Metal up your ass!
Jason Newsted vs Robert Trujillo
Here is the video which compares Jason Newsted's and Rob Trujillo's bass skills durnig Orion played live.
I've put only the slow part of Orion cause there's no full Orion with Jason. And also it's easy to find bass sound on that part.
I hope you'll enjoy it.

A tribute to Cliff Burton - the bass legend

A video I made for the Cliff Burton tribute. Music Metallica - (Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth. Check Clifford Lee Burton (February 10, 1962 September 27, 1986) was a bass guitarist best known for his work with the thrash/heavy metal band Metallica from 1982 until 1986. As a bassist he was known for his unique style, which made heavy use of distortion and effects (several of which are usually associ...

Here is a link to the new version: pl.ua-cam.com/video/5P1w44_Iwww/v-deo.html Just Metallica! Check. The whole story from 1981 to January 2008. There're some mistakes like "trash" "basist". Sorry for that and I hope you'll like this video anyway. If u want it fast go watch Megadeth play
Newsted só se comprara à Cliff Burton!
The boys had been around forever by this point.....and they were still only 37
1:01 for those looking for that OOUUU moment joel talked about
CLIFF...METALLICA AS A CHILD JASON...METALLICA AS A TEEN ROB..METALLICA AS AN ADULT...ALL OF THEM EQUAL TALENT...
JASON NEWSTED.... !,,!,
Jason ♥️♥️♥️♥️
I think Lloyd Grant should get some credit (which I do see in your follow up video). There is a good interview that Lloyd gave in 2012 where he explains his involvement which I will leave below. He was essential to the Metal Massacre album...which was huge at the time. Lloyd met Lars through the LA Recycler (in the same way that Lars met James). Then James came into the mix after responding to a different ad in the LA Recycler. Ron McGovney was already living with James at the time. After James and Lars met, all sought studio time to record "Hit the Lights" and "Jump in the Fire". Then once this was completed, Dave Mustaine came in and recorded "Phantom Lord" etc, then he too was replaced by Kirk (whom at the time was with the band Exodus). Then finally they met Cliff only after seeing him play live as a member of Agents of Misfortune (without a pick...which was odd at the time for metal). There was a lot of history of Metallica, before there was even a name. Check out this interview with Lloyd Grant which does explain a bit of the sequence. I saw the follow-up video you did, but maybe a bit more context may give some depth. Hope this helps! :) ua-cam.com/video/ckm7HRKVbHk/v-deo.html
It's sad neither one of them can really play and it's not that hard of a bass line.
I enjoyed the chemistry they had with Jason more than Rob. Cliff was obviously the undisputed best (R.I.P. Cliff)but I wish Jason never left.. Robert looks stupid as fuck when he crouches and crawls around the stage like a Neanderthal trying to shit
It's no knock on Jason but in my opinion Rob has a better flow but cliff was better than both
I like Robert, but I like Jason better
How the hell you can compare the bass skills basing on two different ways of playing? Jason played with pick and Rob with fingers. Rob's version is more fluid and funky, while Jason's has more attack and sounds more straightforwarding. It depends on what you prefer. You can hear the real Jason in his days in Voivod and he is a kickass badmuthfckr there.
I'll take Jason every day of the week . R.I.P. Cliff though
Robert has a more skill compared to jason.... But the tune of jason bassistt has a is better sound for mettalica ....
I guess Rob is a virtuoso, while Newsted is just an average bass player, nothing prominent. But who cares.
It's a case of technical skill(rob) being inferior to tone and attitude(jason). Sorry, I grew up listening to ST and IG but the attitude and tone just isn't there. Not to mention the backup vocals.
The Tallica' were infinitely better with Jason..
Jason! I like he plays the song on his own. I can't say Rob played it weakly, but Rob played like a robot. And I don't like his crabwalk.
I prefer Jason but I have much respect for Robert and can NOT hate him at ALL he’s amazing but on another level
Jason newsted by miles
that sucks that they always skip the break, before the solo, that's such an awesome slow part,, I understand for Woodstock they probably had limited time as always, but they still skip it either way
Kirk was in his prime that night!
if i had a dollar for every pixel in this video i would have 25 cents
0:49 for 2 seconds did I hear halo on fire or am I trippin?
Tim Mundy me too
tHe MeNu you’re not tripping man haha
Rob without a doubt better.
I vote jason i like his playing better but robert is amazing to but jason is just a better bassist in my opinon
jason
Jason is a great bass player but Rob is out of this world. Metallica sounds (and looks) better with him.
Looks like Korn playing Metallica songs. No thanks.
"You want it fast, or slow!?" *starts playing Until It Sleeps "then what the fuck they playin" "DID YOU SAY FAST!?" *goes into Thrash. This should have happened when they started recording Load, instead of releasing 2 albums that basically ruined Metallica. I go for St. Anger anyday over Shit 1 and Shit 2, at least Metallica played METALlica
donaldrocks101103 until it sleeps its one of the top10 metallica songs
Stfu
Cliff was such a beast,... I'm actually suprised now that Newsted was actually recruited when I compare his skill to Cliff. Rob is definitely the man for the job.
Cliff had good points but let's not act like he was perfect. Cliff's rhythm was all over the place but he made up for that in stage presence and sound. Jason is ALWAYS right there in the pocket and that is what matters most for a rhythm section. Cliff wasn't the virtuoso non-guitarists/non-bassists make him out to be. Another case of people playing the dead out to be saints.
so Fast!
Rob!!
Damn, Robert is amazing!!!
jason the best
Jason
Robert le da su paliza
when play live..Jason is solid clear and consistence .. and he Badass showman
I can close my eyes and imagine Cliff when Rob played. Damn I miss Cliff...
Jason better show man
Robs version was better...too bad Lars's drumming ruined the song on that live performance!
Love u Metallica,James H;)*
tenia mejor sonido y efectos jason...
pero Robert es mejor
Rob is better, guys
Every bassplayer (or musican as well) has his own style, his trademark. Jason plays Orion in his style (and he plays with a plec). Whats's wrong with that? Nothing. Sounds great. Robs version is a 1:0,9 copy of Cliff. 0,9 because Cliffs plays with another feeling, another style, doing a lot of hammer'on's and pull'offs. Actually Rob fits 'tallica as well cause their selling their soul. Clean sound and making money. Business as usual. I don't wanna see 'tallica with Jason 'cause the spirit of trash metal isn't in the mind, in the soul of James & Lars anymore.
+Daniel Hx Well it should be, after Jason left things went downhill real fast.
Cliff Burton forever
