Save the Hope St Bus (Keep Our Hope Alive) - 5 min doco
The Hope Street Bus follows a 2km route in West Brunswick
It has strong patronage: 50% above the Melbourne average (boardings per service km).
Approximately 60% of passengers are elderly citizens.
Many of these passengers are unable to walk to "alternative" bus routes.
After over 50 years of community service WHY MUST THE BUS STOP?
A short campaign documentary by Amanda Kerley and Kim Munro for the Hope St Bus community. Camera Buff Movie Makers 2012. Please share.

Save bus
yes i was referring to hope aged care (on the elbow of lux way, about halfway between victoria and hope st), i didn't know about the other 2 facilities. i couldn't say how often it is empty for sure, but i'm certain it's never full! the bus is huge for such a narrow street as hope (2 cars can't even pass eachother in opposite directions on some parts of the road). it's a short route too, perhaps the service could be replaced with an accessible minivan or some vehicle less wasteful .. ?
to be fair, the aged care facility is equally as close to victoria st as it is to hope st. i lived on hope st for 2 years, and it seemed 9 times out of 10 the bus was completely empty - kind of a waste of resources and fossil fuels if you ask me.
Such a great tribute to the bus and its community. Congratulations to you all. The bus must be saved!! Good luck
Beautiful documentary. In a time when it is known that we need to improve and extend our public transport system, it is completely 'irrational' to consider suspending this service. We have shared the doco.
Save the Bus! We cannot forget the elderly who need a little help as the world gets faster and more independent. Great little doco guys, hope it kicks their buts.
Shane, at the end: "It's an odd thing as you get older: You learn about loneliness ... *tap* .. thanks Jim." Damn near broke my heart. Bloody beautiful piece of work. I've got the feeling this bus will be running for a while yet.
Here here!! Is there a petition we can sign? Beautifully made docco.
