you feel comfortable enough to carry on with your daily life ? Just thinking about how to wait before going back to work and driving ?
@@christinaskinsaviours165 hello! Yes comfortable enough to do most things. I only had 1 day off work after the procedure but it wasn’t a necessity. I was driving within 2 days. Things just felt tight and sensitive, but not super painful. More like a heavy gym session. I have 2 young children so trust me when I say you can pretty much do normal things, just being mindful!
@@erinlouiseruththat’s fantastic Erin! Pleased you had a good recovery
After how long would you say that you were completely back? Into working out fully etc.
@@lydiafriberg6627 I was walking and doing static bike within a couple days, low impact lower body within 5 and light upper body within 2 weeks. I train most days usually so for me this was a fair time to wait, but appreciate everyone will be different! Xx
This sounds too good to be true! How long is it before they felt natural/settled completely? In your experience would you genuinely say you could do a commute and be back in the office within a week? How long do you have to wear the support bras for? Thanks for sharing!
Hi Erin, your videos have been super helpful. How have things been since filming this video? Have you had any issues regarding recovery (I hope everything has been ok). How long did you take off work after the procedure? Was that enough time off? Based on your experience how much time would you recommend off (office based/desk based role). Thanks so much in advance, Vanessa
@@Vanessa-w2n so pleased they’ve been beneficial! Please check my TT page as I’ve done a few more daily updates and will post again on here hopefully tomorrow :) No real issues at all, I only took procedure day and the following day off work, and was back also at desk job from home following day and driving short distances 2 days after. I genuinely was up and about same / next day just taking it easy. Things a bit uncomfortable but not painful. Just felt like heavy gym session. 3 weeks post procedure now and no aches and pains, feeling and looking great! This is brilliant. What clinic did you use please?
@@nicolamortimer3415 This was done through iQonic Aesthetics. They are the only clinic doing it in the UK at the moment!
it would be nice to edit you remove this video or u learn how to fit it properly and upload again
@@andresmalo254 hi, if you had read previous comments you’d see that anyone with the type of seat belt I had would have the same problem due to it being on a stalk. This isn’t suitable as a go to travel item if you don’t know what setup the car will have
Any tips for removing a very soiled nappy without getting poop all over yourself or a new nappy when you lift the baby with the harness on?
Hiya, with me - if it was really soiled I would probably just undo the leg straps to do the change as long run wouldn’t be ideal to have mess on the harness! Good luck!
Has anyone tried to just add one or two extra straps that wrap around the car seat. Thats how I set up mine and its pretty solid now 👍🏻
One way to solve the problem, but you shouldn’t need to!
Very true, but it seems like the only viable seat to really take on a plane. And others seek to have the same issue.@@erinlouiseruth

What are the activities he used to do ?
Let your husband install the car seat
Thank you for making this video - my baby is 12w today and we have just been referred to get a harness fitted - i don't know how long the referral will take, but it's good to prepare by watching these videos, i feel lot better prepared now.
Just to make clear for anyone from a safety perspective, there is a big error in the review. The seat is not advertised for a 9 month old. It is for 15 months / 9kg minimum child. I believe Erin confused 9kg for 9 months.
Hi, thanks for your comment, I actually think they have altered the age range as when I purchased this item it was from 9 months. On Amazon and other retailers it is still actually listed from 9 months despite maxi cosi website showing 15months.
They only say 15 months because legally you aren't allowed to put a baby under 15 months in a front facing seat in the UK.
Possibly, but this seat was advertised as from 9months. My updated thumbnail shows the original description for this seat. The new model description has been changed… potentially since I flagged this issues
Thanks for the clarification @MrAmbrosse and @erinlouiseruth
You should definitely refer this to Maxi Cosi. They should be able to support you best practice installation and indeed review this if necessary. Always, always reach out to Brands with experience and feedback I'd say. They have the expertees, resources and are as invested in car seat safety for your child as you. 💕
Would this fit in the small middle seat? Need something to fit the middle seat of my insignia
Yes, it should! I just fit this between a maxi cosi cabriofix (older model) on isofix base and an adult in the back of a Skoda Octavia the other day.
i would rather trust that these products have been properly tested before coming to market, rather than listen to a youtube review. if this was such an obvious flaw in the design, it would not have been allowed to be sold. so its more likely some user error in this review, as other comments have suggested.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. As others have said, the type of seat belt clip you have fitted in the car can make a significant impact on how ‘tight’ the seat can go. If the seat belt clips and flush with the seat and are not on ‘arms’ then you won’t get as much movement. In my car (mini) the belt clips are higher then the seat, so regardless how tight you pull the car seat, it will never be super tight as there is natural movement in the belt clip. Even if this wasn’t an issue in my car, it could be the case if I was in a taxi or hire car. This seat is also advertised from 9months- and is very upright. Neither of my children would have been safe in that at 9months! The idea is great, and others are trying to do it too…. But there is always compromise!
I feel I have to point out that you made a big error in the review. You have repeated it here: the car seat is not advertised for a 9 month old... It would be crazy to do this! It's for 9kg and upwards, which is where I think you got confused. @@erinlouiseruth
nachfolger Hyfive is best.
Thanks for sharing. My daughter is also diagnosed with ddh 2a- and i feel overwhlemed.
Those first few days are so challenging, more for us then for the little ones. I hope some of my videos will help you - you’ve got this! X
Where did you get that changing mat your baby is laying on?
Hi! Oh I think it was on Amazon or something like that!
