Must be a very rare promo item. Strange that the picture on the poster doesn't show the Seaview or any of the regular cast of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. Fun show to watch!
I think that's supposed to be the Admiral. He was captured in the episode.
Very cool black and white poster! Have a great day Johnny!👍✌️
Thanks Sean!
Such a great show watching in the 1960s.
I still watch em from time to time on dvd.
Funky Billy Chin, Little Sammy Chong… and the always amazing Carl Douglas, still at number one! Thanks so much, Johnny for the Saturday fun!
Thanks for the visit!
Carl Douglas continues fighting and remains atop the Hot 100 for a second week with “Kung Fu Fighting”. Three Degrees inch closer to the pinnacle and are now at #2 with “When Will I See You Again”. In three short weeks on the chart, Elton John blasts into the Top Ten with his rendition of “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” at #9. It’s John’s tenth Top Ten hit in four years. The often misunderstood song, which many people believed was a reference to drugs due to the “LSD” in the title is actually a simple simple song about a childhood painting by John Lennon’s son Julian about a girl in the air surrounded by gems. Paul McCartney now has a double-sided recording as “Sally G” gets listed along with “Junior’s Farm” at #10. It’s McCartney’s seventh Top Ten listing in a row. Elvis Presley now has his highest charting hit since “Burning Love” peaked at #2 over two years ago as “Promised Land” heads up to #14. George Harrison scores another Top 40 solo record as “Dark Horse” gallops up to #32. It’s two Top 40 hits in a row for Donny and Marie Osmond as their version of “Morning Side Of The Mountain” rises to #34. Guess Who have their fourteenth Top 40 hit as “Dancin’ Fool” shakes up to #38. Bo Donaldson & The Heywoods have their third Top 40 hit in a row as “The Heartbreak Kid” scrapes its way to #39. Thanks to John Lennon’s latest record remaining at #40 this week, all four ex-Beatles are in the Top 40 at the same time, stationed at numbers 10, 18, 32 and 40. Mac Davis takes his version of Rock ‘N Roll” up 37 big notches to #50 as Terry Jacks’ lasted only one week on the chart with the song, peaking at #97 last week. Davis has now surpassed the original by Kevin Johnson, which stalled at #73 in 1973. Anyway you listen to it and by whom, it’s a great tale of the difficulties of becoming a star in the recording industry. Grand Funk remakes an obscure song from the 1960’s and has the highest debut on the Hot 100 this week with “Some Kind Of Wonderful” at #67. The original version, entitled “(She’s) Some Kind Of Wonderful” was written by Canadian-American musician John Ellison and made it to #91 on the chart by his R&B band Soul Brothers Six in 1967. O’Jays, who haven’t been on the chart since “For The Love Of Money” are back with “Sunshine Part II” at #75. The “Fifth Beatle” joins the other four on the Hot 100 this week as Billy Preston returns with the instrumental “Struttin’” at #80. Maybe if Lennon can stall a little longer and Preston can make a huge leap, all five of them will be in the Top 40 at the same time. Rod Stewart, whose chart action has been sporadic since his monster hit “Maggie May”, is back with the self-produced and Paul McCartney-written “Mine For Me” at #93. Chicago rock band Styx have their second entry on the chart as “Lady” debuts at #95. Their only other listing was “Best Thing” which made it to #82 in 1972. Splinter, an English duo produced by George Harrison, have their first Hot 100 chart item with “Costafine Town” at #96. And Michael Holm, a singer/songwriter/musician and record producer from Germany debuts with “When A Child Is Born” at #97. The song is considered to be a Christmas recording although no specific reference to the holiday is mentioned. The number one album this week was “Greatest Hits” by Elton John. Next week…a cat claws its way to the top. A bulldog makes the chart. And the King Of The Cowboys scores a hit. Only two weeks left in 1974. Any guesses as to what the number one song and album of the year was back then? Stay tuned to Johnny’s weekly videos!
Thank you!
Does it not function? Why didn't you shoot it?
No , does not work the air bladder in it won't hold air.
