Very informative, beautiful playing too. The difference in tone and clarity is incredible! Love it, thanks 🙏🏻
My grandparents piano hasn’t been tuned in 30 years. My friend’s a pianist and both of us were genuinely confused how it’s still perfectly in tune
Were you able to scrap the large metal piece (not sure if that is the sound board or something else)
Very interesting comparison. I think the new hammers would need voicing though as they are too bright. What brand are the new hammers actually? They look like a Chinese/Japanese made hammers. Also judging from the fact that the holes were too big. Could you elaborate on how you "shimmed" them to fit the smaller shanks?
This is why we wear PPE
Why are you RAISING THE PITCH SO FAST!!!
Are they replicable
Yes the string are replaceable just a little more expensive compared to guitar strings.
"Ding!" "Ding!" "Ding!" "Ding!" "KABOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooom"
Don't sit in the Direktion of the string!
Violin string breaking: My sneeze Guitar string breaking: My dad sneezing Piano string breaking: My mom sneezing
How did you get rid of harp? It's extraordinarily heavy.
Last note of “A Day In The Life.”
Yeah,if rusty and blocked by the leadpin(or even the tuning wrestpin) than the good fellow will SNAP!!!!!! First of all NOT pulling higher, but LOWERING! In that case the string will work loose itself!
I worked in a piano warehouse for three years. When a soundboard was cracked, we'd take the ivory off each key and throw the entire piano into a garbage crusher. As the piano bent and broke, it would let out a screaming sound. Good times.
Everything fkt up😂😂
Man that F string really said "f*** you"
guess that string needed some extra care
TBH I subscribed originally to listen to your special tune (today at 02:49)
4:00 :( skipped a major part
Cranking the tuning lever in large amounts is a recipe for disaster, The guy when he was turning and the string suddenly broke. he was using the wrong technique, cranking the tuning lever instead of using gentle, small jerks. It is important to use the correct method when tuning, as cranking can put too much tension on the strings and cause them to break. The right way is to use small, controlled jerks to tune, and then set the pin by hitting the corresponding piano key fairly hard, which helps to secure it in place and achieve a stable pitch.
Time to get up and go make a coffee.
Shocked by lighting 😂
What grade of cast iron are these normal made from?
I found the answer, Steinway & Sons uses Class 30 gray iron.
Keep up the good work my friend❤❤
Thank you, I will
How did you remove thos fold things above keys !!!!
Man my heart stoped for... but thanks to your lough I recovered😮
bro was left traumatized
ooh! nice wood!
Simply a great bass,
Jumpscare.
Thanks for such an excellent and informative video & a brilliant restoration! Hope you don't mind me asking about a badly neglected 1903 Richard Lipp upright, sadly deteriorated in an uutside room for 17 years (in the UK). No idea whether it is worth restoring - in terms of the cost to do so, related to its value before & after (clearly would need assessment, but wondering what sort of range of cost). Such a shame, as such a beautiful & special piano. Could you recommend another expert who could assess it? Thank you once again for your great video - and your exquisite playing!
Hi Caroline, Thanks for the message. In terms of restoration cost it is almost always more affordable to replace instead of restore… usually most of the restorations I do are pianos that are family heirlooms. I’d recommend contacting Roberts Pianos in the UK. They should be able to recommend someone in your area. They have a great UA-cam page. Thanks for watching! Don’t forget to subscribe!
Jesus and i thought tuning a guitar was scary

Good grief! It sounded like the door slamming on Hell !
Hey Doc, I got a 1920 Baldwin that looks exactly the same and maybe in as equally rough shape.
Very 🎉
As you can see and hear, there are those who like mellow dark tone, and those who like bright tones. I like both. At this point if you like bright sound, you should glue a layer of leather to the crown, with the added benefit of never need to replace hammers again.
you were twisting it too much and too fast. pianos only need a little bit of twisting to get to the right note
sounds like something you'd hear in a horror game
he couldnt help but laugh 😂
This is very helpful. I have a 140 year old upright that deserves a second life in a new way. I'm thinking my wood chipper helmet and face mask plus chainsaw gloves will be essential for cutting the strings as a mere mortal not an expert. If the piano expert doesn't show up to help, that is.
Volume too low
The new hammers sound remarkably better. It sounds like a higher caliber instrument, significantly less brash. Did you consider replacing them with new Yamaha hammers and how do those compare to Abel?
Would you replace a 1990 U3 hammers with new ones? I find my piano to be very bright.
I’d recommend replacing them with Abel Naturals. I did a video of a Yamaha C108 with this hammer. I thought it was a big improvement! Don’t forget to subscribe

bro this is nice
What kind of extension did you use on your drill? I tried to create one myself but there wasn't enough torque. I can't separate the harp from the back and it's quite frustrating.
Poor dude hes gonna be traumatized
that's what happens when u use your guitar pick instead of your piano pick
Top 5 scariest jumpscares Number 1:
You're horrible person, this piano could of easily been tuned, but you chose to destroy it! This is really unprofessional and stupid. None of the pianos deserve to get recycled/destroyed whatsoever! Just find a different job at this point. Monster
