Awesome video. I look forward to watching your other videos. I am working up here for a short time and this was very informative!
Thank you! That's great to hear! I hope you enjoy your time in the area!
@ are you local. What other places would you recommend? I went to greeter falls a few days ago.
@macigirl5226 Yes, I'm in the Chattanooga area. Have you been to Foster Falls yet? It's one of my favorites. Also Stone Door. I have videos for those places as well.
@@exploringchatt no I haven’t been there. I’ve only been to greeter falls. I went to sycamore falls yesterday and decided it was too cold and I wasn’t prepared for it 😂. If you like getting out in the cold, maybe could go sometime.
@macigirl5226 Yah, definitely wait for a 50°-65°F day. Those are the best weather days. We're also entering waterfall season! We get the most rain in mid-winter through early-spring so it's getting close to time for visiting all the waterfalls to see them in their full glory.
Pizzeria Cortile is homophobic trash
Nice video. Looks like it was a fun adventure. 🤠
Thanks! It was!
👍 job enjoyed watching thanks
@@dpmart3275 Thanks, I appreciate it!
Thanks for the tour 🎉
I wish you would say where it’s located in the beginning.
I always share exact locations in my blog posts because it's easier that way to make sure you have the correct location info as well as other tips like directions or anything else you might need to know before visiting these places.
I have been to Crossville Buc-ee’s several times. I appreciate this video. I will be going to Pelham, TN for Cavefest in October. Probably will checkout the grounds that you guys covered!!!!!
Thanks! Yes, it's an underrated area!
I’m from there it’s G creek.
Ah! Thanks for clarifying! That does make more sense. Like "oh gee, it's a creek" 🤣
LOL "Pause if you want to read"
I wish I knew about this - I always forget it I guess I better watch the news more - livin in chatt
Mark your calendar for next year then!
@@exploringchatt That would be a good idea when is it next year?
It's always the first Thurs-Sat in August. So for 2025 it's Aug 7-10.
A+
Awesome
Did you find good deals?
Unfortunately I didn't get to go this year, and when I went last year I didn't get anything because I wasn't really looking for/needed anything. But there's definitely some good stuff out there every year!
Your so pretty and i like ur personality. This video was so nice.I loved how you tiook us to the piggly wiglly!!! Awesome shirt you got ! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🙂❤️
Thanks i live in Crossville TN and its going to be a crazy weekend 😂 127 sale makes the area a lot of money
Yes, it gets busy, but it's also a good thing for everyone.
Beautiful lake, is it man made? nice short video hope all is well.
Yes, it is. The Tenneessee River flows through here but there was a lot of flooding downtown so they made a dam that created this lake here.
Im sold! Taking my family hiking here tomorrow!
YES! Perfect for this hot weather! I hope y'all enjoy!
You need to be careful. There are rattlesnakes and copperhead on that trail. And you need to have someone with you. Always be careful
Thanks! My friend was with me and we were fine! There's snakes like that on all the hiking trails in this area. Always wise to be on the lookout for them everywhere you hike.
nice to see you back
Thanks! Life has been crazy lately, and I haven't had the time to edit and share on UA-cam as much as I used to. Hopefully I'll be able to get back on track one day!
Fun day. Epic waterfalls. Waterrock Knob was a great ending to a perfect day.
Agreed! 🥰
Fall creek falls is my fav place on earth. ❤❤❤
It's such a beautiful place and the campgrounds are great too!
Awesome video! Being outdoors in any wilderness is 100 times better than being in the city. Can’t wait for the next adventure. Happy trails.
Thank you! And I couldn't agree more!
Enjoyed your video of Laurel Falls Trail. And so you have met Arthur :D The hike to Bryan Overlook does include a rock scramble - i think it is fun. The trail is blazed up there - it is a little sketchy in places - especially just before the creek crossing. If there has been a lot of rain that creek can get mid calf or deeper. The view from the top is beautiful. There are 2 views. The first one is easy and on your right. If you follow the narrow trail past it, it will take you out to the other overlook. Happy Trails!
So you know the tales? Haha, he's great to talk to. Oh, ok, thanks for the tips! Hoping to see it next time!
Wes and I so enjoyed meeting you and hiking to the falls with you! Great job on the video, it was fun to relive the hike 👍 We look forward to hiking with you again sometime! 😊
Yes! Thanks for becoming my hiking friends on this one 😊
@@exploringchatt You’re most welcome! 🤗
Awesome hike. The new insta360 camera is a nice touch.