Loved these MAttel USA when I was a kid ,see in the UK was unusual to get USA toys in shops, The local Toy shop must of visited USA trips bring back many usa toys to his shop ,AFX,Mattel,Marx ,loved Man in Space, many happy hours building moon bases ..lol Some sets noticed slightly different in UK VS USA ,think MAttel must ofended up doing carded UK versions, same as GI Joe was ACtionman but in different carded box. Callisto was my Fav figure! this was 1969-1972,I just wish Mattel USA would release these agin for collectors and alike! I also wondered how cool it would been to visit the MAttel toy factory in USA when I was a kid,we never had google maps, only imgination and what info gleamed of the instruction booklets back then..lol Was a different world back then... I wished MAttel had done a gemini 2 man capsule for figures ,still love spacfe stuff but miss man in space toys .. Ive always wonder if the HQ of MAttel still in orignal place ? FAB vid, brought back a lot of good memories..thanks. rob over the pond..
Thank you for your comments.🙏
Wow! These are very cool. I remember that movie when I was a kid. It used to freak me out.
Yes! Very spooky for a kid!
That was a solid top 10! Something tells me that Ringo will go down quickly. It's not that it's bad, I like it, but it's a novelty song in my humble opinion and once you heard it a few times it's nothing special. I was very surprised to see it at # 1 last week.
oh No!😄
G'day Johnny, shame you put the Bren with the Driver, should have gone on the left side as there is a Slit in the armour to put it, apart from that nice job!
Oh gosh!
I remember trilogy of terror one episode had that little doll warrior dude that ran around with a tiny knife and terrorized the woman in her apartment!
That's the Zuni Fetish Doll, He's made as a collectible figure too! He's real scary !!
Those are some strange looking figures! Thanks for the show Johnny! Have a great day!👍✌️
They are! It was a spooky movie to see when I was a kid!
This is the first time I've seen this model. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching!
Very cool transporter! That looks hard to build! Have a great Sunday Johnny!👍✌️
Thanks Sean, you too!
Very nice Johnny! Have a great weekend!👍✌️
You too Sean!
🥋CARL DOUGLAS! YOU DID IT! I HAD FAITH IN YOU!! 😂
👊
I don't remember or know at least half the songs in the top 10.
Some don't ring a bell until maybe I hear them.
Jamaican born Carl Douglas chops his way to number one with “Kung Fu Fighting”. He originally recorded a song and needed a “flip side” so he wrote a novelty song based on a Japanese martial art form that had a resurgence in the United States thanks to popular Asian actor Bruce Lee and a hit TV show about a traveling philosopher, “Kung Fu” starring David Carradine. DJs preferred the flip side and the record became an international hit selling over six million copies. And that’s how it goes sometimes Grasshopper! Billboard Magazine this week acknowledges Bachman-Turner Overdrive’s double-sided hit by listing the flip side, “Free Wheelin’” at #8. The same can be said for James Brown lower down on the chart at #51. Al Green is back in the Top Ten after over a year as “Sha La La (Make Me Happy)” bounds to #9. And Green is joined by White, Barry White that is as he scores two Top Ten records in a row with “You’re The First, The Last, My Everything” at #10. Chicago seems to be struggling to make the Top Ten as “Wishing You Were Here” spends its second week in a row at #11. The band’s previous four recordings all made the Top Ten. Neil Sedaka has his first Top 20 listing since “Alice In Wonderland” peaked at #17 in 1963, with “Laughter In The Rain” now at #20. J. Geils Band now have their biggest hit as “Must Of Got Lost” jumps to #24. Singer/songwriter/producer Paul Davis from Meridian, Mississippi has his first Top 40 hit as “Ride ‘Em Cowboy” trots up to #33. Gloria Gaynor, also a newcomer to the Top 40, takes her remake of the Jackson 5 recording “Never Can Say Goodbye” to #34. The J5 only inch up one position to #38 with their latest release. It looks like it could be their lowest charting song to date. It’s three in a row for Righteous Brothers as their “Dream On” now sits at #35. Elton John has his thirteenth Top 40 record as his version of the Beatles song “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” reaches #36 in only its second week on the Hot 100. Record producer to Bette Midler, Barry Manilow scores a hit of his own as “Mandy” rises to #37. Carpenters’ fast-moving remake of Marvelettes’ “Please Mr. Postman” has a seventeen point gain up to #39. If John Lennon can remain at #40, or even reverse course, which has been known to happen and George Harrison can move up at least three places, then all four ex-Beatles will be in the Top 40 at the same time next week. Stay tuned…Scottish group Average White Band has the highest debut of the week with the mostly instrumental “Pick Up The Pieces” at #81. Singer/songwriter Kevin Johnson from Australia had a minor hit last year with his take of struggling within the record industry, “Rock And Roll (I Gave You The Best Years Of My Life)”. This week two versions of that song, one by Mac Davis and the other by Terry Jacks debut on the chart. Here’s a hint…one will surpass the original. The other will disappear quite quickly. Canadian artist Carl Graves debuts at #95 with “Baby, Hang Up The Phone”. And band Sugarloaf, now listing Jerry Corbetta in their name are back on the chart after three years with another record about making it in the industry with “Don’t Call Us, We’ll Call You”. The group is mostly known for their big hit record “Green-Eyed Lady” which reached #3 in 1970. Listen carefully and you’ll hear a guitar riff of the Beatles’ “I Feel Fine” in their latest release. The number one album this week was “Greatest Hits” by Elton John. Next week…LSD gets Elton high. A band gets funky with an obscure remake. And a “fifth Beatle” makes the chart. Happy December! Another year almost over. My how time flies!
