02 Introduction to finding angles using trig ratios
THANKYOU
As a rule of thumb, an area in sqf amounts to about 11 times that in sqm. So, it's about 550sqf. That's because 1 foot is about 0.3 metres, which means there are about 3.3 feet in a metre. By squaring that number, you get 11.1, which is just a little over how many sqf there are in a sqm
I feel like the realtor really shoulda been able to figure that out…
Rough calculation in my head. 3 meters is approx 10 feet and 1 meter is even rougher about 3 feet, so it's easier to work with multiples of 3. For 4.5 I'll use 3m×1.5 and for 11 I'll use (3m×4)-1. Replace the 3m with 10ft and 4.5×11 meters is about 15×(40-3) feet. Distributing so (15×40)-(15×3) would be 600-45 or about 555 sq ft. Plugging into the unit converter in my phone gives 4.5m = 14.76ft and 11m = 36.09ft, which gives 532.69 sq ft. My estimate was just a bit over.
I read "square footage" and expected this video to have a 1:1 aspect ratio.
El pepe 🤑🥵😩
I'm useless at maths. But enjoy watching your video and explanation. Just one thing If Metric is metres. Shouldn't English/imperial system be yards? ( just curious. And I know the question was how many square feet not. Square yards. )
For whatever reason, sizes of houses are always referred to in square feet, but I agree with you that yards would definitely be a closer comparison to meters than feet are.
Phil’s honestly a vibe
Love how they're trying to figure it out in their heads instead of pulling out a phone and using a calculator, or just Googleing it.
Well played! I actually have a cover of this song too as well as tons of videos extracting John Lennon's contributions
Around 500 sqf
By the Way is this like average? it feels really small to me even for just one person
This isn't realistic; she's a STEM major, she should know a thing or two about meters. I get she's American, but the metric system is used in all STEM classes in America.
Just use pythagorean thereom
US needs Indians
Damn, Alex looking fine!
My gut feeling was about 500 lol. IE 4.5x 11 is around 50, and sq meter => sq ft is about 10x
That’s pathetic. 4.5 x 11? Every math short cut lover knows any 2 digit number times 11 is … split the number then insert middle figure of the 2 digits added together. So 4.5 times 11 is 4 then 9 (4+5) then 5, thus 495 and the decimal stays in 10ths so 49.5 sq meters. Weird the Alex character should nail that one. Weak math. Guess it’s just a tv show and the actors are only as good as the writers material.
She's asking for square feet, because 'Merica.
Phil more interested in the fly 😂
4 and a half by 11?...Hhhmmm small?
Was there ever a point in the show when Alex wasn’t bossy, and snarky
That's her character 🌚
@@Shan-do3vs Yuhh no shit. Do you think you’re having some kind of mic drop moment? I know it’s her character, she’s written as completely unlikeable, with practically zero change through out the entire shows life span.
@@Lava91point0 bruh... Alex is my favorite character in the entire series😄 my sister is exactly like Alex and I can totally relate😂😂 honestly you can find a lot of people like alex😈
@@Shan-do3vs Rick Sanchez was right I guess, smart people are just mean
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 hi Lennon goid job guys u sound great!
Hi Mike, great explanation. Please could you explain how the Phase 2 cards work? I've found the game but there are no instructions. Thanks.
Can you do the second pack of cards please, different rules I think. Thanks
Why would Alex even ask them? She knows she is the only one that could’ve come up with the answer. Alex rocks.
Maybe because her dad is a realtor
And shouldn't she have been able to figure that out in her head, given what we're supposed to know about the character?
@@TheGenXer okay yes true Alex is a genius fair point
@@TheGenXer I mean yes mathematically and logically but her Phil is a realtor and Claire is in the closet business so I guess they’re supposed to know if that’s good or no?
@@aresmurphy436 why isn't an intelligent person able to open a browser and get Google to crunch the conversion? FFS. Uni students are feeble.

Good God People. The math is the same no matter the unit of measure.
This is a great video! A lot of fun questions!

Amazing ❤️❤️❤️Good Work 👍🏽👌🏽God bless you guys 🙏🏽
Such a small apartment
For one person, that's absolutely ok, size wise.
@@slouberiee no.
450sq.ft
People be like US In a nutshell, like bro, we dont use the metric system
We know, it's not that we believe you have weak math but that metric systems ain't on your radar
Alex should be able to calculate this, she's a god damned physicist. She works in SI every day and living in the US she is converting shit all the time. I always hated the fact that this show would break its own continuity for the sake of a joke. This is really weak.
What are you talking about? Didn't you see in the clip that she was later going to solve it
@@kenechukwuaniagboso4583 What I am talking about is she should have already known the answer and not have needed to ask. It is 4.5m x 11m so that is a little less than 50 square meters, to convert from square meters to square feet you multiply by a little over 10 so the two "littles" mostly cancel out leaving a bit over 500 square feet (533). I mean shit the numbers are so simple it is literally impossible for her not to be able to do it in her head. This show sucks at maintaining character integrity. She is a physicist, she does calculous in her head day in and day out. This is just lazy writing.
@@Cyril29a bro I don't care about your response, it was clearly stated in that scene that she would do it and the purpose of that scene was to add humor to it. If that's not fine with you then so be it and then you can continue to obsess over a scene in a sitcom like you are some petulant child.
It’s really bad writing.
@@kenechukwuaniagboso4583 Cy is right, Alex should have been able to calculate this in her head.
How to get a quick estimate as mental math: round 4 1/2 up to 5, 11 down to 10. 5*10 = 50. One square meter is a little over ten square feet, so a little over 500 square feet.
hmmmm I learned something on youtube?? How does this work...do I owe you money now. I'm actually gonna write that down. 1m^2 ~ 10 sq. feet
You skip a step, you have to convert meters to square meters and then multiply square meters to square feet
@@alski200 I did convert to square meters in the third step, where I multiply width and length.
@@g.mitchell7110 My bad and you rounded up, my fault
she is fiiine
Now you feel my pain as a non american watching american shows or home design videos.
4.5m x 11m is approximately 15' x 36', so the square footage is ~540 SF
US in a nutshell...
Well tbf if you grow up on kmh or meters it’s hard to transition to mph and feet

haha awesome !
This should be the one thing Phil should know how to calculate immediately. He’s a goddam realtor.
not in meters
So? Alex is in goddamn Caltech.

Thank you for the video!
Solution for this problem is for 'mericans do get metric
If only it didn’t cost billions of dollars it would be great. NASA alone estimated it would take them 370 million to convert.
@@royce9018 Doesnt mean that america cant convert
@@kairin5333 but it's a huge cost with little benefit
@@royce9018 I love how you already know of all the benefits it will bring and how you decide americas entire fate depending on the expenses of a single company
@@kairin5333 I'm not sure if your dense or a troll...
thats just lazy writing.... alex not knowing metric system... yeah right
What are you talking about? Didn't you watch in the clip that she was going to solve the problem herself
What an amazingly unfunny show. I don't know if you can even try to be this blatantly unfunny. It's weird.
It stoped being funny when it reached its peak in season 5
ok, officer. whatever you say.
@@Howyaduing Nah, just say that it did for you