Thanks!
Thank you for sharing. Greetings from West Tennessee ❤
Thanks, I hope it helps when you visit!
What a beautiful hike my friend! Stunning scenery!
Thank you!
Yesss! My favorite local spot!
Definitely one of my favs too!
Amanda, thanks for this. In all my years of school and life in Chattanooga, I never made it to Raccoon Mountain. Not sure why. Now you have given me reason to want to go.
You're not alone! I had another friend tell me she had never been either and she grew up here! Definitely a hidden gem of Chatt.
Such a beautiful place to hike Awesome
Agreed! So many people miss out cause they just hike down from the top instead.
What are there to do at night in Chattanooga?
There's lots of great, local restaurants and bars downtown. I suggest checking out the areas near the river, like Northshore, or the places on Main Street, like Southside.
Great vid! Loved the kitty!
Thanks!
Love your videos!!! We are planning a trip to Chattanooga in mid-October. When was this video filmed?
Thank you! This was actually mid-October of last year! Chattanooga doesn't typically see much color until the end of October, but if you go to the higher elevations like the Smoky Mountains, or here on the Cherohala Skyway, you'll be able to enjoy more fall colors.
@@exploringchatt thanks so much!😀
Amanda, I love FCFSP and this is the best video I have seen that hits all of the highlights. I love Cane Creek too but I have to do the cable trail. My wife says I have a death wish but I remind her how well off she will be when I am gone, thanks to Nationwide. Thanks for your great vlogging.
Hahaha I still have yet to try that one. I want to but I'm too scared. My history with rocks is not good and that's one rocky descent!
There's really honestly only one serious downclimb. It's just steep. But not that long. You could do it, based on what I've seen you do so far.
Thanks for the vote of confidence. I think that one rock climb section is where I stopped a few years ago when my friend and I attempted it. We changed our minds then, haha.
That downclimb is affectionately known as "the gauntlet" but it really isn't terrible. You probably already knew that. Tell you what, you get your friend and I will bring a female friend of mine and we will get y'all to the bottom. Just think, as much as you love the views from the top, you need to see them from down there.
@preacher1511 I've seen so many photos from that spot at the bottom and have longed to try it. Maybe one day I'll be brave enough, haha!
That was a pretty large mushroom. How long was that candle burning for?
I'm not entirely sure but my goal is always to burn until the wax melts all the way to the edge to keep it even. These candles specify not to burn for more than 3 hours at a time.
Hey Amanda! I am having a blast going through all of your old videos and seeing so many places that I have been to myself. Don't know if you have been back to either of these two since this one but there is actually a lot more to see at both. At Foster Falls, you can hike alongside the creek at the top, cross over the creek on a metal bridge way upstream of the falls, and come back around to some excellent relatively flat hiking on the other side. Great views of the falls. This is also the southern terminus of the Fiery Gizzard trail, which is an awesome 13+ mile hike from Grundy Forest in Tracy City. At Greeter Falls, two things. Go during the week. During COVID, which is when you must have gone this first time, it became a water park. I can't stand that. But if you can get away during the week, it would be a LOT less crowded. Also, at the top of the falls, where the trail splits for upper and lower Greeter, you many have noticed a sign pointing to Boardtree Falls. It is only about another half mile down the trail and, on a day like this one, it will be flowing big. It is beautiful and there is a bridge across the top. Hardly anyone goes on down there and it is not hard. There are some ups and downs but largely flat in places. And when you get ready to leave, there is a short stair climb up the hill that is a shortcut back to the parking lot. You can actually hike all the way to Stone Door, if you wanted to. All along the rim, relatively flat, about 5 miles or so. Anyway, happy hiking, thanks for the awesome vids, and God bless.
I knew some of this, but not all, thanks for the tips! I haven't been out there again for a while now but plan to do more there when I can.
You might be able to take a screenshot of your footage and get Google lens to help you identify that snake mine keeps thinking it's a flatworm or something but then I'm also just snapping a grainy photo off of my TV
Thanks for the idea, I need to try that next time! I'm very certain it's a rat snake though. It's definitely not a flatworm, haha, but technology is amazing when it works well!