How to you stop the nappy from leaking up the back
Sizing up and folding the back of the diaper towards the babies back helps
It’s so hard to stop that generally, but deffo not ideal with the harness! I agree with the other comment, but also pulling the tabs diagonally down rather than straight across helps create a tighter fit. Also try different brands, some have elastic style backs to help avoid this and others are more ‘open’!
Wow that is not how you set up a non iso fix car seat... ofcourse the seat is going to move back and forth like that... it isn't tensioned..EEP
Hello! I can assure you I followed the instructions and video tutorial. The seat was as tight as it could go. We came to the conclusion that due to the seat belt within the seat being raised and flexible and not sunken and solid; there was always going to be some movement. I even tried this in another car
Hi @@erinlouiseruth but you are kneeling down on the ground, so you have no leverage to create effective tension... You have to stand up, pull the seatbelt whilst pressing down on the babyseat using your bodyweight and you use a push/ pull method to remove the slack from seatbelt. We ended up purchasing this carseat(on recommendation of the first part of your video actually - thank you) and its great because we are jetsetting around Europe changing cars often so the fold up and lightweightness is really handy. We don't have any slipping because we make sure we secure it properly.
@@LaurentGamboa Did you use the car seat on airplanes while you were traveling? Since it doesn't have an airplane-safe label, I'm afraid the airlines will not allow me to use it. Has anyone used it on an airplane? I'm flying with my 17-month-old baby, and I like the seat. I just don't want to deal with the airline staff telling me I cannot use it.
Gosh! I just want a portable car seat that I can use easily on taxis and Ubers!! 😭 😭 I don’t have a car and most likely will never get one 😅😅
if you look for a safe seat, there is only the nachfolger HyFive which is small folding and below 5kg. Rearfacing seats are bigger, but thats valid for all super safe rear facing seats.
I know this is an old video but our 3 month old was just fitted for one of these. Our pediatrician put it on her bare skin but said we could choose to do clothes over the Barnes or under, whatever we wanted. Is there a benefit to doing one instead of the other? Obviously under the harness would help with rubbing but for certain clothing items like footed pajamas or pants I’m wondering how I would change her diaper if the clothes were under the harness
Thanks for your comment, and hope you are finding things ok. Feedback we had was that clothes under the harness could mean some slipping of the harness / twisting, and the obvious having to perhaps take the harness off. I weighed up the pros and cons of both and found a way to get the vest on with minimal movement of the harness. Dr’s will always be super cautious and advise the ‘best’ thing to do as they don’t know how careful you will be I guess. I only ever put a thin vest under the harness, everything else was on top (pyjamas, jumpers, trousers)
Is there any difference of pillow harness or pavlik harness?
Hello! I am not sure what a pillow harness is- I know there are more rigid versions of this harness and different style depending on country
Such a skillful change of onesie! Thank you for helping me imagine what my mum had had to figure out. I wore Pavlik's Harness in Czechia in1960, while Dr Pavlik was still writing and in practice there! BTW, my harness was removed only once I'd figured out how to stand in the crib despite it! Presumably way later than they're used now😅! I have vague memories of my mum describing the debate of how often to expose me to the X-ray evaluations which also expose ovaries to Xrays, the *mounds* of cloth diapers and clothes changes to wash, and all the pins the harness required. But your video filled in much of the logistics I had wondered about after I no longer had parents to ask. I expect that your son recovered fully and walks and runs happily. May this be a fading memory, mostly pride of how resiliently and creatively you'd dealt with the complexities of caring for and traveling with a baby in the Pavlik harness! Thanks for posting these tips and video for every parent who is figuring this out!
Wow thank you for such a powerful comment. It baffles my mind how challenging it must have been in the past, with no easy access to information, especially when I relate it to the lack of information I felt I had which led me to make these videos in the first place! My son is as you say, happy and healthy. We did experience some gross motor delay but likely due to hypermobility and a tibia break not long after he walked! I’m amazed how helpful these videos have been for people, when at the time for me this was a way of coping! Thank you x
I had a inflatable reboarder from Nachfolger, an Austrian company. Though I think they went under during the pandemic. It was quite big (would fit just so in a VW Polo, if nobody used the front seat) and still heavy with 5kg, but sturdy and comfortable for long trips. If a holiday was just a flight and a bus transfer, the Luftikid with 1-2kg was the winner. Though that is not produced anymore as well. Maybe you are lucky on the used market.
Hi Leza, but safetywise the Luftikid is not a real car seat, they never made somthing better than a 5,5 ranking in ADAC testing, nachfolger had a 1.9 in safety in 2019. I cannot find nomad in ADAC ranking, but this is highly relevant, if a seat is able to survive these tests. When Luftikid passed R44 the standard wasnt at this level we see now by far.
@@KiSi2005 I agree, I would not use Luftikid in a car. But if you need something in cabin during a flight your options are limited. A big transfer bus is safer than a car ride and you often only have 2 point buckles there. And of course, the super lightweight Luftikid is convenient for flying, where your luggage is limited. So, if you have a holiday without a car, but flights and bus transfers, I would choose that. The Nomad is neither for cabin nor for 2 point belts and the Nachfolger does not fit into economy class seats.
Can i ask what travel seat you decided on in the end please.
Hello, we opted not to get a travel car seat, and instead hire car seats if needed or travel with our own full size ones.
If you only do short distances (taxi, bus, etc.), the Trunki Boostapak might be interestung for you. Though I would not use that for longer road trips.
This travel car seat does not have a tether?
No, this car seat does not have a top tether
Thank you for this video! Totally feel how you described you did!
She keep referring to "isofix". Is that the UK equivalent to UAS or LATCH?
Yes
Don’t think keeping a seat in the boot is a great idea as it’s going to move about and could possibly get damaged 🥰
