Dive Chronicles of Rocky
United States
Приєднався 6 кві 2012
A voyage of discovery and adventure awaits, if you dare to seize the opportunity.
Show me, if you dare, who you are.... there's so much more to life than just the small portal we post online. I have and will continue to post videos about some of my adventures outside of diving. Most of them will be videos taken while on dive trips, but let's not split hairs here... feel free to post your thoughts and comments about them, haters will receive the full force of Thor's hammer.
Enjoy your visit to my small part of the internet, and remember, life's out there, not in here.

Not the video I envisioned, but it's what I got done. We pick the trip up at the temple during the floating market trip where we get some really good food. Then on to the Bridge over the River Kwai and the bridge museum. Then off for a little solo adventure in Bangkok and off to Phuket. Ahhh Phuket. Enjoy
Baby Drum on Banana Patch

So the water's been kind of iffy lately, but we got out there anyway. Kept an eye out for the Hammers, but we did get to visit with this baby drum. Enjoy!
Spotted Eel on Sand Island
Переглядів 165 місяців тому
Big storm last week left the water murky and a lot of surge made it challenging, but here's a peek at a beautiful spotted eel. Just checking us out as we admire it's pretty nose... It may look like I'm close to the animal, but remember that I shoot video in a much higher resolution so I can zoom in during post production. Enjoy!!!
A visit to Molasses Reef

So these are some of the things that we saw on Molasses Reef the other day, great dive!!!
Blue Shrimp come out to play.
Переглядів 236 місяців тому
So I found some blue cleaner shrimp, I stuck my finger down there like I usually do when I find cleaner shrimp, and one of them felt adventurous. Pretty cool day all in all. Sand Island
Met a shark on a dive

This was a phenomenal experience! A few minutes into it and I realized, this encounter isn't like the other encounters I've had. She stuck around and checked me out while I stuck around and checked her out. She was about 6 feet, Lovely animal. This dive was on Molasses Reef a few weeks ago. More coming soon.

Very short video showing a Spotted Drum on Pickles Reef. I tried to get more footage, but the little fish was to skittish.

Racing the storm
Переглядів 1777 місяців тому
So, we were out on a dive, June 12, and the weather turned interesting on us. Our Captain Brad, being the salty captain he is, knew to race to the south of the storm front and sneak around behind it. And that's exactly what we did. We were having a great time, being salty sailors that we are. The divers weren't sure how to feel about our situation, a couple taking it for the end of times. Us? 2023 Grecian Rocks Coral Bleaching

So I got some shots of bleached coral. It's bad, but not as bad as it could have been. Here is a link to the Mote Marine BleachWatch page. You can learn more about coral bleaching and how you can help the efforts to help our reefs rebound. mote.org/research/program/coral-reef-science-monitoring/bleachwatch A huge shout out and thank you to Divemaster Ashley at Sea Dwellers Dive Center in Key La...

Do you really need a description? They're Eagle Rays, on Grecian Rocks.... enjoy... A huge shout out and thank you to Divemaster Ashley at Sea Dwellers Dive Center in Key Largo Florida, for letting me borrow her GoPro so I could get these shots!!! Thanks Ashley!!! Tigers on Mo
Переглядів 1708 місяців тому
I'm not sure who shot this video so I don't know who to give credit to for it. I actually just found it on my onedrive storage so I don't even know for sure when I got it. But, these are some of the sharks we saw on Mo back in Jan of 2023. There were 3 big Tigers, and a dozen or so of other varieties, every one except a Hammerhead. I'm pretty sure the Hammer was out there. At one point in time,...
2023 08 19 Snapper Ledge and Pillars
Переглядів 738 місяців тому
A dive on Snapper Ledge and Pillars yielded this "short" video. I was going to upload each clip separately, but then I decided to put them together. You can see some of the coral bleaching caused by the extreme high temps we're having. Water temp the day of this dive was 87 degF, it has been in the lower 90's.