Thank you!
Saw on Fleccas Talks ep 222 at 1:11:00 12/6/2024
cool!
“ A double barreled return “. ❤!!
Yes!
The Supremes had two songs in the top 10! And what a top ten it was! Surprised to see Lorne Green's Ringo at number 1. But the rest of the top ten is pure gold! The song that grabbed me in the Bubbling Under 100 is Nina Simone's Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood.
Yes!
Still a great issue!!
Yes!
If you noticed, Chuck Berry is Bubbling Under with “Promised Land”. Elvis Presley’s version of that song is currently in the Top 20 on the “fifty years ago” Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Cool!
Very cool design from John Romita for that cover. Romita was my Spidey artist. When I started to read comics as a kid, Amazing Spider-Man was one of the very first title (if not the first) that I grabbed from the old spinner rack. The reruns of the 1967 cartoon was my first introduction to our friendly neighborhood webhead. The same with Batman, the 1966 tv series was how I became a young fan. So, TV came before the comics for me. I first got into comics as a way to get more adventures from my favorites tv stars. As an adult, the reverse is true. I love comics, but like less and less what is on TV or movies. Even more so with comic book adaptations into film: they disappoint me more often then not.
Romita did some cool Spidey covers when I was getting them in the mid 70s.
I have some old family photos of my original Captain Laser that I think I got in 1968 for Christmas, but I might have gotten it in 1970. Super fun toy that I really enjoyed with a complete set of Major Matt Mason items.
Cool! I got mine Christmas 1970.
Carl Douglas is on the move… 🥋!!
🎼Everybody was Kung Fu fighting…HA!🎶
Yes!👊
Billy Swan remains at number one for the second week in a row but the pressure is on as both “Kung Fu Fighting” by Carl Douglas and “When Will I See You Again” by Three Degrees each move up five places within the Top Ten. Bachman-Turner Overdrive reverses course and zooms back into the Top Ten with “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet”…from #34 to #8. At the time of the American Top 40 Countdown, Casey Kasem contacted Mercury Records and sales and marketing representatives and asked about the unusual chart reversal. He was told that sales and airplay had increased significantly as radio stations began playing the instrumental flip side, “Free Wheelin’”. However it was odd that Billboard Magazine did not list the record as a two-sided entry…yet. Helen Reddy scores her fifth Top Ten record as “Angie Baby” is now at #10. The Pointer Sisters are back in the Top 20 as country swinger “Fairytale” reaches #20. Their biggest hit so far was “Yes We Can Can” which made it to #11 in 1973. Three ex-Beatles are now in the Top 40 at the same time as Ringo jumps to #34 with his version of “Only You”. It’s Ringo’s sixth Top 40 solo hit and all of them so far have made the Top Ten. Can George Harrison’s “Dark Horse” race out of the gate and hit the Top 40 section of the chart before John Lennon’s “…Night” fades? Stay tuned. It’s two Top 40 hits in a row for Paul Anka as his duet with Odia Coates, “One Man Woman/One Woman Man” is at #37. It’s been over eleven years since Anka achieved that accomplishment. Stevie Wonder keeps the smashes coming as “Boogie On Reggae Woman” becomes his twenty-ninth Top 40 listing and seventh in a row. Jackson 5 follow their #2 “Dancing Machine” with their sixteenth Top 40 hit as “Whatever You Got, I Want” is at #39. Progressive Rock group Jethro Tull have their second