Being born on the shores of the Chesapeake bay is something few are lucky enough to experience, and even less appreciate. My goal with this channel is to educate as many people as possible on the world-class fishing and hidden beauty that lies within the waves of this unique, beloved estuary.
Chasing Big Migratory Striped Bass On The Chesapeake Bay (Day1). Big Jigs And Topwater.
Every fall, breeding sized Striped Bass migrate down the east coast of the United States, with a majority ending up my backyard at the beginning of winter; the one and only Chesapeake Bay. In this video, I join my father, brother, and a close family friend on a trip in mid December in search of the first wave of giants. While there weren't any GIANT fish, we caught more fish than we could count and managed to land a few over 40".
Remember, STRIPED BASS ARE STRUGGLING. While we caught a ton of fish, keep in mind that these are almost all migratory fish, most of which were originally born in the Chesapeake. A few weeks prior to this, many anglers were struggling to catch a limit of smaller resident fish at 1 per person from 19-24". Due to poor spawning in recent years, we are missing generations of smaller fish. Please remember to handle these fish with care, so that they can do their job in the spring and hopefully help replenish the stock.
I caught all of my fish on a FishOldSkool 9" OG Eel and 1 Oz and 1.5 Oz High Octane Custom Baits Jigheads. The Topwater lures were a 6" GameOn spook and a NomadTackle Chug Norris.
The rod I'm using is a Shimano Teramar 7'6" MH XF paired with a Shimano Stradic 5000 spooled with 40Lb Power Pro and a 30lb Seaguar leader.

How To Catch Fall Redfish In The Chesapeake Bay Without A Fishfinder. Kayak Fishing Salt Marshes.

In this video, I head to the southern Chesapeake bay in search of Redfish in late November. I had a great day with countless tailing redfish and big schools searching the shallows. I did my best to explain my thought process behind what I was doing and why the fish were behaving the way they were. I used the Pop-ShadZ, a soft plastic topwater popper made by ZMan, and a 1/6 oz FishOldSkool jig w...

