Blue tits battles for a nest box - **Graphic**
Переглядів 223 місяці тому
One of the bird boxes proved to a little too popular - with a pair of blue tits started nest building - to be a war zone when another pair of birds wanting to take over. After 48 hours, there's not been any further nest building - it's a shame as it's been an empty box until May.

This is story that I made in 2009 about how the steel town of Consett has changed and adapted after its main employer, British Steel, was closed in 1980.

Life goes on
I have known Keith and Sue for years....didn't know they were actors 😊
My mam grew up in wood street
I live in consett, it was really enjoyable watching your look around.
Thank you for sharing. i was born in Shottley Bridge Hospital in 1969. My family are the Barretts. My nana lived on Oakdale road. i have cousins still living in the area as all my aunts and uncles have passed away. Most of them lived around Delves Lane.
Born in consett area in 1965,so many memories of the town,we moved away as my dad had a new job in Stanley.Been away from the north east for many years now and always visit consett when I’m in the area .well done on a great video.
very informative, we just moved to consett was interesting to see the place's history.
Despite it now being many years ago now I remember that bridge very well. My grandparents lived in Delves Lane (Percy Terrace, behind the old Black Diamond pub) and I remember as a bairn regularly walking up from the Delves to Consett & walking over the bridge. I remember the others in & around Consett & Leadgate too so it's great footage like this is out there to keep those memories alive.
I moved out of the town, and down to Lincolnshire in 2018, and soon appreciated just how many resources Consett actually has. Up until last year, my closest McDonald's, KFC or Subway where as 68 mile round trip. There's no Uber, you have to pay to park everywhere. The only supermarket is Morrisons and it's about the size of Iceland. Tesco or a normal size Morrisons are again 70 mile round trip. Yup, I do miss the old town.
On street level we seem to rarely appreciate or even acknowledge the changes, it's only via drone footage like this you can really see how much Consett has changed over the last 20 or so years. Still a great little town though, and great footage too Bill.
Be great to see some Blackhill history content. Keep up the good work 👏
When Britain was great
if the golden arches are gone that's a step in the right direction surely. A good fish and chip shop would be preferable.
Juggas
Billy, BTW is that big estate pub down Delves Lane still open, existing or gone the way of so many other pubs. Cheers
If you mean the Black Diamond, I think it's closed.
I MOVED HERE 2 YEARS AGO AND I LOVE THE PLACE AND ITS PEOPLE
Councils are to blame
My Dad was born in Blackhill in 1924. I just showed him your video and he loved it. Thanks for making the video and sharing it with the world (Canada, in our case).
I visited your UA-cam channel video quality and content very good. There is some problem on your channel, if you fix the problems of the channel, then your channel will grow organically. I have given some screenshots on your channel issues, you can see them.
Hopefully those closures are just temporary however it's still worrying to see. Its also worrying that some of the older municipal architecture in Consett, a lot of which is absolutely stunning, is also in quite a poor state of repair too. Another great little recording Billy, cheers for your content, and I agree - us folk from the area, we really are built of stronger stuff. Steel, Coal, Lead & maybe even crisps (those old enough to remember will know, those not will wonder what they missed!)
Great video Billy, please keep them coming!
You don't often hear of McDonalds branches closing.....
Looks like they're virtually rebuilding to total innards!
And a Spooners!!! whatever next.😮
Classic
@ 49secs.......The UK is slowly morphing into an Open Prison. Can you imagine the Council's reaction if you were to erect a dystopian camera on a pole like that on your property?
Very interesting and well presented! Good job….
Really enjoyed this, thanks for posting it up - I've just subscribed to your channel too & look forward to more Consett nostalgia. Always had a real soft spot for Consett & it's surrounding area, my Father was originally from the Delves (lived just behind the old Black Diamond) and my Mother was from Leadgate so I guess it's in my DNA. It does always surprises me there isn't more written history about Consett in light of its industrial heritage so recordings like yours are always great to dip into.
I will make more videos like this. This was a first attempt!
Very interesting Billy , keep up the good work
Nice one Billy ! Love the history , keep up the good work. Thanks 👍😊
There will be nowhere to go in Consett before long if things with these locations to get sorted out properly!
They are only getting renovated be open later in the year,.Im sure we can cope. Besides Greggs drivethrough be opening soon.
As a local lad I lived in Consett for nearly all my life until 2016 when my late grandmother in the February, I feel the town has gone downhill from 2016 until now and the best years for the town was the 1990s until 2016.
Same for most of the UK unfortunately, some much worse than others.
Oh happy memories I left Consett in the sixties for the midlands Consett is still home glad I found your Chanel
Thanks for that. I do have a number of movies about Consett, so hope you enjoy them.
So sad to see this
The closures are all temporary! 😸
Left Consett in the sixties but still call it home just came across your channel
Nice little video here. I've never visited this railway myself. But has been on the list for a while. Looks like a lovely day out. Don't they also call this railway 'The Battlefield Line'?
I've not heard it called that. Can't think of any battles around Stanley!
VOTE FOR THE REFORM PARTY FOR CHANGES AND HELP.
A great little railway one of my favourites. We have visited a couple of times when staying in the North East
You will Overcome 👍
Left in 1971, Still love it.❤
Started at the Foundry age 15.too young to be an apprentice, shovelling muck.learned to drive an Overhead Crane. Enjoyed it until I realised there was no future. Left and worked all over England. Never regret it ,but sorry for the workers who stayed. Never forget Consett.
Magnificent film.
An explanation of the different parts of this film would be good.
Fantastic video, Billy. I will add it to my list of things to do in Newcastle.
I enjoyed your video, very informative and made with sincerity. Great contribution from the older guy, nice to hear his memories. I’m a semi retired furnace engineer and metallurgist. I was 30 years old when the works closed. We used to supply industrial furnaces and ancillary equipments and did install plant at this works. So I’ve seen, like you, the decline of our heavy industrial base which continues to this day. Keep up the good work 🇬🇧
Left in the mid eighties when I was 18 to join the ARMY, ironically ended up living in Grantham, Lincs for 20yrs before I emigrated to The Republic of Ireland last year, they erected the statue of Thatcher, the one that was rejected by London, in Grantham town centre, the woman who changed the course of my life.
This has to be one of the best ‘Then & Now’ videos I have ever seen. Very well done for putting it together and thank you so much for sharing.
I can remember that old railway bridge that lead people and traffic into Delves Lane and I can’t believe it’s like 30 years ago since it was there! Plus I just turned 5 years old 3 days before when that was filmed, now nearly 37. 😟
My grandad had hes allotment near that bridge good to see
Excellent video and commentary👍
remember those days, really enjoyed my job as cranedriver.
Love this Jenni ❤
The music makes it sound a shit as the place looks
