There is evidence for continuous sheep husbandry in the Western Balkans over the last several millennia. The seasonal migration from upland in Summer to lowland in Winter has probably always been part of that system.

@@richardcarlton3228 yeah, they walk thru half of Bosnia just to feed the sheeps in the cold Winter. They are looking for grass for baby sheeps. In the history sheepherds walk to Serbia, Croatia, some sheepherds were going to Hungarian. In Travnik sheepherds in Sumer get in the Mountain Vlašić with their sheeps, they are making probably the best cheese in the world there, that's because Vlašić have lot od endemic grass that you can find only on Vlašić. I live in Travnik too, my family is the Group of traditional sheepherds like this, this man lives not far away from me🙂 Im sorry if I'm bad in English

I was in Travnik a long time ago when I filmed pottery-making at Pulac near Turbe - ua-cam.com/video/uZk1nyC_arE/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/C9UzeO5bIR0/v-deo.html I admire and respect traditions such as shepherding in Bosnia, and I believe we should be learning from them. My wife’s family was also involved in this kind of work 100 years ago around Bileca in Hercegovina. I would be interested to know how far these shepherds travel these days and if it it getting harder with permissions, etc. Maybe I could visit you when I come to Bosnia again(?) Thanks Richard

@@richardcarlton3228 , I understand. I thought you were from Bosnia and that's why I asked. I am Romanian and our traditions, ancient customs, breeds of sheep and shepherd dogs are very similar.

I am not from Bosnia but my wife is and I have spent a lot of time there. I also speak Bosnian. You’re right that Bosnia and Romania share many traditions (I was in Iasi, Sueceava, Brasov and Oltania) - which should be protected, or at least recorded

Thank you Matthias, The liquid solution is not milk, but flour and water. Milk is used elsewhere for the same purpose, though, as in Jordan (also in connection with calcite-tempered pottery). This immersion or ‘quenching’ is done when the pots are still red hot from the fire. It’s purpose is partly to seal the pots and partly to blacken them…. but it also protects the pottery fabric against lime-spalling. Yes, they are usually used with something starchy to seal them. And, Regarding rancid pots - they do sometimes smell! But this can be rectified by putting them in the fire. Thank you for your interest Richard

Napustili 2 godine poslije ovog snimka na nagovor Krajišnika i Karadžića koji su prijetili svim Srbima koji bi eventualno ostali sa Bošnjacima da ce im nauditi faniliji bez obzir što su napustili grad i nastanili sebu tzv rs. Vidio sam na početku snimka, mali vojni kamion koji juri iz pravca Vjećnice prema negdje, možda prema predsjedništvu ili dalje prema kasarni "Maršal Tito" (u tom pravcu je kasarna) ili...ko zna, na ukopavanje negdje ili je već bio na okolnim brdima i prenjeo naoružanje ili bio u osmatranju...ko zna? Sprmali su se. Tada su nekad održani prvi višepartijski izbori u tada još uvijek postojećoj a danas odavno nepostijećoj SFRJ - ili su trebali d budu održani. Ne znam... Kraj mira se nazirao. To su bili predznaci kijameta koji se približavao...Covječe, kako jedan obični vojni kamiončić koji tada nije ništa značio, danas, sa ove distance, budi avete prošlosti i srklet.. Poput TLN , kojima smo se smijali do 1991 a danas skoro 30 god od kraja agresije givorimo "Jebo majku, sve su predvidjeli" i nije nam do smijanja...
