For those interested look up Wendy Volhard’s Puppy Aptitude Test. It has been the gold standard of puppy testing for many years. It has excellent explanations of how to administer the test. And as others have said, testing rescue puppies who have lacked “normal” upbringing can change the test results. If in doubt, find a trainer who is familiar with the test to come with you. Also be aware that every breed has a little bit different result. A Lab will not test like a Chihuahua nor like a Husky
I know this is a very old video, but I appreciate it as I'm heading to a shelter in 2 days to view a litter of puppies. It is believed they are German Short-hair Pointer, Lab, and Shepherd mix, possibly retriever in there too. I'm going to be testing them out. I know that GSP can be insane (great dogs but on crack) and wouldn't make a good option. I am hoping that mixed with everything else it will be toned down. Also, you are so right, there are always exceptions to rules when it comes to breeds. When I was a kid, I had a shepherd/husky/wolf mix. He had zero prey drive, the only thing he ever snapped at was a bee I hadn't realised had flown into my hair. He didn't want to run, and refused to cross the street even unless I told him he could ahead of time. He absolutely loved having young children come up to him and practically maul him.
Oh my gosh, someone actually pulled a leg of one of the puppies. I don’t know if that was good. Their bones are still growing. Be careful.
Yes!
hell that's what I need cause I can't afford to pay 50k just for a service dog. My seizures can be really bad Ive fallen broken glasses scraped my arms legs face. I haven't worked for 13 years now which sucks I can't even do what I like to do anymore. I have a neuropace device on my right side of my brain and no left memory cell since that cell cannot be used anymore. I was diagnosed with viral encephalitis which almost killed me and I was in a coma for 2 1/2 months. I had to re-learn how to walk talk read write all over again.
Thank You Alecen for sharing your story. I can relate to some of the things you shared and your furry BFF is gonna bless your life is so many wonderful ways. So happy for the both of you.
This is beautiful-congratulations! Wonderful work, Medical Mutts! 🩵🐾
Big Dogs Rule.
Dogs are incredible
Dogs are amazing and I love when organizations can use rescues. Are the dogs able to help prevent seizures by alerting before they happen and then clients able to take medicine to help decrease them?
It's about time! Folks with DID often have to train their service animals themselves, and many are unable to do that. Dogs can tell when someone is dissociating and having a panic reaction, etc. it's absolutely a clear fit. Even as a pet sitter, the animals can tell when we switch…and who is fronting, even down to knowing who in here will give them extra treats, cuddles, play, or who they can bamboozle. 😂
You are placing dogs with folks who have DID, now? Awesome
Thank u have a great day 😊
Thanks u so very much that made me feel so much better
Ok so I am owner training my service dog and there is no ID or letter for Service dogs
Always ask before you pet any dog not just service dogs don't just walk up an touch things that don't belong to you.😅
I hope he does realize that prong collars and e collars are not physically harmful whosoever, and not harmful in any way when used properly, and are amazing tools, however his dog seems to be doing great with what has been done,
Is that a kangal mix?? If not what breed??
Where are yall located at my name is Jody Hall im a diabetic i also have Ptsd anxiety congenital heart disease autism
Where are y'all located at
I like how this video shows service dogs are not “robots”. This helped calm my nerves. Thank you!
What are those 30 things? My pup needs a refresher well me too and the organization’s here just aren’t up to par. I don’t want to give them more money for nothing. He was originally trained at Alabama Dog Academy but we had to move to Georgia and I think the place I went was just taking folks money or I dunno. I’m disabled and have a lot of issues. The one that I fail at most is understanding what people are saying and I just look confused. I have M.E. That causes the most problems. I get lost and confused too. But enough about me, is there a way that you can help me?
First! I love my board and train dog from Medical Mutts. He has truly changed my life and moved me closer to my dreams.
I agree people need to learn the right way to use these tools. My dog is keeping my brain working and improvement of my balance, after TBIs
Pushing on his back legs like that will give him Hip dysplasia
There needs to be better laws cuz when they ain't trined to ADA standards they yell well its a service dog in training. Service dogs are NOT the only animals allowed in public places, many places welcome ESD and many ESD go where the public is.
Emotional support animals are not covered under federal law service. Dogs are.
My dog is a service dog in training :D this video is very helpful:D
I have an alert dog and he knows 30-45 mins before my Dexcom
How is it that you people never heard of hypoxia those masks don't work. It's hard to watch when people cant break the brain washing
This is the only video I found that showed how to choose an adult shelter dog so clearly. Thank you!
Thanks. We are in search of a pup. We were with one at the humane society today. He would be a good family dog. But failed a few of these.
Absolutely love the monster treat bag, such impressive doggos!!!
Let's just cut to the bottom line... The FAKE SERVICE DOG situation is completely out of control.
My 9 year old daughter just started having seizures at the beginning of May. We adopted a 6 month old Aussie yesterday. Is there any resources you could recommend for us?
Chloe’s doing a great job! ❤
Is there a checklist for the ADA standards?
Good job both ❤
Way to go, Skipper you deserve T Bone steak.
😂 funny 😅
So emotional to see all the happiness. I sure remember meeting my Medical Mutts Moonie almost 2 years ago. What a gift! Thank you to all the fantastic staff at Medical Mutts for all you did for Moonie and I. ❤❤❤
It’s great to see an American service dog organisation that doesn’t have dogs in prongs or using aversive tools
This dog looks like it may have border collie bloodlines
Do you guys do apprenticeships? I'm curious about this!!
This is making me cry! 😭 I need this, I need a service animal to help with my autism. I know that it would be hard work and I am willing. It is hard to have to wait for the right time.
My dog has started barking more often lately, it is a single bark (unless provoked) but it is very loud. How do I stop this behavior?
not enough detail about what you are looking for in terms of response, and what success and fail look like.
Man, these dogs certainly perform better on the bowl drop test that I would, that's for sure.
Usually puppies don't get as scared as adults dogs since they are more outgoing. This is why the puppy phase should be filled with desensitizing. There should be lots of weird objects like wobble boards that move, boxes that they can stand on or climb inside of, skateboards, weird surfaces, inflatable dog training mat things that they can step on, uneven surfaces, people of all ages, loud noises like dropping a metal bowl or shaking a container full of nails and bolts, the TV should play various things 24/7 including: sirens, loud thunder and rain, fireworks, dogs barking, people yelling, the metal pipe sound effect, animal noises, videos of dogs, cats, birds, squirrels and other animals, guns shooting, loud cars and motorcycles, bike riding and other things so they won't get scared or aggressive towards sounds or animals when they get older. I bought 3 types of wobble boards to use with my next service dog prospect. I've also found that my current service dog is afraid of the big orange carts at home depot, so I trained him to stand on them and do various things on top of them, he isn't scared anymore and he loves standing on them now! He is also afraid of sewer covers, so every time we walk, I make him go over them 3 or 4 times. He is still a bit afraid of them which is understandable (I'm scared of them too) but he will willingly walk over them now instead of stopping and looking at me with a sad face.
So..anybody can claim they have a certified dog? What about if they snap for some reason?
No person should have to listen to a dog's incessant barking- service dog are not. Almost all these so-called service dogs are not service dogs at all.
Key word "incessant" it's very very rare that a service dog should bark during a mistake, and they really should bark no more than 1 or 2 low barks, and should he quickly corrected for doing so, a constant bark should only be exhibited by a service dog if it's trained to do so, usually it's to alert people around that the handler is unconscious, or injured,
i mean they can also bark if it is a part of a task