2023 08 02 Hairy Starfish - Pickles Reef
nicely done.
Love it! The song that is. Never been to Bangkok or Thailand.
It's one of those places that I highly recommend everyone visit, at least once. You'll fall in love with the people, and the food.... Mango sticky rice is devine!!! I haven't been able to find good mango sticky rice since I got back.
Are you out there now?
@@captrussell no, trips on hold until I heal up some. Got to get through the legal process from this accident first.
@@divechroniclesofrocky …Oh! What accident?
@captrussell I was rear ended by a drunk driver the day after I got back in Brevard county. Totaled my truck, messed me pretty bad too. Neck, back and head injuries. I'm staying with a friend right now. Starting physical therapy next week.
I did this dive back in July and the vis was terrible and the current was quite strong! I’ll have to go back and hope for the same conditions you have here, it looks great! What do you film with?
I used a gopro 9 for this trip. I hope you get to see her on a good day. What dive shop did you use? We used Red Sea Diving College, did a great job for us.
@@divechroniclesofrocky Thanks! I have a go pro 7, and my footage it much murkier and duller than yours.. time to upgrade I think! I will definitely have to have a second attempt. I was on a liveaboard, booked through Scuba Travel. The boat was the Ghazala Explorer, all the guides were great!
A part of it is post-production, too. I use VideoPro X14, which has some great image correction.
Thanks, miss you guys too. I'll be down to see ya before I leave the area.
Miss you my friend!! Happy New Year!
Can’t believe the vis was this good that day!
Very nice! Love your taste in music. Were those Hawksbill turtles? And was that a Puffer fish in the beginning?
Was this at Pickles?
I believe this was at Dry Rocks, maybe Grecian.
Cool! Reef shark of some sort? She didn’t appear to be swimming lazily. Was she hunting?
I believe she was. The way she moved, I was a little concerned that she might be hunting me... lol. A buddy of mine, who knows these things, said she was definitely checking me out, but she didn't display any aggressive behavior, so it was probably, more curiosity than hunger.
Was the race before or after the dive and where was the dive?
After, and French Reef. See the video on squid sightings, same day and dive. As soon as we surfaced, skipper loaded the boat and off we went.
What a sad sight to see 😞
Yea, but I'm hoping that a lot, or most, of it survives if the water cooled down soon enough.
Thanks for pointing these out to me Rocky!
Cool! How many different Tiger sharks were there? Do they typically “school” up? Whats the water temperature been this summer?
1. tigers, nurse, black tip, reef, bull. That's all I saw. 2. they only school when there's something tasty in the water, and they're all tasting it. 3. Hot. Water temp finally fell below 90 this last week, still seeing 88-89 with occasional 87 degrees.
Three tigers that I know of, probably one more in the distance.
Amazing btw!
Thanks
What did you shoot this with?
GoPro Hero 9. Edited on Magix Movie Edit Pro.
Nice! Where was the swim through?
Lol, to tell you the truth I'm not sure.... I'm pretty sure it's J.J.s cave on molasses reef. But that was the day I dove Mo in the am and French in the pm and it sort of runs together after awhile...
@@divechroniclesofrocky been there, done that!
That was crazy, wasn’t it??
OMG I wish I had my camera on the first part. I was just swimming taking in the moment.
Coke
Great stuff Rocky! Great footage and great music! Its been stuck in my head all day!!
Glad you enjoy it!
Great video! What was your dive setup??
I used my Zeagle Ranger bcd, ScubaPro Mk 17 regulator. Thanks for watching.
Beautiful Rocky, where is it located? Never mind. I came in at tail end then watched from beginning. I just left Islamorada!!! Oh well next year.
Give us a call next time amd we can set it up for you.
@@divechroniclesofrocky Will do thanks!
Very nice Rocky! Great music selection! Maybe I should upgrade from my Hero 7 Black.
If it's doing the job, why replace it. I needed to upgrade since my hero 9 went belly up on me. Otherwise I'd still be using it. If it works don't fix it.
Thanks for the complement. I will be uploading another video in the next few days or so... now I'm having trouble with my laptop, think I got some bad software or a virus.
@@divechroniclesofrocky Good advice. Thanks.
Rocky what video editing software do you use/recommend? I have a PC.
@@391wombat I've used Magix Movie Edit Pro for a lot of years. I've also used Premire (good program but I aint paying that much, there are others that dp just as good and are more affordable.) I've used DaVinchi Resolve as well but found it to cumbersome for the level of editing that I do. If you're a pro video editor, both of those do a really good job. Movie Edit Pro does a good job, is powerful enough to be creative but not loaded down with a steep learning curve. I always get the premium version so there's more power than I need but still keep it simple enough to do quick edits and coversions if I need to. My two cents worth.
I was there three years ago and saw none. Are they making a come back?
This is the second time in a year that I've seen Tigers on Mo, although I've heard others talk about sightings as well. I've also seen a couple of Great Hammerheads here also, the biggest being about 10 foot. That was a huge animal.
Nice. They looked a little too slender for Bull Sharks. What were they for the most part?
Most of them were Reef and Black Tip, a couple of Bulls, a couple of Nurse and three big tigers. They were feeding on a big, 4 foot turtle that had died or been killed.
