Don’t kill the messenger.. so the information on this video is only partially correct…. I would seriously consider updating your advice. Yet me explain. Growing up, the only bats around were ash. We were all taught “hit with the grain” (edge side). Which is why on ash you always find the label over the ovals (face grain). A few years ago I decided to try maple Bats as they were all the rage now. Right away I was tripped up because the labels were located on the edges. I was annoyed, I got so use to stepping into the box and turning the label to my face. I consciously had to think “turn label away” for those first couple of games but I got used and hit my maple’s with the grain for years.. BUT, the labels on maples always bugged me. Every time I went looking for new bats. Ash was labeled on the face and maple had labeled on the edge (mostly), I never stopped to think why? I didn’t like it because my labels got wrecked within a couple of days. Then one game a younger teammate made fun of me for smudging the labels and hitting with the “wrong side of the bat”. I told him he was wrong and moved on. However after I got home, I started thinking “No company wants their label to become beat up and unrecognizable after one game.. They want people to see their brand” That’s when I actually looked this stuff up. There are a ton of studies and lots of information dating back to 2009. The MLB was going to pass a rule enforcing bats to have labels only on the face grain. Some companies fought against that saying maples and similar woods hit better on the face. So they wanted to keep putting labels on the edge for those bats That’s when the MLB and others started digging into and studying bat characteristics. As it turns out, they found hitting with softer woods like Ash, the edge Is best for both performance and durability But with harder Woods like Birch and Maple, the face is better because of the woods density and how harder woods break.. Hitting a maple on the face has been found to increase the bats durability. Pretty much all the Pros hit Maple on the face now. Of course, the younger guys on my team know this. They’ve been watching their favorite MLB players swing the face of Maple Bats at the ball for the last 15 years. I’m actually shocked they didn’t tell me I was wrong earlier. Anyways, not all Bat manufactures agree… Some (not many) still recommend hitting with the edge of their maple. The easiest way to tell which way your bat manufacturer recommends you hold, swing and hit your bat is to look at the bats label placement. They always put brands, logos and other labels in spaces that are well visible and not used. They keep the recommended strike faces open/empty so the batter knows where to hit the ball. If you disagree with that method, that’s on you. I don’t care which way you swing. If you want to keep hitting your maple on the edge no matter what.. More power to you. (However, just know. There’s a chance you could be voiding your manufacturers warranty by hitting against their recommendation.) I didn’t come here to tell anyone they are wrong. I hit my maple on the edge for years just fine. I just wanted make you aware that you may be missing some information or are unaware of the current recommendations and findings and trends…

I have never seen a bat with the label not on the face grain. I would suggest never buying that brand as they don't their own product.

A bat is a tool and just like ANY wooden impact tool (bat, hammer, axe etc) you want to do exactly what you described to prevent breaking. Never buy a hammer or an axe where they put the head on the wrong way, or you will be buying a new one really soon.

Got mine last week and cant wait to hit with it this week.

Did all this and my sanchez still split. I think louisville just needs to make it more durable. Absolutly love them but quality control clearly lacks when there the only company with this issue

hello, very good video. I have several concerns regarding the true Temper Rake drop 10 bat and they are as follows, how light is the bat? Since in the video you mention that the bat is 31'/21oz and it seems to be 17', because I plan to buy it a bat to my 8-year-old son and I found that information interesting. And the other is, regarding the balance of the bat, how is it? I really appreciate your opinion. Greetings.
