Welcome to Willamette Valley AF Trains
Featuring videos of American Flyer prewar and post war trains running on new and older home layouts that I have had as well as trains running on other friends layouts. Some videos are converted from digital tape recordings made in the 1990's. My friends and I have mostly classic A C Gilbert American Flyer trains. There are also some Lionel Fundimensions Production trains and new production Lionel American Flyer trains.
I hope followers of this channel will enjoy viewing these wonderful trains running. Maybe you will see some items that you have not seen before. Maybe you will be inspired to make a home layout yourself. I was inspired to build a new 16 ft dog bone layout this year after watching other channels. It is great to see younger and older enthusiasts sharing their ideas and the hobby.

I'm a big fan of Billy Lane's UA-cam channel and of the Sons of Speed Racing. I have built 2 Harley's from the ground up which are pictured in this video. I bought my first engine in 1973 when a friend of mine purchased a running 1952 45ci solo. When he brought it home he told me the guy had an extra engine in a box to sell. I purchased that engine and was off on the hunt for more parts. When I...

American Flyer Air Chime Horn repair 07-29-2024

This video shows how I repaired the Air Chime speaker wiring in the 475 Rocket dummy unit I recently purchased. I reached out to my friend that has the "MyGrandpa'sTrains" channel on UA-cam for his advice on testing / troubleshooting the three terminal speaker. After completing the checks he advised, I found the speaker was in good working order. I stopped by an electronics shop in Salem Oregon...

@@olhemi1 Thank you
I think I'll keep an eye out for a 333, nice looking engine. Does it smoke?
@@MygrandpasTrain This one is an early version without smoke. Later versions smoke and the most desirable one has smoke tubes going out by the steam chest.
Two handsome trains.
@@-MAILMAN Thank you
Nice combination of prewar and postwar. What model # is the steamer?
@@ronalddevine9587 Thank you. I'm running a Marx 333 Pacific with my custom SP&S Vanderbilt tender on the O gauge.
@willamettevalleyAFtrains Very nice looking. I thought it was Chicago Flyer. Thanks
Very awesome! I like that Milwaukee road emd locomotive you have!
@@MattKonsol Thank you very much.
Looks good!!
@@johnfroio4910 Thanks
Really like that Milwaukee loco.
@@stevenfd123 Thank you. That was a fun project. A 1990's frame and shell that I painted. Motor, trucks and weight from a 370. Side frames from an ALCO PA
Hah! It took me longer than it should have to get the Halloween theme! Nice vid!

Love the Erector bridge. Also nice to see original track and roadbed.

As soon as I saw the colors I thought "Halloween train". Nice job putting that together. Thank you for sharing.
@@flyerjunction Thank you. I purchased a PFE reefer car last week. Orange with black roof and ends, UP & SP heralds. It was delivered this afternoon so it didn't make it into the video. Thanks for watching and your comments.
nice layouts. thanks for sharing.

Awesome

Nice Layout.Rough and tough looking
@@OgaugeTrainsplusslotCars Thank you The majority of my trains are 1940 to 1957. I tried to capture the early to mid 50's catalog art in the layouts.
What's the story on the Vanderbilt tender? It looks impressive.
@@johnsimms6184 I have built 3 Vanderbilt tenders now for S gauge. This one is on an early Gilbert plastic tank car chassis that I modified. I narrowed the frame, used an Atlantic tender for parts to make the front bunker, and a two dome Lionel O gauge tank. I made the tool boxes from caboose parts and used sections of the caboose catwalks. There is a vender making 3d printed Northern tender chassis now. I used one of those for my latest project. Thanks for watching and your question.
@@willamettevalleyAFtrains Thanks for the information, AM had advertised a pacific with a Vanderbilt, but that fell through. When I get my layout finished, I may try and create one.
Beautiful, running session! The American flyer trains are gorgeous!

Nice video. All of the trains were very enjoyable to watch. The Atlantic is literally "Fantastic"! Everyone is chiming in about it and for good reason. You did a wonderful job on it. Thank you for sharing.
@@flyerjunction Thank you for your comments and for watching. I'm working away at adding more west coast lines rolling stock.

@@olhemi1 Thank you for watching.
These are very attractive trains on a very nice layout. Thank you for the video.
@@randyrobey5643 Thank you very much. I'm glad you enjoyed watching.
The Atlantic looks sharp. I think the silver makes it just a bit more prototypical, depending on the road I suppose. I think I'll be doing that to one of mine, plus a red cab roof will be a nice improvement. I've been in a painting mood, lots of custom jobs while the weather is nice.
@@MygrandpasTrain The Atlantic is a 282 Pacific cab and ash pan married to a 307 boiler. I wanted a USRA type Atlantic for this S.P. project.
Very awesome! I really like the paint job on the Atlantic and on the tender as well.
@@MattKonsol Thank you for the comments and for watching
Nice paint job on the Atlantic.
@@ronalddevine9587 Thank you for the kind comment and for watching.
Very good looking trains. Lengths are appropriate for your layouts and are not so long as to appear to be chasing their tails. Well done. 👍👍👍👍👍
@@-MAILMAN Thank you for watching and your comments. The 326 is the large motor version. It was rolling around with all those die cast cars at 40% transformer setting.
Very nice to see flyer in action. I like the paint on the Atlantic and vandy behind it.

@@americanflyerexpress Thank you. Someday I'll have a display shelf for it in the train room.
That set is in beautiful condition and runs very smoothly. Thank you for sharing..
@@flyerjunction Thank you. The four set coaches were all in their original boxes. The PA's were in the original wraps. Pretty well preserved. The extra 960G my brother sent was a good match.
What a beautiful locomotive! It runs very nicely hauling those green passenger cars. You brought out a lot of the nice details on it. The Vanderbilt tender really looks good. Who made the track gang shown in the video? Thank you for sharing.
@@flyerjunction The track gang pieces are Erie. They would be correct American Flyer accessories but I did not get them with a box so can't say for sure.
My Dad (86 y/o) still has an American Flyer set he got when he was 7 or 8.
The custom paint reminds me of the display engines featured in Model RR magazine or the telephone engines... but a real operating one is much nicer I think
@@MygrandpasTrain Thank you. I downloaded photos of three existing static display GN locomotives and went from there.