Top 40 charter as “Bungle In The Jungle” rises to #40. Two years earlier they made it to #11 with “Living In The Past”. Although technically not a remake since the song was never released as a single, Elton John scores a big debut with his recording of the popular Beatles song “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” coming on the Hot 100 at #48. Stylistics had a good run with ten Top 40 hits in a row but that comes to an end this week as “Heavy Fallin’ Out” peaked and barely missed by stalling at #41. So close and yet so far. Carol Douglas (no relation to Carl) has a nice debut for a newcomer as her disco dancer “Doctor’s Orders” appears at #79. “Answer Songs” come about every now and then. And such is the case with Barbara Mason’s “From His Woman To You” at #85. Mason and Shirley Brown battle it out as the other woman and the current companion argue over a man. Brown currently is at #26 on the chart. B.B. King and his famous guitar Lucille have been releasing records since the late 1940’s and he’s still reaching the Hot 100, this week with a new entry, “Philadelphia” at #89. That is the true testament and definition of a legend. The number one album this week was “Greatest Hits” by Elton John. Next week…a marital art form fights its way to the top. Green and White become Top Ten colors. And a Rock and Roll pioneer has his biggest hit in over a decade. Happy December…eleven months down and one to go! 🗓️
Thank you😊
Awesome!!! I'm actually trying to find my dad one of these. That one's in incredible shape. I'm just trying to find a loose one in ok shape so he can have it for the memory. He brought it up years ago and I am hoping I can source one for Christmas. Any suggestions on where to look?
Usually at any given time there are some for sale on ebay.
Awesome figure. I love all the outer space toys you've shared on here. Though I was born some time after their heyday, I find something nostalgic about them. Have a happy Thanksgiving, friend!
Thank you, happy Thanksgiving to you too!
Nice list Johnny! Happy Thanksgiving!👍✌️
Thanks Sean! You too!
Very cool figure with the transparency and all. Still on the card too! Sweet! Recent acquisition? It has been a while since your last Matt Mason video. I thought that maybe you have gone through your whole collection.
I got this one earlier this year. I'll post some more MMM vids from time to time in the future.
I like his transparency.
Yes, that's cool!
Love that late war paint scheme
Yes, very cool!
Very cool vintage figure Johnny! Have a great Thanksgiving holiday!👍✌️
Thanks, Sean! You too!
Wow! Super rare! Saw your Major Matt Mason deep dive. You have some great stuff. My second favorite toy in the 60s after G.I.Joe.
Yes, GI Joe, and MMM are my fav toylines!
Amazing
Thank you! Cheers!
Great looking tank model Johnny! Have a great week!👍✌️
Thanks Sean, you too!
Cool!
A very good model, especially for 72 scale. Thanks for the video!
Thank you too!
Too bad that the very small voice unit in this Matt Mason toy had seen better days. The unit is basically a manute "vinyl record" type device with a record needle that falls randomly into one of the record groove when the pull string is activated. If you had been able to hear the voice you would have heard the voice of Jay Hamilton, who was employed as a writer/producer in the Talking Toy Division of Mattel in the late 1960s. Here's a link to the Mattel Toys voiced by Jay (including Matt Mason): ua-cam.com/video/GNfAIXiwS98/v-deo.htmlsi=zCIXhs8SMviCg7-q
Cool!
C’mon, Carl Douglas’😂 Thanks for the memories Johnny!
