    It seems to me that Photomator itself does better if you apply the high resolution option (don't know if this option is available in Pixelmator). Either it looses less data due no noise reduction.. or just the upscaling itself plus the automatic noise reduction yields better results than just the auto noise reduction alone. Not the best long term solution, but better than the blotchy mess we currently get. It's kind of unfortunate because otherwise the software is my favourite. Lightroom cc is damn nearly unusable on laptop, kills battery like nothing, etc etc.

    • @martynas1
      @martynas1 Місяць тому

      Yeah, usability wise it's truly lovely for everyday quick adjustments but the more I dig in, the more I feel like I miss lots of definition out of photos when trying to extract best out of RAW. In less demanding shots, Pixelmator/Photomator is fine but I simply get more organic, consistent results in Lr/PS.

    There's an even easier way. Instead of adding an extra layer for the red, you can actually apply a color fill layer effect to the same layer where the threshold and Gaussian blur are, and this way, you can save the entire effect as 'hallation' and reuse it every time you want as a complete and single effect you can apply to any image.

    Hi, thanks for giving your thoughts - couple of things firstly the apple photos issue /should/ be fixed come November so you can open any file without photos like pixelmator pro, secondly wondering if you've used Affinity Photo 2 & if so how you feel this compares in both features/raw processing & price please?

    • @martynas1
      @martynas1 11 місяців тому

      Hi, you can open image in Photomator from any source - it is not required to upload to Photos first (same with Pixelmator), but hopefully pop up window will be resolved. As for Affinity, I have briefly tried Photo 2 and it could not be more different. It is more like Photoshop and is loaded with various tools that are similar in Photoshop. Raw engine approach looks more or less same as Luminar - it preserves details and doe not try to apply some sort of noise reduction. However, the whole editing approach is rather different. You won't have quick and convenient access to filters or quick adjustments. Learning curve is a lot higher and if you are on the go, Photomator is way better. Afiinity costs even less which is impressive considering package you get but I would rather have it as complementary software in case I need something more advanced (like panorama stiching, extended transformations or else) instead of one and only editing app. It's simply tries to do a lot rather than focusing on a single mission - quick and fun photo editing which Photomator excels at (most of the time).

  • @HudShot
    @HudShot Рік тому

    Great summary of using the app so far. Thanks. I'm looking at Photomator when I get my new camera because I'm not planning on doing a lot of post processing (not to begin with at least) and after playing with LR and Capture One, I felt they were too complicated and had a pretty steep learning curve. This app seems much simpler. That popup annoyance... is that due to it being 'linked' to Photos? Can you not open images from a folder without going via Photos?

    • @martynas1
      @martynas1 Рік тому

      Hey, thanks for watching. Yes, Photomator is connected with Photos as a primary album and from there you can make adjustments or revert it to original as well. Speaking of opening images - you absolutely can open any image straight from your memory card but that image will be added to photos gallery as well. So you don't have to import first photos to Photos.
