Привет,ты всё так же владеешь этим мотоциклом?
yep, still got it.
Very helpfull video, many thanks.👍 Based on your instruction we will change the starter from a K1300S. Nice greetings from germany.
You're welcome and good luck 🤞
@@tomaal Many thanks. Yesterday we have removed the starter (very easy with your video) but it was o.k. Looks like that battery is defect .. But refer to a battery tester it is o.k. Now we are a little bit confused, because the old battery is one year old. Nevertheless we will try with a new battery, hope this will solve the problem ..
@@visa5229 ok! Hope it works out for ye
The best bike ever from BMW, i ve done 135.000miles without any problem, love it.I will let the bike to do 150.000miles and after that i will full rebuild and keep it until my end of my life.
Great to hear!
Mine still won't crank
Excellent video. Is the K1300 the same ?
Cheers! Not sure tbh. Never had one.
I’m told it is on the FB group chat
Commentary would be nice
Sure would! thanks for watching
Very clear to see what you are doing without commentary. Music on other hand, jury is out.

Thank you!
Great video . Just wondering if you might have some input on what could be wrong with my BMW K 1200S ,2008. After riding this morning for about an hour, I came to a stop, bike stalled. Bike started right up but ran rough. Then, slowing down, bike stalled again. This happened twice. Very strong smell. This is my first BMW, so I don’t have any clue where to start. Thanks.
Thanks!, well, i've hear that people replace airbox and get a software update to sort stalling issue, best if you give it a search on a k-bikes forum for some details
amazing good looking bike
Thanks!
Do you know anything about the Brake failure light and why it flashes when the brakes seem fine? Thanks
It’s the abs module. I need to get mine rebuild as well
@@raymond80hr now I herd it can be just the brake pads are worn and there’s a sensor that’s saying you need to replace them even though you still have time so you don’t damage your rotors, and I herd it could be a weak battery or what you’re saying. Whats strange is I haven’t rode mine in weeks and all I did was start it and the light starts blinking all of a sudden. I’m gonna replace my battery tomorrow because I already had a new one and I’ve been meaning to change it. I’ll let you know what happens. I hope it’s not the ABS module, I herd that’s expensive! Damn I’m selling my bike too, I want to get a S1000XR.🤦🏼♀️
good job
cheers!
Great info, I have 2 of these k1200s.
Nice 👍
Hi, I just purchased a K1200R. It did not come with the center stand. How can I take the rear wheel out? Thanks
Hey man, all the best with the bike! Well, best option is to get the motorcycle table lift. If you're on the budget I'd recommend paddock stand for a front wheel, it's inexpensive and effective. Pop the front wheel up and then put your wooden block under the bike so it supports the frame on both sides where the center stand would be. Then lift it in the dead center of the block with the jack.
Nice. How often do you need to change the drive oil? Is there 2nd gear shifting with your bike? TX
I change it anually along witht the engine oil, 1 job 1 mess to clean up ;)
4:18....only 180 ml .....!!!!!
Hi Eberhard, that's incorrect. It's 220ml (per BMW service manual) and 220ml is the level where "it purs out" of the drain so there's no way of overfilling. But you can underfill.... top up your diff pal !!!!!
@@tomaal Thats Not correct…. Update in Service Manual…
Hey bud! Do you have specs or specific brand name for that final drive oil?

Hello! How you doing? I am wanting to buy one, do you mind if i ask you what were the major problems you had on this one? Thanks in advance, Marco, Portugal
Hey Marco, I have it for years and no major problems. Just remember to check if the new tensioner was fitted with the previous owner or garage. Its a known fault with OEM tensioner on those. After that, I had a cracked plastic knee in the fuel line, failed starter relay, failed starter, the radiator will need replacing soon. That's about it.
Hey! Thanks for answering! You mean timing chain tensioner? Is or can the replace be better than the oem? Im glad you havent had any major problems. Im probably mostly looking about transmission and etc. I really like the idea of a none chain final drive, byt have been wondering wether is or is not reliable. Thanks Marco
yep, timing chain tensioner, with OEM chain is slamming around in the engine cover and causes rattle. Could cause to skip a tooth on the sprocket and then... cry cry cry :P There's a good chance most of the Ks have the upgraded tensioner by now. As for driveshaft its more reliable than a chain, its safer for you and the bike, looks better, its less maintenance, its smoother ride and acceleration. Only draw back is the slight power loss, its heavier and less efficient so you loose couple of ponies between the engine and the road. It has a plenty of power so I think positive outweigh the negatives.