Fishing the Chesapeake Bay from a kayak opens up a world of opportunity. On this trip in the southern bay, I found large schools of tailing redfish feeding on mullet and shrimp over grass flats. If you have any questions on how to catch redfish or how to fish the Chesapeake bay, please let me know in the comments. I'm here to help :) Thanks for watching! Annoying copyright stuff because I'm too...
Kayak Fishing Crystal Clear Chesapeake Bay Salt Marshes. Topwater Striped Bass
Переглядів 6 тис.2 місяці тому
The Chesapeake bay is home to some of the most stunning salt marshes in the world. On this trip to the eastern shore of Virginia, I found giant schools of 20-30" striped bass feeding in the shallows in crystal clear water. The fish were pushing baitfish up ledges, into areas of shallow water, and pinning them on the shoreline. Thanks for watching! Music Credits: Dreams Music: www.bensound.com/f...
Are they still so far south? I’m hoping they move up to eastern bay again this year. Looks like a great time making memories.
@@jeffreyknaub9935 this was filmed right outside of there!
Absolutely epic
Awesome! Looks so fun! Can't beat winter time striped bass fishing! We need to make our way back over to the Chesapeake this year!! Maybe soon!
Bruh you don’t tether your shit???
Now THAT was a roller coaster ride.
Bast mode!!! 🔥🔥
Funny how when you can’t kill them nobody fishes for them. That is the sole reason you are fishing alone. For the second most liberal state in the Nation you would think Maryland would be first in conservation. Sadly it’s likely the worst. The ASMFC and the State of Maryland won’t be happy untill they kill every single striped bass in the ocean. We saved ducks in 1918 by stopping the commercial harvest of them. No such thing will ever come for marine life. Oysters, Crabs and striped bass ALL at historic lows. In the case of the stripers the Charter boats are as much to blame as well. Where wildlife and money intersect is where conservation ends. All to protect a antiquated and dying way of life. Money rules though.
@@alexandercluster3003 “Funny how when you can’t kill them nobody fishes for them” Alex there were 100s of boats out there within a week. And I mean hundreds. Every local guide is as booked as they can be. We just knew they’d be here, and got out before the crowd. I’m not going to argue with you on the commercial harvest, we don’t need to be killing the big fish. The slots too high for them and there’s no reason they should be allowed to kill fish up to 36”.
awesome drone shot and catches!
Awesome video!!
@@yugomarinkovic2067 thank you!
If you can't keep them leave them alone.I know you will say it's cold and the mortality rate is low.Light tackle still stresses those large cows out.
@@joehawk9839 Joe, by that logic I shouldn’t target most of the fish that I do. You’re absolutely right, that’s what I would say, because I stick by science and fact. All the fish I’ve hooked this season have been to the boat and released very quickly, swimming off strong. I use the gear that I do to keep the fight short and the fish healthy. At the end of the day, there is 0 evidence that this fishery hurts the fish if anglers are responsible and use the correct gear. Go rain on someone else’s parade, I assure you that my opinion won’t change. Or don’t, I’ll take the engagement 😜
Ha. Funny response. Like every single one of those fish won’t be dead before summer. Are the commercial seasons closed? Nope. Maryland cares nothing for these fish. The waterman run the state. It’s a shame they had to throw them back.
Literally data supporting anything you just said
@@rjl42985 Yea it’s called common sense.
A flat calm bay and killing the Rock fish, Is a great day of fishing.
@@OutdoorsInMaryland can’t beat it!
Count your blessings tonight!!
What camera are you using
Can you travel to these marsh areas by kayak or do you take a bigger boat, anchor, and travel in by kayak?
@@Tillah88 all of the areas I fish in the kayak I pedal to👍
@ I’m from northern Virginia and we vacation on the eastern shore (Cape Charles)once a year. If you don’t mind me asking where do you put in?
@ I put in at a few different areas near Cape Charles. The boat ramp in town, kiptopeake boat ramp, and wise boat ramp will all put you in good water to go catch redfish 🙂
👍💪
I feel like I need to get my long johns on and get out there after watching this.
I stay in downtown norfolk and just wondering how to fish here?
Once this cold front pushes past it’ll be the perfect time!
Awesome video. Any idea who did the flooring in the boat?
Thank you! The flooring was done by brown dog marine. They do phenomenal work, but unfortunately don’t do decking anymore.
@ Dang that sucks.
Awesome day. Whenever I think to head out of the marshes in my little CS J16, wind whips up and that's the end of that idea. Do rock of that size hold in the Bay throughout the winter or are they on the way out? Asking for a friend. 😁
@@minniesfishies3024 they show up in the beginning of winter and won’t leave until the middle/end of spring. These fish are migrating into the bay to spawn from the ocean. This was the first wave of fish that showed up. They’ll hangout in the bay, and then make their way towards their spawning grounds in the rivers.
Hell yea!! Great vid.
@@Gplanshe thank you!
Thanks for posting . I fish that area a lot and I have never seen that many redfish all together in that spot ever. It looks like late fall is the best time .
Righteous man
I don't know how you don't get run over out there like that, dad gum, that looks unsafe.😮
They never all leave
Lmao this shit happens to the best of us, always at the worst time 😂
Omfg pullit the otherway brainwave
uh go the other way??
I dont know if you tell your spots ? Could you give me a general area to scout out some spots like the shallow flats like this
Any marshy area on the eastern shore that hasn’t been developed yet is perfect. These areas start in the little Choptank, and continue clear down to the mouth of the bay.
Bro i live in md. Just registered my kayak for my trolling motor. I had no idea places like this existed in md. Awesome 👌🏻 im so inspired
Thank you! This area is actually in Virginia, but not by a whole lot. Maryland does have some areas like this you can take the kayak to though. Check out Jane’s island state park, it’s a very common area for people to kayak fish in the marshes and will be a great starting point to learn at. I find most of the areas I fish on google maps. Look for some good looking marsh and the closest launch you can and get after it!

MONEY CANT BUY BRAINS I GUESS. LMFAI
My kayak hero today sir!
put foam on your rods that way they will float
Thank you for showing the fish
How...how...how do you get a 40" sea bass in that yak without tipping?
Aye nice fish my guy 💪🏼
HELL YEAH
These people in big water with tiny boats is stupid to me.
Cold too. It does look like he's wearing a dray suit however. And landing a 40" rock is a pretty solid payback for the day!
I was out a mile from shore of Point Roberts fishing for flounder, using bullfish as bait, and got a HUGE hit. After a 1 min battle, I realed it in to my hip (kayak) and it was a 6ft shark. Its face looked at me and i pet its belly and my buddy took his kayak and we smooshed the shark between our kayaks and trued to get the hook out. It didnt work. We cut the line and went home.
Stripe bass??
^
Congrats man! that would have been a huge bummer.
Thats an absolute beauty
I’ve been fishing for strippers on a few occasions and have never even hooked one or got a bite!! One of these days
Snatch it brother ❤ Im scrolling so you got me for 1. Where was this?
I got a 10 pound brown trout in a lake in Colorado on 4 pound test line in a micro spinning reel. I’d like to catch the biggest fish on the lightest gear. It’s a great fight. It’s a smart fight and you really gotta know what you’re doing to get them homebound
Someone needs to teach this guy how to fish man let them run wear them out
Why doesn't this have 100k views??? This is absolutely unbelievable!!! What a fish!!!! And nobody would have believed it if not on camera
Cork on the handle did the trick still lots of luck on your side brotha happy holidays
Put a reverse gear on the peddles attached to a clutch attached to a reel, so you can cast and use the clutch as, well a clutch for the reel, lol, and then when you peddle in reverse the reverse gear attached ti the real will go the other way, realing in the line
You didn't show us the fish, you didn't catch it. Stop fishing for attention. 🎣
That's why you tether your rods
This reminds me of "The Old Man and the Sea".
