Hi Elizabeth! I think it really depends on the growing season for each individual plant as to how often you should be watering. In my experience if the plant has leaves, they will droop when it needs a drink (however if it is going into the plants dormant season the leaves may droop and die off and it’ll be important to know that because you could over water at this time as the plant won’t need water as frequently during its dormant period (if at all)). Which caudex plants do you have that you’re struggling with? 🌱

Hey! I wish I could give you a schedule of how I care for it but it’s definitely one of my more neglected plants 😫 I chuck some water in it when I realise it’s dry (and I mean like bone dry! 😣) I don’t always notice when it dries out because the pot it’s in is up higher and the plant covers it completely and it isn’t the most vocal plant! So, I barely water it 🫣 and with that I rarely fertilise it through watering, however! Recently I have been spraying all of my Hoyas with orchid mist again, this is something I used to do religiously and hadn’t for ages! I’m certain that’s the only reason why my Linearis and Polyneura are pushing blooms at the moment 🌸

@@perkyplants It's so funny how people have such different experiences with plants. I'm sure it's down to environment. I have found this plant very difficult but working on some cuttings now. I have recently put some in PON as I have always had your post in my mind and I find it such a thirsty plant. Thanks for taking the time to reply, I really appreciate it.

Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment in the first place! 💕 I agree, environment definitely has a huge impact for sure! I also think plant genetics has a huge part to play. I feel like any time I talk about the Hoya Linearis it’s a 50/50 split of people either finding it super easy or incredibly hard! I really do think it comes down to the general wellbeing of an individual plant sometimes (or a batch of plants if they come from the same generic line of that makes sense?!), it’s not always something we can fix. I really hope the cuttings take off for you 🤞🤞🤞

Oh wow! All 8 grew?! That’s so cool! Urgh you’re so right! They have so many cool plants over there that are impossible to find here! But!!! I know the exact plant you’re talking about, it’s one I’ve been looking for too and literally ordered it the other day! It’s a Hatiora salicornioides aka dancing bones cactus or drunkards dream cactus. If you type in Hatiora salicornioides into Etsy you should see a listing for one from a shop called Uplicot! They have a couple of different sized rooted cuttings and a couple of different sized potted plants! Really hope you see this in time to nab one 🤞

Oh no! I haven’t had mine a full year yet so I’m not 100% sure but I think they grow their leaves in spring? Mine haven’t given me any new leaves, these are the ones they arrived with. I know they might lose them over winter or I might chop them back if they start to look a lil meh 🙈

Oh bless your plants! What a nightmare 😫 you're very dedicated, I definitely wouldn't have managed to wash my plants as many time as you have! I've only had aphids a handful of times and have not struggled to get rid of them, I don't think I've ever had more than 3/4 on a plant at a time, I squish them or wash them off (depending on how juicy they are 🤢😅) and then check all of the undersides of the leaves for any eggs and scrap them off if I see them. Thrips are a bledy pain though, depending on the type they have different life spans, they eggs get implanted into the leaf tissue so can't be wiped away and you're right sometimes the larvae do fall off the leaves/stems after they hatch and chill in the substrate for a bit before climbing back up to the plant - such a nightmare. but that buggy army will definitely help! I'm sure of it 💪

The Phyllanthus mirabillis is on my wish list, desperate for one of those! I’ll have to check out the others you’ve mentioned, I don’t recognise their names but that doesn’t mean I haven’t seen them 🙈 sometimes plant names are just a bunch of letter in my head until I can allocate them to an image of that plant in my head then I attempt to read the name / learn to say it 😂

Ah yeah I can understand that, I’ve always been put off by a dormancy period too but I’ve tried to reframe it a bit in my head; loads of our plants have slower growing/no growth seasons but we don’t necessarily consider them ‘dormant’ and that’s helped me shift my thinking a bit. The plants where the dormancy period requires them to be unpotted and put in a dark dry place isnt for me though I don’t think! I feel like I’d forget about them completely 😂🙈

I know! I hadn’t thought of it as one either for a long time! The spirallis is super adorable and honestly every leaf petter needs a sinnigia in their life 🤭