Totally agree with you! Looks way better. Thanks for the heads up regarding the tensioner, will most certainly have a look on that when buying it. I believe listening to the engine carefully would be enough to acknowledge that issue what do you think? Regarding the driveshaft, im really pleased to hear you haveny got any problems, thats really great news for me. Do you do the maintenance by your own? If not, and comparing to another bikes, do you find this one more expensive regarding parts and labor? Thank you for replying
@@marcoaurelio6941 It was so long ago I can't recall the rattle noise so I can't tell now. yeah, I do it on my own, check my channel I have a video on the driveshaft, one tube of grease and a bit of oil it's all you need to maintain it once a year. Other bits are the same as in other bikes like oil, filters, pads etc so the same maintenance costs minus the cost of chain, sprockets and chain lube
Hi, I just started to do mine, no easy feat without a center stand, but I do not see the drain plug where yours is. Mine is a 2008 version.
Newer Ks will have the drain plug on the bottom of the gearbox and a fill plug on the top right side (looking at the bike from the back). Even easier job there, no need to disconnect from the swinging arm ;)
@@tomaal I must be blind !! Damned if I can see the fill plug ! Will keep looking :) Thanks for the quick reply
How do you recommend we lift the bike if the bike did not come with a center stand? I have a regular floor jack and wood blocks.
@@iobenborbiliac5960 Hi Ioben, floor jack on its own will lift the bike but it won't be stable to work safely on it. You need three points of support to have a stable safe base. In your case, I'd recommend paddock stand for a front wheel, it's inexpensive and effective. Pop the front wheel up and then put your wooden block so it supports the frame on both sides where the center stand would be. Then lift it in the dead center of the block with the jack.
@@shaughanask571 Don't get a guide dog just yet. I have a 2015 K1300S. It is supposedly sealed for life but I believe the access is under the caliper and behind the wheel for drain and fill plugs.
I just got mine here in Thailand, just 27K on her. Looking forward to getting it to 100K :)
Have fun and safe riding!
Thanks for the vid.
Thanks for watching!
What were your symptoms and what was the problem solving in the relay or the starter mine is cranking but the ground is not working I really need to get a closeup on the starter and the alternator heavier guage wires and the one that is ground just below the two starter bolts any more than the video has a better look at the alternator pole and the ring terminals that could have a good bit more than I have to be able to get the right wires to the correct place
Symptoms like in a video, I had a bad relay and a bad starter.
Can you Tell me Whats the Tank for, you checked at 8:20? What does it Contain?
Hi Joel, that's the radiator expansion tank with coolant.
Just bought. One...remember ..you can only ride to your abilities...what does it mean you don't ride faster than 80.... then this bike is too much of a bike...would you drive a Ferrari at 45 ......this bike has 160 ponies.... Go for a smaller cc and less handling then. MOve up later...a 900 or a 1000 is also a lot of bike but ..probably less ponies..less work.. My two bits...
??? It's my first bike since I got my license... Already drove it to Limits...280km/h and till spark came out in curves....i agree it's not a beginner bike but it is safe and forgives some mistakes. Can recommend it
No
would you recommend this motorbike for an intermediate mature rider? I just afraid it would be to much power.
That depends on what you've been riding so far, if something around 800cc and you're comfortable with it then yeah, go for it. But if you had 250cc that could be a shock when you open a throttle on that thing ;)
Excellent video! Thanks!
You are welcome!
Hello, If possible a question Do you have the OEM tensioner with the oil tank? Does this tensioner eliminate the known current noise at start-up? Thanks
HI FerroH1338, I had new tensioner fitted. No rattle now. But that wasn't the main reason why I changed it, I simply didn't want cam chain slamming around in the engine cover, which would lead to jumping a sprocket tooth and sending my pistons crashing into the now out of sync valves. ;)
Hi TomaaL, If there is no rattle now I'm glad to know. On my K1200S I still have the first tensinoer, the one with the metal plate. So I am thinking of buying the "new" tensor and replace. But I was undecided about putting the new BMW tensioner or before, a manual tuning tensioner for example the ape? And yes, I do not like anything either, that might happen, jump the chain. Thank you very much.
Whichever one will do, it's up to you.
Yes of course, I just asked for an opinion and thank you. Like many others, they ask me the same about other motorcycles. Thank you very much Best regards
How do you like this bike? I'm looking at a 2008 - 11,000 miles. What would this maintenance cost at mechanic? I'm not as talented as you. Great song by the way.
Hey jessfboysen, I love it, suits me to the ground, I'm tall (6'3) and riding position is great. I'd say $500 a service visit including oils, filters, plugs, brakes.
