Dive #273 Precise location will not be divulged. Appreciate your understanding when I do not reply to questions about exact location. Treat it like a treasure hunt, it’s not that hard to find for those who really want to go

Ah yes, now this is it right here
still scuba pooning I see..
Time to sharpen that spear! Shooting fish in a barrel and you still can't nail them lol. Cool video nonetheless!
Nice footage and catch! I didn’t think anyone would be out diving because the swell reports have been looking pretty high and I’ve been hearing visibility has been poor. Looks pretty good in your video though! XD I used the same exact song & style for my own dive vid in Monterey. The moment I started playing I was like this is so familiar ua-cam.com/video/kvH1Oq4zvf8/v-deo.htmlsi=4hccKVcgAYSlmjcD
I scoped that place out, but was deterred by the no diving signs. Is that just for scubers?
Dang! The dive shop sold that guy their entire inventory.
Loved the video I wanted to ask how do you know when is best to go out on a free dive at Monterey
very cool
No original is good
nice viz. Camera is so clear. What are you using?
Did I ask?
Nigga
Better you add music
Happy New Year!
If you got any pics you should post them to iNaturalist.org to help document the reef life. Here are some of my observations from June: www.inaturalist.org/observations?nelat=26.18990052188708&nelng=-80.07997908163816&order_by=votes&place_id=any&subview=grid&swlat=26.184605346533026&swlng=-80.09445228148252&user_id=joemdo&verifiable=any
every time I go spearfishing there they (the person by the stand at the golf course) always give me shit for parking by the pier they always tell me to drive away. when they ask you where you're heading what do you say?
That I am there to collect all the their horrible shots that end up in the water.
first
2:15 why didn't you just shoot it instead of waiting for it to swim away
yes, legal at the time of the video. you should always confirm with dfg and not take anyone's word alone though
Hey K loomis, do you know if it is legal to hunt there? I'm curious for myself, I've always known that spot as soberanes canyon!
Looks like a worn-down flat abalone, Haliotis walallensis, at 5:18.
Awesome!
Great footage! Some of your best yet. Need to come up north and do some cold water diving ;)
Wow, this bull lions dont mess around. Was the mola mola still alive though? Because i heard the lions like to keep them alive, or atleast do, because they only eat the fins.
Nice. "Mining by Moonlight" Midnight. Moonlight. What's the difference when diving in such splendidly cloudless sunshine :-).
Very nice. Is this an above averagae day out there? Doing my first NorCal dive in Monterey soon...
Nice footage. What temps at depth are you getting this time of year?
I like your snooping up on it. How did you know there was a fish snagged down there? Were you the one fishing?
@1973krl thanks for the information and i dive at the sea ranch and i believe you can spearfish them there
pretty cool, you must have been cold. too bad you didnt have a mag light
@NextGeneration219 , I don't believe there is a min size for these perch and think there is either no limit or a limit of 10. You'll have to consult DFG regulations to be sure. Pls note that the location this was taken at, San Carlos Beach, Monterey is restricted to hook and line fishing only, NO SPEARFISHING is permited
do you know the size limit for them and how many you can take?
Wow! Very cool. He came in so close!
Megasurcula stearnsiana Heterocrypta occidentalis Armina californica Yes those are all matches! thanks Humboldt Mike!
I'm not 100% sure on these, but the snail looks like Megasurcula stearnsiana of the family Turridae -- the crab looks like the Californai elbow crab, Heterocrypta occidentalis -- and the sea slug looks like the nudibranch Armina californica. Cool video. Hopefully you can verify my guesses.
I saw the footage of her in your other video and wondered what type of eel she is. The face screams wolf eel but the coloration and spots are so different then I'm used to. Great capture!
Excellent Footage! Thx for sharing!
FrankPro1, Started dive in just 10fsw, max depth was 64fsw and that is where the hydrocoral was shot, water was approx 47F and I was diving wet (burrrrr, must keep kicking to stay warm!)
Nice Footage! Depth? Temp? Drysuit or Wetsuit?
DaDiver168, Used a Bonica HDDV and housing, shot in 720p 60fps, natural light with a wide-angle lens. It's a decent set-up. Best value for the $ IMO, I just wish it had better autofocus and white balance. Video files were spliced together using Quicktime Pro
NICE, it's clear & sharp pictures, haven't scuba dive in years, especially Monastery beach w/ along w/ the Monastery roll, lol. What kind of camera or video are you using? With a underwater case. I use a my olympus 1030 for free diving, but it would freeze on me & had to send it in 4Xs.
Looks like a great dive! I love the shot facing upwards towards the kelp and school of rockfish.
Mola Mola, Lingcod, Sea Lions, Schools of Rockfish.... All off a breakwater! I need to move up north :)
shot at San Carlos beach, Monterey Ca
@Frankpro1 Doh! Just did a google search :) Turns out Sculpins have a pretty diverse size range depending on where there found.
Very cool coloration on that guy. That looks pretty big to be a Sculpin , but then again I'm only familiar with So Cal Sculpins. Where was this shot at?
Superb, thank you
I love that you didn't move much when the GSB was close. They will come very close and inspect you if you allow it, but most divers inadvertantly chase them away by kicking.
Great Footage! Thanks for sharing.
nicely done!
school of maurading surgeonfish!
