I am borderline tone deaf, but I can absolutely tell the difference between the re-recorded version and the original. The timing is off on the bass and drums, and Randy's solos sounds muffled a bit because the hack who agreed to mix the album, because Max Norman refused, Did not know the original sequencing of Randy's solo tracks. And when any part was triple tracked he had them in the wrong order. The bass and drum are playing to Randy., who always played on top of the beat so it sounds off. Bob and Lee played behind Randy which gave it that fuller sound.

Let's get this first and foremost: Darth Hideous is a POS, and she did ruin a great band, The band called Blizzard did record two albums. Steve Machat has written books on this and attests to it. Sharon put her ego before the band. If one subscribes to the butterfly effect, had she never put her ego before the band, Randy RHoads is probably still alive. If she does not rush that band into the studio to record Diary of a Madman.

*Rhoads... We all hope those Holy Grail tapes get released some day. I thought I had the Osbournes on the ropes when Jack saw a tweet I made about them and ran back to his mom so they could conjure up a lie and talk about it on their podcast thus easily making a case to their sheep. Bob cannot truly release these without the Osbournes consent, the Osbournes make the decision on Rhoads related stuff. Allegedly Mrs. Rhoads left control to the Osbournes, no idea why she would do that but it has handicapped The Rhoads family in making decisions. The Osbournes made up some ridiculous bullshit that they have no say in the holy grail tapes but it is between Bob and the Rhoads family then they went to try and sell the idea the audio is poor, but Bob has audio snippers on his website and they sound perfectly fine for now and could easily be fixed up. Andrew Klein who did the Rhoads doc before it got snuffed out, heard the tapes and alleges that Ozzy is not on 80-90% of the Diary sessions, and the Osbournes do not want that to get out. They had tried to negotiate a deal for the 30th Anniversary boxset, but they wanted Bob to give them ownership of the tapes, and Bob knows they edit his role out and make it about Ozzy and Randy as that boxset was with the pics, they erased Bob and lee. F the OSbournes, I hope Maiden fans egg him at the RNRHOF

Here's the thing, Moby Grape has had 54 years now to file a copyright infringement lawsuit. Maybe they didn't care. Maybe they actually talked to Zeppelin, got a check, moved on, knowing that without Zeppelin's use of their lyrics, Never would never have made them a penny. Maybe they stole the line themselves from a 1950's delta blues record. Whatever the case, Since I've Been Loving You is a great song. It's not a cover. It may include some lyrics contained in a prior song by another artist. At this point, it's much ado about nothing. Let it go. Moby Grape sure did.

    • @prisonersofrockandroll

Fair point. It gets messy because Led Zeppelin has such a long history of "borrowing" from other songs without giving a nod to the original artist -- and getting sued for it.

Rock has always been significant revolutionary force. With it's acceptance into the mainstream it's become an evolutionary force too, although it's way to early to tell where it will go. However, where it started was with amplification. From that moment Rock = Amplification, perhaps even AMPLIFICATION. After widespread adoption of black music by young whites, rock lacked only one thing. Serious amplification. The Who, Rolling Stones, Grateful Dead, and Quicksilver Messenger Service were pioneers in either actual amplifier design (Dead, Quicksilver) or had amplifiers designed to specs (Who, Stones). Either way was effective and offered benefits back then. Probably still does. I have heard John Cipollina's amp (Quicksilver guitarist & amp designer) is permanently housed in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. It's worth a look and listen. The best sound from that particualr amp is found on Quicksilver Messenger Service's Happy Trails album, the Who Do You Love suite (aka Side 1) exhibits it's remarkable sonic versatility in a live performance that is simply one of the best of the era. Especially, when you consider he would die in his mid-fourties of a nerve wasting disease he had since childhood. Rock legend tidbit.

