With only a day and an half I aimed to get the next DOC "Great Walk" completed in minimal time. Night spent in the old school house at Port Craig. The odd shaped rock located on top of the Old Man Range in Central Otago, NZ. This was a fast hike to the top to see it, with a run back down. Top facts - The Old Man Range has nothing higher between it and the South Pole. The rock is 26 meters tall at an altitude of 1682 meters high. #newzealand #otago #hiking #running #rockformations #travel #fastpacking #queenstown #southisland

Love it! Name of the peak? Canterbury Plains down below?
Correct, they are the Canterbury plains below,, this was at the top of Big Mt Peel ! Stunning views...
❤❤❤❤
Love from india 🙌🙌
Hi matt, i enjoyed watching your video. Enjoy your travels.
Hey, thanks for watching, it was an amazing experience 😀
I am just starting fastpacking (at 68!) Thinking of doing this one in a day, though would be a much longer time than you, and with a lighter pack, as this is (just) doable for me. But I would also like to see the track from Totaranui to Wainui first, so would do that round trip the first day, then camp at Totaranui, and do the walk/jog you did the next day. But this would involve ditching my heavier pack so getting that taken back to the car around Kaiteri or as near as possible. Would you have any idea if that is logistically possible? Thanks
Hey Chris, I'm pretty sure you could use the water taxi's to do this for you. They transfer all sorts of freight for hikers and residents along the track.. have fun, it's a fantastic track..👌
🎉keep going wow 🎉🎉
I love your videos
Wow cool
Cool video bruv! But you need to burn those Crocs! Bad footwear dude! 😂
I'm rolling up there in my nemo hornet 2. Been homeless for close to 2 years now gt an acc pay spent 4k at macpac all ready to roll
no wild animals there?
Birds and Possums that's about it!
Cool, have fun! 😊
Looking into fastpacking~~Thank you for the video! We enjoyed this one.

Nice one new subscriber.........
Thanks for the sub. 👍
Where exactly on the port hills did you camp? I'm going up there tonight to test my new tent out.
Just below the summit of Mt Ada, slightly away from the track, there some good spots. Enjoy 👍
This was filmed and composed just beautifully my friend. Shots are gorgeous! What a scenery 🔥🔥
Sure is a special place up in them mountains, thanks for watching. 👍
Gorgeous footage! NZ is always lookin' beautiful : ) / We would love to visit one day from the Pacific northwest USA. Cheers!
Thanks for watching. It is really amazing here, as is the scenery in the US.👍
@@mattabouttrails thanks for replying, NZ has some features that remind us of the Pacific Northwest but also just gorgeous in its own right. Rock on!! 🤘💙💙
Amazing view 👌
It was a tough day, but it was worth it to be up there.. Thanks for watching. 👍
So beautiful, what camera are you using? Looks great man keep it up!
Thanks, much appreciated. The camera is a Insta 360 R with the 4K lens. 👍
@@mattabouttrails Appreciate the response! It looks spectacular.

I love the riding in NZ :)
Yep, It's the best!
Another awesome adventure out in the back country. Which hut is this?
This is the Wire Yards Hut in the Oteake Conservation area. 👍
That looks like hard work, but stunning scenery. We live in NZ but go to Europe to cycle tour.
Yes, the uphill slog was worth the views. The cycling infrastructure in Europe is brilliant, good choice. 👏
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, GOD BLESS YOU MAY YOUR CHANNEL GROW IN 2023 IN JESUS NAME AMEN
Much appreciated, thanks for watching.
I also love beers while camping, but not a good idea cause need to pee like three or four times in the night 😂😂😂
Yeah, that can be issue, but still worth it..👍
Thanks for sharing!! 👌
Thanks for watching, appreciated..👍
Jeez that sunrise looks almost as good as that whitebait baguette
Cheers, was a good combo.👍
Good to see I'm not the only crazy one that attempts to trail run that track :D
Not for the faint hearted running this trail, it was very slippy in places, but well worth the view..
Finally! Someone that says whitebait "PATTIES"! and not "fritters" lol. Also want to add I absolutely love your channel, I've only just found it.
Yeah, definitely patties.. Hey thanks for watching and really appreciate your comment ✌️
Very agile runner
Thanks mate..👍
Hey mate, thanks for the video, how long was the walk in total? did you come up from the Kaituna carpark and via packhorse?
I started at Purau Port Levy Rd and went up the Monument Track. It took around 8 hours there and back including stops, I was in no rush that day.. Thanks for watching.
Dang that water must have been as cold as my ex wife.
I see the Asianation of Auckland has gained pace even more since I left in 2006, that was some walk you did there, was that all in one day? would have liked to have seen a bit of Myers park, I used to live in the YMCA just opposite there in the 1970s and worked in Smith and Caughey in Queen street, surprising how grey and dismal everything looked but I suppose it's mid winter lol.
Took about 4 hours to cover the distance. Was indeed a grey day, but surprisingly warm for winter.
Is that buy marble hill? Just out of springs junction
Yep, that's the one.. nice easy track.
Me and my son were thinking of doing the same when it warms up.
Highly recommend, there is some great camping spots up there..
Can't wait really. Yours is the first real camp out up the port hills I've seen. Keep it up mate.
Appreciated, thanks.
Great video, thanks for sharing!!
