John Deere 440 Skidder Pulling Rope, Breaking Rope, and Auto Tightening Chain Talk
www.treelinelogging.com
I'm leaving these videos long because I know when I was trying to learn how to do this I would have wanted to see the details, fails, and fixes. I'll put some time stamps here where stuff happens.
13:00 logger rope break #1
14:50 logger rope fix #1
25:30 rope talk
32:00 tire chains talk
35:00 pulling hangers down
51:35 logger rope break #2 (3rd time that day)
I start talking crap about this rope.
54:40 logger rope break #3 (4th time that day)
Going back to cable 1/2" non swedged for sure.
If your bored with your job and want to do something that will always keep you humble. Go buy a cable skidder and a 90cc saw and get to work, just have a nice amount of burnable cash to cover your 2 years of failing before you start to get good haha.
If you like a cushy office job go hop in a processor. I'm just teasing I understand most of the guys who run those processor's did what I'm doing 30-40 years ago and have respect for all loggers. Stay safe out there.

Ported Stihl 066 Cutting 3 Foot Oak

Take down a big dead oak. Cutting popple's and delimbing. Fuel line freezes on the skidder deep in the woods. www.treelinelogging.com
legendary strong old saw 066 and badass with that bark box
I make similiar content. I'm doing some mitigation work on my land with a 66 tree farmer. As for the rope.....you have to remember every single spec of sand, bark etc. That gets into that line works like tiny knives when the rope is pulled tight it will cut into the rope, get enough sand, dirt, bark, whatever in one spot and it will cut through under tension.
These point of the videos are just not good. You’re going to have to set up cameras and move them if you want the videos to be better and to get more subscribers
First time Ive seen rope for a main cable ! 1/2 inch wire cable is perfect for that little skidder. Save your money and buy 2 sets of 10mm ice pick tire chains. You won't regret it.
Lower tire pressure, light skids.
💪STIHL
you dont need 5/8 swedge on a 440. overkill