I 100% support AI. There is no excuse for people to be famous and exorbitantly wealthy because they wrote, or sang, some songs. That's ridiculous. Trust me, AI is unstoppable and the day will come when AI will start replicating itself. When this happens, we will all have an AI assistant that is ours and ours alone. It will write songs tailored to our specific tonal likes, complete with band lore and personalities. And we will owe no money to anyone, period. The AI will write a new song every time we want one. It will make new movies to our tastes, perfectly acted, every expression perfectly emoted, and no money will change hands. In adult films, no pay gaps where women earn 10x what men do and STILL have the unmitigated gall to claim they've been exploited. Kiss that gravy rain goodbye ladies, AI will produce perfect women being perfect on film and they won't complain and they won't take in multi-hundred thousand dollar a year incomes. Adult entertainment perfection, free every time, zero "exploitation". Ai will create perfectly operational bots and once infused with AI they will do ALL the hard labor without griping, and they will do it for free. They will be built and maintained by other AI bots. Our homes will be built by bots who got the materials to build them from other bots, who themselves were built by bots who mined the iron ore, the titanium, the cobalt, lithium and so on. Plasma screen TV's, mega terra-byte googel herz computers, amazing cars, vegetable gardens and healthy fresh food from the neighborhood farm, you name it, all built by bots doing every single thing we do today, from coal mining to cleaning toilettes will be done by a bot who doesn't get paid and DOESN'T CARE. And in all of this, you can still write and sing songs, you can bake your own bread or walk your dog or clean your toilette. Whatever you want to do. The only difference will be, you won't have to.

You are some nebulous "thing" that apparently has a skill that some other nebulous "thing" can also do. If your art was next the the work of a master's, how would I be able to tell? Should I only enjoy the art that meets a specific standard? Like you, I don't know Caravaggio nor can I paint like him. Nor Géricault. So are they out or in? And if they are in, then what about you? Cuz I'm certain you can't pain't like them either. I'm certain that if your art was next to theirs I would DEFINITELY know the difference. Why should you get to count yourself in the same category as two of the greatest artists who have ever lived? Art is what pleases us. More importantly, for that definition, art is what we have been programmed to be pleased by. Caravaggio and Géricault might as well be AI for all it's worth to all of us. And this applies to you as well. If I can hang 10 paintings side by side and no one can tell me which is by a human (you) and which is by AI, then what is the point of caring? It's like buying a Maria Olmstead for half a million then ditching it when you find out she's a fraud. The point being, you don't sound like you care about "what" has been painted, but by "whom" it was painted. That's not art, it's vanity.

Grant and Page being who they were with credits.... For the record, I DON'T believe "SWTH" is plagiarized from Spirit....but "Dazed and Confused" is outright theft. Anyway...they'd heard it. The Yardbirds and LZ were both bands that were VERY knowledgeable about US R&B, and this was a popular song with British bands. This instance, and shamefully a number of others where the band have claimed authorship of other peoples compositions, is a true stain on the memory of an incredible band. Were Led Zeppelin just chancing their arm at the time or was it because they could not care less about anybody else? I do not know the answer but I find it distasteful that Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, two obvious scholars and lovers of the blues and early rock and roll, would have tried and got away with some of the musical theft that they did.

Robert Plant called Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones 'businessmen' after the way they failed to show support to him following his son's death. At the beginning of Led Zep on the first tour Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones (I believe) were partners. John Bonham and Robert Plant were paid like their employees. No share in the profits. Robert eventually sold his interest in Led Zeppelin after John Bonham's death and the band's consequent demise, in order to fund his solo career but he also believed that LZ's music was going out of fashion. Jimmy Page was really the driver of the 'cover' songs they did but he did push Robert into composing original lyrics once he was confident he could do it.

I’ve been a Doors fan since the early 90s. I’m 44 now. I believe Jim Morrison was a brilliant young man. I believe he wanted to use his rock star status as a stepping stone for his writing/poetry career. Unfortunately, he was consumed by his vices of alcoholism and depression. RIP James Douglas Morrison.

He was just a young duck when he died, so obviously he was both brilliant and a buffoon. Who says you can't be both?