Amanda, remember the whole top 5 list thing? This one, the entire hike to Virgin Falls, has always been in my top two. I know y'all did this two years ago so I don't know if you've been back but you need to. And go in the Spring when it has rained recently. Virgin Falls is amazing. Ironically, if you had kept going past Big Laurel, it flattens out for about a mile and gives you somewhat of a break, but the descent comes back significantly before you get to Virgin Falls. It's a total of 1,100' in elevation loss/gain. And it's about 8.5 if you just hike to Virgin Falls. If you add the loop to Sheep Cave and add Martha's Pretty Point, which is beautiful, it totals just under 10 miles. And your question about Big Laurel, I love that type of geology. I am also a caver so I don't have a problem with the sinkholes, unless they happen to be full of debris, LOL! I have always made this a day hike but I really want to overnight it. There are some awesome campsites. Besides the one at the creek crossing, and the one at Big Laurel, there is a big one at Martha's Pretty Point and several at Virgin Falls. Thanks for the great video, as always. I have never hiked out to Welch Overlook but it was beautiful. Very similar view at MPP. Be safe and God bless.
We haven't been back yet because it's a LONG day we'll have to plan for or overnight it. Those campsites are such pretty spots too!
Great videoing, Amanda. I am the same as you in that I keep a running top 5. From the first time I did this hike about 4 years ago, it has stayed in my top 5. Done it a half dozen times now, usually taking a buddy with me, and it isn't old yet. Right along the way, before you turn down the mountain, is Sewanee Natural Bridge. If you haven't checked that out, do it next time you go. Be safe and God bless.
Nice! Yes, the Sewanee Natural Bridge is still on my list to check out. I haven't yet and we didn't have time on this day, but I've been to another natural bridge in the area nearby here. That's in one of my more recent videos.
I would love to meet y'all and provide the other vehicle!
There seems to be a lot of interest for this! If you haven't already, join my weekly email newsletter so when I get a group hike organized, you'll be the first to know! Https://exploringchatt.com/join
Amanda, I love this hike. If you ever decide to do it again, you were right at the Perkins Point overlook. It is not marked. The only way I knew where to look was I downloaded the map from AllTrails. When you came out of the pine forest, you circled left, climbing the ridge a little more towards that rock outcrop that you thought was the overlook. But the trail curves back to the right, then in a couple hundred yards, does a switchback to the left and starts a descent towards Little Possum Creek. It is just before you get to the switchback, off the trail 100' or so to the left. It is not very big, just an unmarked outcrop of rock. But you are looking due west into the western Smokies and the day you did it, you could see all the way to Tellico Plains. I went on to descend the ridge to Little Possum Creek, ascend the ridge on the other side, and in a couple more miles, descend again to cross Little Possum Creek, hike another 1.5 miles, and end up at Immodium Falls. Very beautiful waterfall. If you continue on the trail from Immodium Falls, it's about another 3.5 to 4 miles till you will come to the end at the Retro Hughes Road trailhead, however, there are no more steep climbs. That is a total hike of about 9 miles. But of course I was by myself and didn't stage it as a point-to-point so I had to turn around and hike back to the Heiss Mtn trailhead, over all those darn climbs again. That made the trail just a little over 10 miles. I felt your pain! But I love that trail. Next time, I will do it with someone and we will stage it as a point-to-point. I hate out-and-backs as much as you hate creek crossings.
Yes! I can't imagine going from one trailhead to the next and having to go back because you have no second vehicle and driver 😅 all that up and down was insane! My friend and I would like to do it again and complete it as a point to point. Hopefully one day we can plan that!
New York Pizza Company is the best I have had in Chattanooga
New York Pizza Department is good, but they closed down their location on 153. Now they have a full restaurant in Lakesite that serves more than just pizza.
@@exploringchatt just followed you on Instagram
Amanda, you are so spot on about the confusion of all of these trails. I have hiked a good bit on Suck Creek Mountain and parts of it are confusing. Thanks to some friends of mine who got VERY turned around up here a few years ago, I did my research before the first time I did this trail. I hiked past Blowing Wind Falls to the junction of the Pot Point Loop, Cumberland Trail, Davis Pond Campground Trail, and the Mullins Loop Trail. I kept going straight for .8 mile to Davis Pond Campground, just to see what it was like. I won't do that again, not that much to it. Came back to the junction, turned north on the combination CT and Mullins Loop Trail to Snoopers Rock, then back to the trailhead on River Canyon Road, total of just under 9 miles. That junction is what messed my friends up. The signage wasn't as good when they hiked it and they turned south on the Pot Point Loop, instead of north. They hiked all the way to the other side of the PPL, turned right, and hiked uphill until they crossed Game Reserve Road. Not sure if that was Game Reserve Road, they backtracked and missed the junction where they came into the PPL. They kept going all the way down the mountain and ended up bushwhacking back to River Canyon Road, where they were able to figure out which way took them back to the trailhead. They ended up hiking about 17 miles and ran out of water and daylight. Hey, I would love to join you in a group hike sometime. You have done a LOT of the same trails that I have and you probably know others that I haven't found. Glad I found your channel. Be careful and God bless.
