Drive Hike Repeat
United States
Приєднався 28 жов 2022
A few years ago we got the wild idea to try to hike every mile of every trail in every National Park. There are ~9300 miles of trail in the 63 National Parks and as of Summer of 2024, we are a little over 37% done. Thanks for joining us in the adventures of a lifetime!
Base Camping at Hellroaring Creek in Yellowstone National Park
In this episode, we cover three days spent in the wilderness of Yellowstone. We set up a basecamp along the Hellroaring Creek Trail (technically the Hellroaring Creek Stock Cutoff Trail). It was the perfect spot to pick up three out and back hikes to the park boundary. Each day felt like we were seeing the real Yellowstone wilderness but we were only camped about 4 miles from the road. We saw no other hikers or backpackers after we passed the Hellroaring Suspension Bridge over the Yellowstone river until we got back to the bridge three days later. It was a great trip!

Cleaning Up the Valley Trails in Grand Teton National Park
Переглядів 43День тому
We are getting SOOOOO close to finishing up Grand Teton National Park! Like, so, so, so close. In Summer of 2024, we had two big goals for the park: 1) Clean up every little thing we could and 2) Backpack the remote northern region of the park. We eventually achieved both goals but this video covers the first goal. We had sections around Emma Matilda Lake, Grand View Point, Phelps Lake, and the...
Backpacking Lawn Lake & the Saddle
Переглядів 8514 днів тому
Rocky Mountain NP has this fabulous resource where you can look up the average 'snow free' date for each of their backcountry campsites. So even though we were headed to the park in mid/late June, we were able to make a plan for where we might be able to do some backpacking. We probably could have done all of these miles as day hikes but because we took our time, we were able to linger in the S...
Early Season Hikes in Rocky Mountain: Little Horseshoe Park, Ouzel & Bluebird Lakes, Boundary Trail
Переглядів 10621 день тому
With Rocky Mountain National Park now on our way to and from what feels like almost every western National Park, we're excited to tick off miles more quickly there. We planned a visit in late June knowing full well that the mountains would not be snow free. We found three day hikes that worked perfectly for the front country portion of our trip, including Little Horseshoe Park (near Deer Mounta...
Was This Our Last Hike to Jane Bald?

We found the most perfect place to hike in June one year when we were section hiking the Appalachian Trail and we spent almost every year for the next decade hiking in that same spot on June 12th. Over the last few years, our lives shifted because we were spending more time out west in the summer. But with some east coast travels and our upcoming move away from the Blue Ridge mountains, we adde...
Our First Ever Visit to New River Gorge National Park
Переглядів 184Місяць тому
In this episode, we make our first ever visit to New River Gorge National Park. It's been a long time since we had a new NP to pick up and it was fun to get to do so in early June 2024. The park was great for hiking far and fast, even if the trails got a bit redundant. It's a perfect stopover for 2-3 nights. We are Kelly & Michelle of Drive Hike Repeat. A few years ago we decided to try to hike...
The Giant Slide and Wrapping up Acadia
Переглядів 107Місяць тому
In this episode, we wrap up a 6 day trip to Acadia National Park with a hike on the Giant Slide Trail up to Cedar Swamp Mountain and then down and over to Jordan Pond House. After feeling like we kept rescheduling a trip to Acadia every year, we finally made this one happen and we got so incredibly lucky with the weather and company. It's going to be a hard visit to beat. We are Kelly & Michell...
The Bubbles and Cadillac West: Adventure Hiking in Acadia National Park
Переглядів 76Місяць тому
If you don't know, Acadia has a wide range of adventure hikes. These are hikes that involve scrambling up granite rocks, boulders, and cliff faces, sometimes with the assistance of metal rungs or handles. Some of the park's highlights were closed while we were visiting in June for seasonal protection of nesting falcons but we were still able to knock out several of them. In today's video, we hi...
Summit Central in Acadia: Cadillac, Pemetic, Day, Triad, and More?
Переглядів 812 місяці тому
Acadia is a place full of summits, with many thinking of Cadillac Mountain as the highlight. In this video, we spent two days snagging summits, from Cadillac to the lesser known Pemetic, Triad, and Day Mountains. We delighted in the unexpectedly lovely weather of the early summer season in Acadia and the company of not one but TWO friends. Because of our company, we were able to do point to poi...
Our First Real Miles in Acadia: Champlain Ridge and the Beehive
Переглядів 582 місяці тому
After years of people asking, "When will you go to Acadia?" we finally did! Technically, we had been once before but it was the shortest of visits and before we had our goal to hike every mile. And so in Summer of 2024, we chose to spend six nights in the park. Our friend Hitch joined us at our campsite and on most of our hikes. And in eventual episodes, you'll see our friend Jordan from Maine ...
Five Days of Hiking in Shenandoah National Park

This summer was some of the same and yet completely different. We managed to cram an east coast road trip into the part of summer between Memorial Day and a June move to Tulsa, OK. It was awesome. East coast summers are sticky and humid but we got really lucky with the only real rain coming through at night while we slept. It was great fun to see 'our part' of the county in summer while still h...
Forney Ridge and the 23 Mile Day
Переглядів 1324 місяці тому
In this episode, we say goodbye to our place of refuge for nearly 15 years. Moving partly across the country means we'll have to find new places to get out in nature and we had lots of feels about it throughout this hike. There's still about 10% of the miles in the Smokies left, so we will be back. But it won't be home. We are Kelly & Michelle of Drive Hike Repeat. A few years ago we decided to...
Finishing Congaree National Park and Done with Park 15
Переглядів 264 місяці тому
In 2024, we turned our sights toward getting miles completed in bigger parks. Long term, this should serve us well but it made our goal of finishing one park a year seem a bit less likely to happen. Thankfully, we had one smaller hike left to do in Congaree National Park and we found an open weekend where the trails were not flooded to drive down and knock it out. Park 15, done! We are Kelly & ...
Snow on Snake Den Ridge

In early April, we saw two consecutive days with no rain in the forecast in the Smokies and we jumped at the chance to get out and do two day hikes out of the Cosby area. Despite anticipated lows in the 30s, we figured we'd be able to enjoy our time outside. After hiking the flooded Old Settlers Trail a few weeks before, we were a little worried about heading to the park after several rainy day...
51 Creek Crossings in 16 Miles on the Old Settlers Trail
Переглядів 555 місяців тому
After a month of work travel and with big decisions on the horizon, we were desperate enough to take off for a hike despite a week of heavy rains. The miles of the Old Settlers Trail were calling our names so pulled a trick out of our old AT section hiking days and booked a shuttle. Anxious to make sure we got to the shuttle driver on time, we took off in the dark by the light of our headlamps....