👊🫱😄
What a shame somebody threw a ball in a bag like that and busted them up. I keep all my boxes in case I want to store them
yes
Billy Swan flies to number one on the Hot 100 with his first chart entry. The last time that happened was earlier in 1974 when George McCrae pulled it off with “Rock Your Baby”. Due to being on the same record label as Kris Kristofferson, Swan got exposure as they toured together. Still this song with a rockabilly style with an organ as the main instrument came out of nowhere to reach the top of the pop chart and is heading in that direction on the country chart. Although it was not recorded live, the applause at the end of the record was by the studio musicians who were glad they made it through the session as a puppy named Bowser tugged at the leg of Swan as he sang. Carl Douglas takes his first chart listing into the Top Ten as “Kung Fu Fighting” leaps to #7, up a whopping twenty positions. Three Degrees, three ladies from Philadelphia, have their first top ten song as a solo act. They previously reached number twenty-nine with “Maybe” in 1970, but did make it to number one as backup singers on MFSB’s “TSOP” earlier in the year. Harry Chapin also is a newcomer to the Top Ten as “Cat’s In The Cradle” pounces to number ten. Jim Weatherly, primarily known as the songwriter to some of Gladys Knight & The Pips’ biggest hits, including their only number one “Midnight Train To Georgia”, is one notch away from having his own Top Ten hit as his “The Need To Be” is now at #11. John Lennon becomes the latest statistic to fall from number one right out of the Top Ten. Six of the last seven songs have done that. And prior to that, it hadn’t happened since Simon & Garfunkel took a dive from #1 to #12 in 1966 with “The Sounds Of Silence”. Helen Reddy continues her Top 15 winning streak as “Angie Baby” is now at #14. Every Top 40 record by Ms. Reddy, all eight of them, have made it to at least that position on the chart. Paul McCartney has his 13th Top 40 record since leaving the Beatles as “Junior’s Farm” is now at #28. Andy Kim makes it two in a row in the Top 40 with “Fire Baby, I’m On Fire” at #35. Same goes for Blue Magic with “Three Ring Circus” at #36. Shirley Brown has her first hit in the Top 40 this week with “Woman To Woman” at #37. J. Geils Band from Boston have their third Top 40 hit and second highest charter of their career with “Must Of Got Lost” now at #38. (Benjamin) Latimore, like Shirley Brown, reaches the Top 40 with his first listing as “Let’s Straighten It Out” moves from #47 to #39. Eric Clapton takes another song first recorded by someone else (Johnny Otis) and has his fourth solo Top 40 record with “Willie And The Hand Jive” at #40. Stylistics have had ten Top 40 hits in a row but they are really struggling with their latest release as “Heavy Fallin’ Out” inches up to #41. Last week Paper Lace topped out as #41 with “The Black-Eyed Boys”. Could it happen two weeks in a row? Gordon Lightfoot takes a plunge as his “Carefree Highway” goes from the Top Ten to completely out of the Top 40. With George Harrison debuting at #69 with his “Dark Horse”, now all four ex-Beatles are on the Hot 100 at the same time. Could they all be in the Top 40 at the same time as well? That remains to be seen. Remakes abound and The Carpenters are the latest to join the craze as their “Please Mr. Postman” comes on at #77. The Marvelettes took that song all the way to number one in 1961. In fact, it was the first number one record for Motown. In an unusual twist, Dionne Warwicke & Spinners return to the Hot 100 with their former number one song “Then Came You”, but without a star, indicating it probably won’t go any higher. Kenny Nolan may not be known yet as a singer, that will come later, but this week he scores two songs on the chart as a songwriter, by two different acts with two completely different styles. At #90 is the outrageous Disco Tex & The Sex-O-Lettes fronted by the flamboyant Sir Monte Rock III with the equally outrageous “Get Dancin’”. And at #94 is the soft ballad “My Eyes Adored You” by the more reserved Frankie Valli. It’s Valli’s first solo chart record since 1967. And Nolan isn’t done yet as a songwriter. “Ruby Baby” by Billy “Crash” Craddock is the eleventh remake on the Hot 100 this week. Dion took the song to #2 in 1963. And just when you think there couldn’t be any more remakes to chart, just wait until the biggest debuting song next week…and speaking of next week…a former number one record does a big reversal. And an “answer song” to a Top 40 hit makes the chart. The number one album this week was “It’s Only Rock ‘N Roll” by Rolling Stones. Happy Thanksgiving! For some fun, listen to “Alice’s Restaurant Massacree” by Arlo Guthrie on Thanksgiving Day…all eighteen minutes and twenty seconds of it! 🦃
Just announced…Alice Brock, who inspired the song by Arlo Guthrie, died on 11/21/2024 at the age of 83. All the more reason to listen to the tune on Thanksgiving Day!
Thank you.