Oh wow, that sounds like an absolute nightmare! Really planning and learning the trail map beforehand is key to a succesful hike. Honestly, I forget to do that sometimes, as my videos demonstrate, haha, but I always make sure to have a map with me too. I have a pretty good sense of direction which helps, but I know some people don't and get turned around easily. Currently I'm not planning any group hikes, but if I ever do, I'll definitely announce it in my weekly email newsletter first. If you haven't already, you can sign up for free here: exploringchatt.com/join
Amanda, this post is awesome. As much time as I spend in Chattanooga, I never knew there was a "Burger Week." I come down for the Santa Claus Pub Crawl but I have never known about Burger Week. Until now. Thank you so much. I will say that my favorite burger is the Dr. Gonzo from Jack Brown's. Add a fried egg. Haven't been there in a while, I assume they still have it. Mmmm. Thanks for this post and God bless.
Yes! Mark your calendar for next year! April 15-21, 2024. I have yet to try Jack Brown's, I need to!
I know this is 2 years old, but wow! Great information! I’m a just-beginning lavender and flower farmer. It was great hearing their thoughts! I often paused the video to look up things as you were talking. Thank you!
I'm glad you found it helpful! Alice and Bill still grow lavender every year and sometimes they have classes to help you learn more about growing it yourself. If you're local to the area, I highly recommend reaching out to them through their website to learn more about these oppourtunities.
Just saw this, lots of information. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching and sharing the feedback!
Hey Amanda, Preacher here. Honestly, you didn't miss as much as Adam might think you did. Raising Cane's is chicken tenders. They're good but they're still chicken tenders. How much can you do with that? The place y'all ate looks better anyway, more variety. Can't beat a good burger and/or wings. Have y'all ever been to Big South Fork? Lots to do there. Good camping and hiking. Highly recommend.
I know we still gotta try Raising Canes, and I have since been told their sauce is the only thing worthwhile, but yes, where we ate in Crossville was amazing and I would definitely go back if I'm near there again!
Amanda, I just found your channel yesterday and, from someone who has hiked all over Chattanooga and the surrounding areas for the past 40 years, I love your vlogging. On this subject, I know you limited this to three but I have to say, how could you leave out Snooper's Rock in Prentiss Cooper? Likely because you were focusing on showing the city, although it does to a certain extent. And I'll give you Point Park, although I love Sunset Rock just a mile to the south because it's basically the same view and less commercial. I would love to hike with you and any groups you might hike with sometime.
Thank you! And yes, that's correct, I was sharing the best mountaintop views of downtown Chattanooga. I've shared about Snooper's Rock and Sunset Rock too, but in different videos. Since you can't see downtown from either of those locations, I didn't include them in this video.
When you get to the junction with the "Waterfall 1 mile, Denny West, Denny East" trail sign, you really should take the Denny West trail sometime. It will take you along the bluff to the climbing walls below the overlook. Very scenic, plus you often get to see climbers doing their thing.
Thanks! I'll have to check that out next time for sure!
TY
one of my favorites as well. i like doing it best in the winter months when all the leaves are down and you can see farther. and it cools you off some after the ascent. i love the feeling of the cool air as you descent to the mouth of the cave after working up a sweat. when you enter the mouth of the cave if you go right and climb up the rocks you will exit out of Peters cave. Might be best to do that with friend when you do that, just in case you twist an ankle or something. You got a great picture at 6:36. Reminds me of a skeleton. Every time I get to that point I think, please dont let me slip and hit my tail-bone on that.
Yes! It's amazing how cool it is at the bottom and in the cave. I didn't realize the two were connected! I need to go back and check that out! And yes, that rock climb down is scary!
i just wanted to say that i am going through some hard times physically and emotionally, your videos have been a tremendous help. Thank you so much and keep doing what you are doing.
Aww, thanks, I appreciate that. I'll be praying for you. I know life can be hard, but God is there to help us through if you'll allow Him to.
