Hitting the road for a lap around Australia in our 2022 Jayco Expanda being towed by our 2022 Mitsubishi Triton called "Tina". Follow along as we work and travel our way around this amazing country.
Lightning Ridge's Underground Art || Finding Opals

This week we are in Lightning Ridge NSW. This place is knows for its amazing Black Opals. We spend time exploring the town and enjoying the wonderful Opal Street Cafe'.
The Chambers of the Black Hand was first on our list. An opal miner (who found no Opal) started carving sculptures in the mine which turned into an obsession and a business. There are over 800 sculptures he carved by hand with a butter knife and a fork. This is really a must see attraction in Lightning Ridge.
We stopped at the Walk in Mine to get some lucky dip opal bags for the boys and to re-create the photo we took 4 years ago when we were here. The boys loved going to Ratter Jail again. Jen got a lovely Opal ring and we headed back to the caravan so the boys could fossick through their lucky dip bags.
A stop at the John Murray gallery was also on the cards. I got some stickers for the ute and Jen got a painting (to be revealed later) and a pillow with John Murray's art on it. I also picked up a couple of pieces for some friends that I need to post.
So far we are having the best time in Lighting Ridge as always. It's one of our favourite stops in Outback NSW. We have one more video to put out of Lightning Ridge before our mad dash back to Bundaberg to sort out a few things and get ready to collect our new caravan!

Very happy to see the lions den up and running. We stayed in one the tents 2 year ago and dropped in on the 24/05/24 , it was a mess . You should have shown the water line on the outside wall . Scary stuff. Cheers
We ended up not filming a lot at the hotel and just enjoyed being there. Spent a ton of money on shirts, stickers and drinks and then had to get out of there as we ended up doing the Bloomfield in the dark. Loads of fun and will probably stop back in there on the way back from the cape.
Can you share where you got the front axle weights the only spec sheet i can find says 1260kg not 1360kg
I am not sure exactly - the guy weighing found it on one of the compliance plates on the ute
I found a spec sheet from Mitsubishi that lists 1360 for the GSR and GLS. As this was during huge wait times, parts shortages etc many of the utes specs were changed, options swapped (example aftermarket head units) - Although mine is a GLX+ the compliance plate says 1360kg apparently. I hope that helps...

Was the GVM upgrade a physical change - i.e. new shocks and springs - or was it an administrative change based on the engineer's inspection?
All the shocks and springs had already been done. Engineer did the inspection and went over all the parts used and then determined based on that - that it was sufficient for the upgrade.

Locky was so close to jumping on the bungy. Stood at the edge 3 times. They guys were not going to force him. Proud he even got that far for a 10 year old. Handled the swing like a champ though. Poor Archer though 😅
