Hi, did You try to cut acanthophyllia?
@@96Mayfly haven’t but i plan on trying soon
@@luuuuuushhh it will be good material :D
I agree with you bro I switched from radions to the new reef breeder meridian and my acros are glowing and encrusting better than ever
@@zulu09 nice, love to hear that bro
Where can you still find halide fixtures?
I have used both 400 watt halides and Radion G6 XR-30 Blue. Both are fantastic. LED is preferred due to the heat issue. Don’t want to add a chiller.
You’re using the PRO Radions for AB+ spectrum so you’re losing tons of PAR, especially mounted high. Should have had the Blues since that spectrum is what the default all channel spectrum is, and if mounted that high, using the narrow lenses. I’ve moved away from Radions to the ATI Stratons because I couldn’t stand the fan noise and didn’t want to deal with supplemental lights, but LEDs are just way more efficient than Halides, unless you need the heat from the Halides.
@@buruskeee the par value is not the issue i measure par, in terms of reefing i disagree that led are more efficient a 400 watt halide covers much more space then 2 radion xr30 at 205 watts each. also you just can’t beat the spectrum they produce
@@luuuuuushhh And a 300W ATI Straton covers the same area as a 400W Halide with reflector, hence why I switched from Radion to ATI. The ATI is basically the middle ground of T5 coverage with Halide PAR punch. Go read the huge thread about the ATI Straton on R2R where there's tons of testing done. The ATI units are 18"x18", which is why they can take care of a 30"x30" area with no problem (larger area if not SPS). By the way, heat is a direct relation to power loss/effeciency.
@ ati is great but the price is outrageous for my application i would need 3-4 of them, i could get 3-4 halide and some led bars for the same price as 1 of those ati lights, not to mention the halides will produce a better spectrum for coral coloration
@@luuuuuushhh Spectrum is all user controllable. Also, you're comparing used Halide fixtures/ballast to brand new LED fixtures - then you change out your bulb every 6 months to a year, that's another $100 per year (on top of the electricity costs for having to chill the water if you're in a warmer climate). You can pick up used ATI Stratons for cheap. Even cheaper you can pick up used ReefBreeders which also pack tons of PAR with good spread. I loved my old Lumen Bright reflectors, but it's just way easier now with LEDs. If you want to go cheap, the knock off fixtures get you even better $ per PAR.
@ i disagree leds Uv do not color coral like metal halides, i am in texas and i dont use a chiller temp stays at 78 it works fine without chiller if u mount them high enough, i love halides they color up acros and corals like no other lights. and they do so being the cheapest option. only reason i use leds is for late night blues when i want to see the corals pop
Is it just going to ups and saying “I need to ship this coral?” Is there other paperwork involved? What’s usually the cost for shipping?
just drop off like every other next day air package, cost is normally $50
Ha-lide…. Not Hay-lide. 😉
I have used Photon V2 for the last 6 years. My current set up is 4x True Blue T5s, 4x Actinic T5s, and 2x Reef Breeders Photon V2s. I've got the lights mounted 13 inches above the water and the tank is 48x48x24.I am getting around 280 to 290 PAR at 12 inches deep into the tank. I kind of feel like I need more PAR to be honest. I have a POTO Flamethrower that is growing, but super slow. Where I have it mounted, I think its getting around 200 PAR.
@@strat1960s wow 200 is low in my tank i have zoas around that par level, are you sure that ur par meter is correct, my acros get about 400-600 in some spots 750 the halides are par machines
@@luuuuuushhh I use the Apex PAR meter. I have no way to really verify its reading corectly. I set the sensor on top of some rocks and just leave it there till it needs to be cleaned. The sensor lens seems to be an ideal spot for coraline to grow. My nearest LFS is about 2 hrs away. I doubt they'd be comfortable with letting me "barrow" their par meter. LOL
Your Radion seems way too high-they’re designed for lower optimum mounting height not halide height because of the design for spread at a lower mounting height. Any decent light can grow coral and well if used properly. Lots of coral farmers have said the same, like WWC., battle corals, frag garage, etc. Right tool for the right situation. Chinese Led bars have a proven track record if used properly, just like any other light. Have you mapped the PAR in your tanks? I would like to see that!
most coral farmers i know who actually aquaculture corals do not use radions. a lot of importers use them. much better options for the price, and imo radions are some of the worst lights in their price bracket. i have mapped the par, and i have to mount at that hight so the lower light corals get the light they need, and not to much. but that’s a great video idea ill cover that tomorrow! also the mobuis app is terrible i’m not a fan of the lights performance… and the ridiculous price
I’ve used T5’s and leds for yrs, now just leds (xr15’s and aquaticlife coral cover combo), and I’ve grown everything without a problem. Just have to be patient and find the spectrum and intensity suitable for whatever coral you’re trying to grow. Power expense, heat, and a doubtful future bulb supply steered me away from halides, which were dominant when I first started reefing, but I didn’t feel like paying for a chiller too…. I think led combos are ideal in terms of long term expense, energy usage, and adjustability, at least for me. The blanket of light I get is no different than the T5’s I used to use. Looking forward to your par map, which is what matters in the end regardless of fixture. Biggest problem I have with halides is the heat, expense, and size- there’s no hiding the fugly fixture😂
I agree with you about the sole use of radions. I have 4 of the XR-30 G5 blues in the middle and Reefbrite XHO LEDS combined with T5’s on both edges of my display. Subbed your channel. Your corals look very nice.
I agree with you with the halides for acros! The lights are cheaper but you end up spending three times more in electricity. In the long run it evens out. But yeah the radeons have gotten ridiculously expensive. I have a xr15 on my 36 gallon sps tank and you do have to spend a long time adjusting the lights to get the desired spectrum.
actually the halides are around the same wattage as most led comparatives on the market
Clean your acrylic !
After watching this video, I think its time for me to clean my Gyres. I wish there was a way to measure water movement inside my tank. I can measure what my return pumps are moving, but to know what my gyres are moving beyond whats written on the box, I do not believe exists. Ive read and been told my corals will tell me if they need more flow or less flow. I guess after 6 years in the hobby, I still haven't figured out how to read my corals.
Bro you’re killing it with these uploads! Keep it up
What are the dimensions of that tank?
I can’t find this stuff anywhere for sale
🔥👌🙌👏🔥
You mentioned consistent PH. My PH goes from 8.2 to 8.4 throughout the day. Do you think that is too much of a swing? I tried a CO2 scrubber a few years back (at our previous house). At our new house, as long as the humidity and temp aren't too bad I open windows and doors. That by itself has boosted Tank PH from 8.10 to 8.20 at the beginning of the day. Im in North Central Texas and our summer's get hot resulting in lower PH. We're on well water. Im not sure what changed, but I could get 6 months out of my RODI resins. In the last 2 or 3 months, I've been exhausting the Anion resin after only making 200 gallons of RODI. I was going to add one or two additional canisters of Anion. Thoughts???
Where are you getting this much interceptor

How much par over the acros?
Flow settings on setup would be a interesting video.

Great vid. You said 6 pills for 400 gallons. How do you dose them? Crush them up and mix them in tank water?

Did this kill all the inverts in the tank?
Hi, very nice corals ! How many PAR do the Tenuis receive roughly around 6:00 minutes into the video ?
Thank you for great video, where can I buy the interceptor? online is asking Rx
you’ll need a prescription, and you can then order from chewy
Whats your dosage per gallon
How do you get a RX? I’ve called vets and they don’t want to give it.
Most of the stuff they sell has flavors, does this matter?