@@divechroniclesofrocky I’m going to be in Islamorada in March. Can you recommend a dive shop? Been looking at Key Dives. Know anything about them? Others?
If you contact Scuba Fun in Key Largo, she can fix you up with pretty much any dive you want to make, any where in the keys. Let her know if there are any must dives and she'll set them up for you.
And Key Dives is a good shop. I used them to dive the Eagle.
@@divechroniclesofrocky okay thanks. Ill look into both shops.
Nice video Rocky! I’m curious, why didn’t you go down/get closer to the Goliaths? Were they below you’re MOD? Can they be aggressive?
Thanks for the comment and they can be territorial. I've been grunted at by a few of them. Not sure they're dangerous, but I really don't want a fish that big mad at me. Jonah might be able to go three days with out a belgium waffle but I ain't so sure I can. Besides, we see them, don't need to touch them. We were at 110 feet there and I wanted to extend our NDLs as long as possible.
Got it Rocky thanks.
Seaforth 24
Yes sir, a 1979 Seaforth. I had such hopes and dreams for that fine little ship. Saddley she got embroiled in a storage property issue and I had to walk away from her. As a Pirate re-enactor, I installed some show rigging to give her an old sailing vessel feel. Had lots of heavy manila rope to give her that war torn sea embattled character. I wanted to install a couple of air powered cannons for shooting stale bread during pirating operations. I never got to really sail her, but the little I did in the river, she was a fine vessel and sailed well.
i have one of those
I had one, great little boat.
Wonderful. Thank you guys for taking me on a such a fantastic trip. I truly enjoyed the music as well. Thank you again. , Take care and stay safe. God bless you. Penny D. 🙋♀️
Thank you too!
AWESOME VIDEO MY GUY!!! That looks like so much fun. I've got to get down there and try that trip. Love the music btw.
Thank you, it's worth the trip....
It is just an awesome wreck dive
One of my favorite wreck dives.,
Beautiful! What was that big long tentacle thing partly under a ledge? Was all that from just one dive?
It was a cucumber of some sort Amd no, it was three dives. All one day.
Pointless? I don’t think so. Got my foot tapping and put a smile on my face. Doing the same thing with a DPV over a beautiful reef would really be cool!
I had to watch to see how you turned a 5 minute drive into a 14 minute video. 😂
It's all about the journey
What was your depth? Great video
Thanks l. Depth was about 30 feet.
You hit the shark jackpot on that dive. Very nice indeed!
Nice video Rocky as usual! Its been a while since your last. What kind of shark was that? I didnt see any tell tale fin tip color.
Thanks, that's a reef shark. The next video (going up right now) has a boat load of sharks.
Headed to Ft Lauderdale in a couple weeks. Any recommendations for dive shop/charter dives?
@@391wombat not sure who has survi ed the lockdown but scubatyme has always done a great job for me. I haven't personnaly used Pirates Cove but I hear good things about them. Calypso is a great small boat and a great crew. g.co/kgs/KPXDSb
Perfect! I already signed up w scubatyme for a dive on the Okinawa and a reef dive. Just lucked out. Looking forward to it! Ill check out the others you mention too. Thanks!
Nice story Rocky. Incredible mushrooms along the way. Find any Morels?
Dobry film. Pozdrawiam.
Enjoyed it Rocky thanks.
omg soo cool
Thank you, it was an awesome dive.
Great work beautiful footage🤙
I appreciate the guide calling out the Corona hoax like he did. We need to do it more often all over the world.
How much does it cost to get out there ?
I use Horizon Divers, cost is about $85 usd. I also use Nitrox which bumps the cost about $24 for 2 tanks..
Nice footage. In February i did a similar dive with pura vida divers out of riviera beach. We dove the flower pot and the breakers reefs off palm beach. First drift dives for me. Lotta fun.
Breakers and Tables & Tennis are a couple of my favorites.
Nicely done Rocky. Your vids are among my favorites.
Thanks, I try to make them at least interesting.
You do that very well. Im an older diver who got out of it decades ago and am trying to get back into it. Spiegel grove and Duane are on my bucket list.
@@391wombat when you do, give me a shout and I'll show both of them. Love both of them.
@@divechroniclesofrocky Will do Rocky. John
What time of year did you dive it? Me and a few friends are going to dive it this April wondering what to wear? 130' to the sand?
I don't usually wear a wetsuit, but if I did I would usr a 3 mil at the most. Apr water is nice, usually mid 70's. Give Yvonne a call at Scuba Fun and she can hook you up. I usually use Horizon Divers for the Spiegle.
I was at that restaurant in October 💜💜💜
We had a lot of fun there, and the food was really good as well.
The Spiegel Grove is my favorite dive. It has been on my bucket list since I became a certified diver. I had the chance to dive it this past Thursday and it was the best dive ever. Now I can cross it off of my bucket list.
Oh don't cross it off... tag it as a must return to...
This is epic Rocky. Love the turtle.
I hope your making it through this hurricane season... looks to be a rough one coming at you.
@@divechroniclesofrocky Thank you. One down, one to go for just this week. Bermuda is very well built all brick and mortar. So we should be able to ride it out okay. Paulette did minor damage. Humberto last year did more but not much. Teddy should be hitting Monday.
