What's Your Grief
Приєднався 26 сер 2014
We are two Baltimore-based mental health professionals with 25+ combineed years of experience in grief. More importantly, we've both experienced multiple losses - both death and non-death - and have dealt with life after. Neither of us knew what resources were available to us at the time, and those we could find just didn't resonate with what we needed. We fumbled through the darkness alone but later found there were a lot of other people like us - people grieving who were looking for reliable, concrete, creative information for coping with grief, without all the pastel colors, butterflies, tilted heads and soft voices. For this reason, we started the website, What's Your Grief back in 2012. It's a place where we delve into anything and everything grief-related and where people can come to support and be supported. We call it 'grief support for the rest of us'. If you think you might be the rest of us, we hope you'll stick around.

Grief Passed Down
What's your earliest memory of grief in you family of origin? In this episode we talk about the way that grief passes down through generations, through the culture grief that is created in our families. We consider the ways that the grief of our parents and caregivers has an impact on us, just as the grief of their parents and caregivers had an impact on them. We talk a little bit about our own family grief histories, and offer some food for thought when reflecting on your own intergenerational grief.

Moving Forward Challenges (in the New Year and Beyond)
Im on day 3 of sobriety from alcohol after about 8 years and the grief is hitting me pretty hard today, I googled and came across this episode. Thank you so much 🙏🏽🥺
Sending many good thoughts! It isn't easy and the feelings of grief are so tough. But sobriety opens up the space for so many good things. One day at a time 💕💕
I live in Florida but belong to a great UK bereavement group online. The sharing, venting, knowing how others are dealing with their loss has been really good for my journey. "Sue Ryder" has helped me feel accepted within my emotional rollercoaster.
I have been working with your journaling and it has forced me to look closely and attentively to my grief. It's taking quite some time to complete those thirty days because I have to walk away and breathe. But journaling has been a big part of my life and this focused grief journaling is an amazing tool. Thank you for providing this much needed resource that I did find by pure accident while having a grief attack and google searching.
Grief journalling was so important to me after my partner died that when I broke my writing wrist I had a complete breakdown. The power of journalism cannot be underestimated in any way. I still do it occasionally for him amd others and have online memorial sites I can add to or light a candle but writing slows my ADHD brain down enough to think Thank you so much for everything you do. The grief culture in UK is terrible. You guys are great ❤
Ah thanks for the kind words - I'm so glad that journaling has been helpful for you (though sorry the wrist injury derailed it!). I don't know too many of the UK grief resources, but a UK grief podcast we love is the Grief Gang.
@@whatsyourgrief thank you I will look out for that. Thanks for all you do x
Hi have you ever done anything around ambiguous grief through parental alienation. Something worth covering, I’ve been dealing with this for years.
Thank you so much! I really, really needed to hear this Podcast today. You gave me some great comfort and insight to my family estrangement. I don't know that it will ever be alright again, but I do know that there is hope. God bless you!
As a mother who lost a son to an accidental overdose at 20 years old, and who also had a lot of experience with other losses and betrayals I thought this was very fair and well balanced. Not that I heard the episode 9 years ago but I do want to thank you for revisiting the topic.
I am always saying what used to be easy & didn't cause anxiety, seem much harder now
I still feel like a robot most days
I'm going into my 6th year from the loss of my husband. I have just started trying to plan my mealtimes.
Thank you acknowledging this
Yes, some without guests get straight to it. I prefer it. I personally cannot finish long videos often. And as an introvert, idle chitchat kind of bugs me. Everyone's time is valuable. We should understand that more after dealing with grief.
My new year's goal is to be happier 😊
I always get something from your broadcast.
ah thanks for the kind words. Glad they have been helpful ❤️

Thank you 🙏🏼 for sharing your knowledge about this topic
Great 😊 service
I lost my mom in 2020 and even though 3 yrs. have passed, the holidays are incredibly hard for me. I lost my brother on New Years day. When you have no family left holidays are so painful & you have no desire to celebrate them. They are a constant reminder of families being together. I just want them to be over. What do you do when you are all alone? 💔
I'm remembering a number of loved ones. What brought me to Bereavement/Grief support was the death of my wife of 45 years; 6 years ago, today December 8, 2023. I recognized a mission field and joined one and began another bereavment ministry at my parish. I've self-published 2 books based on my perspective as a caregiver and then, the sequel. Since I lost my wife, i lost a brother 10 months later, my best friend 2 years later, my brother-in-law (another best friend) 3 years later, our 45 year old daughter 3 years later, another best friend 42 months later, and my last best friend 4 years later. I'm here to absorb perhaps other avenues of support to offer through the 2 bereavement ministries I'm involved with. My wife died during advent/feast day of Immaculate Conception and so holidays that year were a blur, i was stunned, in shock. the following year is when it really hit me. I'm here to continue learning
Thank you for this!❤
tremendously helpful...thank you.
'Penny' A novel by Daniel Quill: "What if people who have passed away could occasionally visit their loved ones on Earth? James was a plumber who had everything he ever wanted: a happy family. Then one day, he lost his daughter in an accident when she was only five years old. His family broke apart in the wake of the tragedy. He spent many years living with his grief, until one night, when he was at his lowest ebb, an angel offered him a glimpse of hope. Wendy, his daughter, has grown up in Heaven among people who love and care for her. She enjoys her heavenly life, but has a desire to see her family back on Earth again, and to let them know she is safe and well. One day, she is granted her wish. This is a heart-wrenching and heart-warming story that explores the theme of the eternal soul. Fans of literature and intrigue will enjoy this inspiring and emotional novel, as they discover the truth about the mysterious angel. This is the debut novel by Daniel Quill. He has spent a number of years gradually crafting this compelling story that might, just possibly, touch your soul." Great content as always
Thank you for your podcasts and all the work you all do <3 I think when in grief we learn even small shifts in the words can make a difference. Moving on from grief is something I heard a lot before.. that is so different to me than moving forward.

Thank you for this. Where can we get the before and after lists?
I'm listening to my two long-time, adorable, talented, compassionate and magical grief friends, Litsa and Eleanor. I want only to hear, see, read more of what you have to say and write. Thank you for your big hearts and your work. I saw the link to the grief community but I don't have a password because i can't see where to create an account. When you get a moment, a little direction to that page would be great. xo
I'd love you to stick to one topic, one aspect of grief and present a short episode on that, with a minimal amount of waffling- as on this episode!😂 This one could have been done in 5-10 minutes!🤣
haha fair. As we say in every format we create content in, if you're looking for brevity we're rarely going to satisfy you! Never been our strong suit. But we'll work on it :)
@@whatsyourgriefThank you for your lovely reply. 😊🥰
Initial expectations about how grief was going to go? I wouldn't have been able to answer that coherently. So much shock and trauma. From memory, my biggest thoughts were yearning to join him. Nearly 3 years later, they haven't changed much...
Part way in. Yes, it wasn't a good idea for me to acquire 2 rescue kittens a month after my son died. 20/20 vision in hindsight. 😬
Thank you soooo much for all you do!! I'm sooo grateful for WYG and tell everybody I know going through a loss about you!! XOX
Episode ideas I would love to hear! Using Creativity to process work through grief, how grief impacts the body, continuing bonds
Thank you for the work you do and great episode! <3

Loved this.
Never been 1st at anything before. Oh and Happy New Year from Australia. Love you both. 😁💕
